    Poor pigies :( Was it really necessary? Tap water dries their skin. Water may be cold for them hence they can catch cold. Or it may be too hot. Wash pigies only when they have some problems. Pigies clear themselves a lot. Washing is NOT necessary.

      Hi there! I agree that guinea pigs should not have routine baths. However, my girls are 5+ years old and both suffer from arthritis and can't clean themselves properly, so sometimes it is necessary. I bathe them less than once per year. They take supplements for their skin (including a well-rounded diet of fresh produce), I use a skin-sensitive shampoo made specially for guinea pigs, and I always monitor for itching/biting in the days following their bath. Also, the water was warm and I dried them both completely before putting them back into a freshly-cleaned enclosure. :)
