This is actually a great way to assist someone having a panic attack. Just a small piece of advice, slow your hand movements every so often so the person knows to slow their breathing down. Help them to lengthen their exhale as much as possible.

I suffer with agoraphobia, it’s a very complex panic disorder. When the panic reaches its highest level all I want is for someone to hold my hand and remind me to take deep breath’s in through my nose and exhale out my mouth. When panic sets in we lose concentration and become very irrational because of it! People need to understand that for us who suffer, we just need some compassion, reassurance, and support. We can literally become suicidal to end the suffering! I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy, it’s literally hell on earth! 😔

I think it is good that anxiety/panic attacks are to be part of first aid training however, as someone who suffers to the point of debilitation, it would be helpful to show something like the following:
First aider directing the panicking person to make eye contact if comfortable doing so and then using the hands up and down but a much slower pace than in this video. Also, breathing in through the nose for 6 seconds, holding for 2 and the slowly breathing out for 8 seconds. This will help the panicked person to regulated their breathing much better. Grounding and well as focusing attention on the 5 senses once breathing starts to calm is also a helpful tool.

I like this new education iniative. It's important for people to be educated about mental health issues and know how to help in situations like this.

This video vastly under showed panic attacks. They don't just end as quickly as it showed here and it is significantly harder to breath like that during one and can actually make it worse and last longer. I get at least one a day and they suck.

Using a line like "everything is going to be alright" is dishonest.
You can't guarantee this and loose trust from the patient.
Be caring , and compassionate but be honest for your own health and safety and
for the health of the patient.

Some people do. Or others don't. It's just an example. It's pretty accurate based on the ones I have witnessed.

At least for me this really understated how to calm down from one. They get really bad.

Showing them to breath is good, asking them to "just breath" is not. Don't touch them, most ppl having one doesn't like to be touched.
