- Une jeune fillette: an anonymous French song about a young girl who is forced to become a nun.
Eleanor Cramer: soprano
Christopher Goodwin: lute
Alison Kinder: bass viol
Tamsin Lewis: renaissance violin
This tune was very popular throughout Europe in the 16th and 17th Centuries, and was used as a ballad melody, as a dance, and as a theme for divisions and fantasias. It can be found with many titles including:
La Monica; Une jeune pucelle; Deutscher Tanz; Almagne; Almande nonette, Balletto alta morona; Balletto celeste Giglio; Aria Venetia che cantava Scappin; The Lutheran hymn 'Von Gott will ich nicht lassen'; and, in England, The Queen’s Almaine.
