That sucks. It's fair use, so that should not be happening. Also, how come they take only part 2 down? Man. Any chance you can reupload it or will it just result in the same thing? Also, pleeeeeease react to Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Rós.
You might be on the safer side if you listen through speakers again instead of headphones, since it isn't direct feed audio then. Just a guess, but could be.
craziest thing about Kid A is it hasn't aged at all. It still feels fresh and new, despite being nearly two decades old. The production by Godrich is fantastic
Same as zeppelin and floyd, Radiohead are able to make music that sounds timeless and can still be enjoyed decades on while maintaining freshness. One of the greats for sure
Please don't skip to In Rainbows or whatnot, go to Amnesiac next, then HTTT and then In Rainbows, etc... The albums make way more sense in their chronological order.
How to Disappear Completely is my favorite Radiohead song... gives me goosebumps every time. If you liked the studio version, there's a really good live version on YT if you just look the song up.
While synthesizers are common on this record, you’d be amazed at how much of what you’ve heard here was guitar. Ed O’Brien did some phenomenal effects work on this record, and Treefingers and How To Disappear Completely are superlative examples of it.
Yeah ,he should do In Rainbows next, or The Bends in case he hasn't listened to it, if he hasn't the best thing woulf have been going from the Bends on cause that way you experience it better, you listen to how their music has changed and evolved over time, if you compare The Bends to Kid A you wouldn't think they are the same band
Probably my second favorite of theirs. It's such a beautiful album that sounds so pure. Almost like you're listening to them play directly in front of you. Check out their In Rainbows from the Basement. Should find it easily on TH-cam.

I HIGHLY recommend checking out Björk (if you aren't already familiar with her work). She and Thom Yorke have worked together a couple of times and Thom says that her song Unravel is his fav song EVER (he's even covered it with Radiohead live). I'd recommend the Björk album Homogenic (which has Unravel on it). Love your music and reactions btw ❤❤❤
I listen to “How to Disappear Completely” every single night before I go to sleep, just put my headphones on staring at the ceiling in the dark, then I listen to “Pyramid Song” if I’m in the mood
Same but with Treefingers, Codex, Daydreaming, and, near the end of the playlist to knock me out if I’m still awake, How to Disappear Completely. If I’m still somehow awake I have How to Disappear into Strings. If I’m STILL somehow awake, I finally have Motion Picture Soundtrack.
The track Kid A is my current favorite! There something about the melody subtly hiding behind that weird robotic effect on his voice. The lyrics make me feel like I’m having this peaceful sleep paralysis in a way haha first time I heard it I immediately thought “MINECRAFT” but I’m glad I don’t hear that element anymore lol

Awesome reaction. I love how you pay close attention to the intricacies of the albums you review. Also you don't feel the need to fill every second of screentime with chatter. You take time to fully absorb the art. That's how a reaction is supposed to be. Keep em coming!
You get major points for loving How to Disappear so much. The 'weird synth' in the first part is strings playing a complex part that Jonny composed on his Ondes Martinot and then wrote out on a score, which was received with giggles by the musicians and conductor when they were presented with an 'impossible' piece! Also, Treefingers isn't a synth. It's Ed strumming some complex chords in key of F# (F# 6/9, E6, Badd9, C#add9, E6, F# 6/9, E#7sus4, F#add9,...) on his Rickenbacker 12 string and Thom took the recording and did some heavy processing in ProTools to get the final sound, then they added some bits and bobs to get the final piece. Also, on National Anthem, that's Thom on bass not Colin. Apparently they (Thom and Jonny) were having trouble getting the horn players to sound cacophonous enough so Thom told them to try to sound like a traffic jam and was wildly conducting them in how to do so. Also, Jonny used his Ondes Martinot, an early electronic instrument that sounds a bit like a theramin, on National Anthem, How to Disappear and other songs. OK, enough for now. Thanks! Peace from SF
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS RIGHT AFTER YOUR OK COMPUTER VIDEO YESSSS. Glad you did this, 10/10 piece of art and I'd probably admit I might like it more than OK Computer.
So glad you're doing Kid A! This album is really something else - an experience like no other. Just recently got into Radiohead, and so far (listened up to Amnesiac) Kid A might be my favourite, topping even OK Computer, which was already mindblowing the first time I heard it. The complex songwriting and the ethereal soundscape create something truly unforgettable. This album proved one thing to me - Radiohead is a band that is not a one-trick pony (as if that wasn't the case before), and is capable of going a different direction and pulling it off beautifully. Personally, Treefingers, Optimistic and Motion Picture Soundtrack are my favourites. How To Disappear Completely and Morning Bell are definitely up there too. Also, if you find the time, definitely make sure to check out MrMcTidge's analysis of the album - it opened up aspects I never noticed before.
RadioFloyd235 None I'm going chronologically, so I'll most definitely get to In Rainbows in due time. Super excited for that one. As of right now, Hail To The Thief is next. I find listening to an artist evolving and noticing the differences in their works over time very interesting. That's just me though.
Your assessment of the album concept and observation of the "crying robot baby" are totally on point. Kid A suggests there's a Kid B somewhere and that machines or computers have taken over and incorporated us into their agenda.
"..I flow down the liffey.." The liffey is a river in Dublin, Ireland. I saw them in the 3 arena, Dublin a few years ago, it's a venue right on the Liffey and when Thom sang it the crowd went nuts, it was amazing!!!
i agree with you completely on how to disappear completely. it's also generally considered a fan favorite and one of their very best, so you're definitely not alone. honestly it's hard for me to listen to because whenever i do, i'm nearly brought to tears at the very least, if not full-on crying. i'm also glad you really liked treefingers. it's a really gorgeous ambient piece but i feel like a lot of fans consider it kind of an "interude" and don't really appreciate it. also fun fact, it's not synth on that song, but actually super slowed-down guitar. kid a is another one of my favorite tracks, and though you said it's your least favorite so far, it's one that i feel grows on you a lot. at first when i listened to it i just thought it was "weird but cool," but gradually i started to really love that lullaby-like progression, the beautiful vocal melodies that are obscured by the effects on his voice (standing in the shadows at the end of my bed...), and that incredible ethereal synth pad that comes in near the end. it's a song that i feel really transports me to another world, which i say in as much of a genuine and non-cliche way as i'm capable of.
Great review! Can’t wait to see what u think of the second half! Some other alt classics I would recommend, if you haven’t heard them, would be In Rainbows - Radiohead Remain in Light - Talking Heads Merriweather Post Pavilion - Animal Collective In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel Funeral - Arcade Fire The Moon and Antarctica - Modest Mouse
Also this is an album you need to listen to for multiples times before it gets inside your head. I listened to it from beggining to end 4 or 5 times and then it finally clicked and now I love every song in it (except maybe Kid A)
I never disliked it, but I think the reason I didn't fully get along with it in the beggining is because I also shifted from OK Computer to Kid A, which can be tough
Oh you guys are talking about the song, my bad there. Yeah, the song, I don't know, I'm not a big fan of the effects he uses on the vocals and the melody. It's still a pretty good song tho.
The atmosphere of this album really does make me feel like I’m on another planet. The emotion of How to Disappear, the chilling ambience of In Limbo and the chaos of The National Anthem just gripped me. Can’t say I loved it on first listen, but it was so intriguing I couldn’t wait to hear it again and pick out more little details I missed. And hey now it’s my favourite album.
everyone feels this way the first time they listen to this album. Then they listen again. And around the 4th or 5th listen you "get it" and it becomes one of your favorites.
Fun fact: "Treefingers" is actually all guitar. Thom recorded Ed playing chords and playing with pedals before processing it and slowing it down on his laptop. Kid A actually contains guitar on all but the first two tracks and the closer, but they're used primarily for texture outside of a few tracks. Radiohead re-learned their instruments from the inside out for this LP, and a lot of the inspiration and influence behind that was from electronic music of the time, plus krautrock from the 70s and the work of Charles Mingus. If you want to explore the influences behind this album more, dig into Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works, Can's Ege Bamyasi, and DJ Shadow's Endtroducing.
This was so obviously a classic to me, from the first time I heard it. It's 22 years later and that's turned out to be true. I even think enough time has passed to compare Radiohead with older, classic bands and confidently judge Radiohead to be better than a lot of them.
I'm very happy that you enjoyed Treefingers! Not everybody gets it! Just as you said, it is an experience and works very well as a bridge in the middle of the album.
The first 4 tracks are fucking fantastic. I always pictured the piece "Kid A" to be the background music of a human clone farm as the chemicals are moved by robot hands and the fluids are pumped into the gestating artificial wombs and we see the cellular structures dividing and such. It was very vivid in my head. Also, How to Disappear was written about Thom Yorke's misery while doing the OK Computer tour. He was told by REM's frontman Michael Stipe to just tell himself "I am not here, this isn't happening, in a little while I'll be gone".
When they play "National Anthem" live, they actually use the sound of a radio tuned to random stations, with a lot of delays and weird effects. It's pretty bonkers.
I used the same technique once, tune into radio 4 (solely classical music, mainly piano and violin) and used my guitar pedalboard to pitch it down and mess with the pitch as it plays, add delays and reverb and boom : horror game soundtrack!
@@signey.8040 Use an aux cable and a converter to turn the cable into the right size so you can put it in the guitar input jack on the pedalboard pretty much
I'm quite impressed by how you noticed How To Disappear Completely being close to OK Computer, since it's a song inspired by their tour of OK computer and how nerve wracking it was... (I forgot the exact story, but pretty much)
It's truly one of the ballsiest albums ever produced.. up there with The Beatles Revolver. But with Radiohead.. it was even more ballsier because of their previous album Ok Computer. All the success that came out of that album and for them to do a complete 180 on Kid A, it completely shook Alternative to its core. The best album of the 2000s, with out a doubt.... it's and album that will be debated and analyzed for generations to come. The 2 songs that get under my skin the most are National Anthem and Idioteque. I can't seem to solve it. Lol
Quote from WikiPedia: When asked in 2001 by MTV, "How do you guys feel about the fact that bands like Travis, Coldplay, and Muse are making a career sounding exactly like your records did in 1997?", Yorke replied: "Good luck with Kid A."
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a backstory to kid a. I think it is meant to be the first sentient robot waking up to a strange world and being all afraid. pretty cool story
I know I'm late and I'm more into art(history of art) so it's best for something experimental to have been fresh for someone or first experience so don't worry about genre
your channel is incredible. i love how much you grew musically since your first videos and the freshness you have in your reviews. also PLEASE don't skip in rainbows¡!
Dude you perfectly described How To Dissapaer Completely! The floating through the sky thing! Did you watch the Kid A blips because that's what happens!
I think it would be a great reaction vid, many Radiohead fans know about the "blips" See, there were no single releases from Kid A to promote it. So instead the band took snippets of each song and visualized them. Some more graphic than others. each one of these short little clips were called blips and aired on cable TV in between programs back in 2000 and 2001. They promoted both Kid A and Amnesiac. But they would be a fantastic topic for you to react to as some of them are VERY ahead of their time and some are just flat out WIERD! So just think about that doing that one at least.
Easily my favourite Radiohead album, and surprisingly it was my first. I showed Everything In It's Right Place to a couple of my friends in school, and they thought it wasn't very good (they prefered the Fall Out Boy, Ghostbusters remix.....) but I love this album so much. It's a weird but nice feeling when you like an experimental album and everyone else doesn't. Even if they think Despacito is better.........
Thom has said How to Disappear Completely is the most beautiful song he has ever written. Radiohead will really grow on you and you will change your opinions often. You will hear new things every time you listen. Wait until you eventually decide to pay attention to the lyrics (you made the right choice going in just for the music on your first pass). Lyrics will take you to a whole new level. I’m glad to see you enjoying them.
Heh. Your face @ the brass of The National Anthem is how we felt when this album dropped way back then. Completely out of nowhere. Nothing like it. Not even from Radiohead. Even Radiohead fans had no clue. I was stunned for weeks after it dropped and then double stunned when they dropped Amnesiac out of the blue. Was a great time to be a RH and a music fan.
If you haven’t listened to Grace by Jeff Buckley yet, it’s beautiful. He’s my favorite singer, and his sound is so timeless and unique, it could’ve come out yesterday. It’s been imitated, but never replicated.
When I was a younger man, I bought and listened to this album for the first time on headphones when it was released. My jaw hit the floor.. It was one of those rare musical experiences that people don't have so much anymore.. I cherish that feeling, and will never forget it.
That's not a trumpet. That sound is an ondes martenot. I did not know that instrument until I heard this song and it's an amazing sound. How to disapper completely is my favourite Radiohead song of all the time by far. Many of the Kid A songs got elements and textures you can't catch the first time you play this album and you need to listen to every one and only without distractions. What I love from Kid A is the fact you love it or you hate it. Second part of the album is more popular than the first one to the fans but for me this is the greatest masterpiece of the band. Their best work and it's almost impossible they make an album like this again.
So glad you're doing Kid A! For something new, maybe try Nothing but Thieves They're very influenced by Radiohead and Muse Also, How to disappear completely is definitely a fav! And Treefingers is actually all Guitar and Effects
To appreciate them I really think you need to see what they do with tracks live. The live performances following Kid A/Amnesiac were some of their best and led to Hail to the thief being such a great album....and eventually to In Rainbows. You need to listen to In Rainbows: Live from the basement.....the culmination of them growing as a band through the 00s
Kid A is *the* polarizing album of Radiohead's entire discography. My older sister who was around for it, describes it as what separated the Radiohead fans between OKC and Kid A. At the time there were sides on which was the true masterpiece. Even I have to admit it took me a pretty long while to get Kid A since I'm not really into electronics.
Rustle The Musical Gorilla. Yes !, my favorite album of all time but i think he’ll sleep past sæglópur because of the pace after it. Still would love it ❤️
In an interview (available in youtube as (2006/10/21) BBC 2, The Culture Show) -- Thom was asked which song he would like Radiohead to be remembered by... With out hesitation he replied "How to Disappear Completely." The interviewer asked "Why?". Thom replied "Cause it's the most beautiful piece we've ever done, at least I think so..." .. indeed
I don’t know if you were already planning to do this at some point, but I really would love to see you react to Hail To The Thief. It’s such an underrated point in their discography
You should do a reaction for Funeral by Arcade Fire or Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem, This is Happening by them is super good too, keep up the great content
I know you said you want to listen to different artists but I would absolutely love to see you react to more Radiohead albums specifically Hail To The Thief, In Rainbows, and A Moon Shaped Pool. I would like to see you react to all of them in order bc I feel like you'd find something to enjoy out of all of their albums but I could see you enjoying those the most. Just keep up the good work. I'm loving the reaction vids.
For anybody that is wondering, yes part 2 got taken down manually for copyright :/
That sucks. It's fair use, so that should not be happening. Also, how come they take only part 2 down? Man. Any chance you can reupload it or will it just result in the same thing? Also, pleeeeeease react to Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Rós.
I don't think I can because they manually went in to take it down. No idea why they didn't do part 1 as well.
Will you still do In Rainbows????
You should do The Flaming Lips' "Yoshime Battles the Pink Robot"! AMAZING album!
You might be on the safer side if you listen through speakers again instead of headphones, since it isn't direct feed audio then. Just a guess, but could be.
"The National Anthem has some Jazz in it"

craziest thing about Kid A is it hasn't aged at all. It still feels fresh and new, despite being nearly two decades old. The production by Godrich is fantastic
Joseph Wright you should listen to Aphex Twins, as well, they took inspirations from him.
No Thanks Computer oh I have. One of my fave producers ever
Joseph Wright he really is incredible.
It reminds me of orchestral composition...that's the depth of it.
Same as zeppelin and floyd, Radiohead are able to make music that sounds timeless and can still be enjoyed decades on while maintaining freshness. One of the greats for sure
1 second in - “Ok I already love it”
SAME
That's what Radiohead does to you
How to disappear completely is just other-worldly
Can you feel that almost crying tone in his voice?
I've read that Thom says it's his favorite RH song!
that sound you hear is an ondes martenot
Favorite song ever
It's transcendental. Definitely my favourite track on Kid A.

Songs in TKOL are very good, but their rendition in the album version is bad. He should check the live versions if possible.
Amnesiac is my favorite of all the albums, he definitely should listen to it it's amazing

Great review! Can’t wait to see what u think of the second half! Some other alt classics I would recommend, if you haven’t heard them, would be
In Rainbows - Radiohead
Remain in Light - Talking Heads
Merriweather Post Pavilion - Animal Collective
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
Funeral - Arcade Fire
The Moon and Antarctica - Modest Mouse
Remain in Light, surely one of the very best 80’s Album
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in Space
I remember when I was obsessed with Muse, then I found Radiohead and my life was never the same
Both great though. Radiohead is just 10 times as great.
Also this is an album you need to listen to for multiples times before it gets inside your head. I listened to it from beggining to end 4 or 5 times and then it finally clicked and now I love every song in it (except maybe Kid A)
Those were my thoughts exactly, I'd have to spend a bit more time with it
For real? Kid A? I never could understood why people dislike Kid A. It became one of my favs instantly.
I never disliked it, but I think the reason I didn't fully get along with it in the beggining is because I also shifted from OK Computer to Kid A, which can be tough
Same here. After another 10 listens, i now love Kid A. Hated the song previously.
I loved this. The way you described How to disappear completely was so intense. I hope In Rainbows for the next reaction!
everyone feels this way the first time they listen to this album. Then they listen again. And around the 4th or 5th listen you "get it" and it becomes one of your favorites.
I really appreciate the authenticity in this reaction. Definitely subscribing
I agree with you exactly on what you said about how to disappear completely
"oh i get it, Kid A, like a kid"
I'm sorry, what
Heresy. Everything in its right place is otherworldly brilliant. That outro could go on for hours. Pure goosebumps.
I’m excited for part two :-)
This was so obviously a classic to me, from the first time I heard it.
@@jacvic0790 how do you get the radio into the pedalboard i wanna recreate the thing
@@signey.8040 Use an aux cable and a converter to turn the cable into the right size so you can put it in the guitar input jack on the pedalboard pretty much
@@jacvic0790 thanks brother
You gotta listen to my favourite Radiohead album, which is "In Rainbow" ! Such a wonderful mix of brilliant songs.
I'm quite impressed by how you noticed How To Disappear Completely being close to OK Computer, since it's a song inspired by their tour of OK computer and how nerve wracking it was... (I forgot the exact story, but pretty much)
You should also try to get around In Rainbows, that one is an essential
Definitely will, but it'll be after I try something else first!
In Utero by Nirvana is one of their best work! You wont regret listening. (Preferrably reading the lyrics as well)
bleach is better
*Their best work
In Utero is probably their best. Althought I love the bass tone in Nevermind.
In Utero is amazing (in a very dark way), it's like a look into Cobain's mind less than a year before he killed himself :/
Such a great album, they got Steve Albini to produce it, that’s like a big “fuck you” to mainstream music
Amazing review! So happy that you’re doing this!
Yesssss! Been waiting for this one, thank you
Love this series man, really excited for part 2 & Like Clockwork
It's truly one of the ballsiest albums ever produced.. up there with The Beatles Revolver. But with Radiohead.. it was even more ballsier because of their previous album Ok Computer. All the success that came out of that album and for them to do a complete 180 on Kid A, it completely shook Alternative to its core. The best album of the 2000s, with out a doubt.... it's and album that will be debated and analyzed for generations to come. The 2 songs that get under my skin the most are National Anthem and Idioteque. I can't seem to solve it. Lol
DrewDawg94 I agree but there's way more experimental albums imo
Quote from WikiPedia: When asked in 2001 by MTV, "How do you guys feel about the fact that bands like Travis, Coldplay, and Muse are making a career sounding exactly like your records did in 1997?", Yorke replied: "Good luck with Kid A."
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's a backstory to kid a. I think it is meant to be the first sentient robot waking up to a strange world and being all afraid. pretty cool story
My opinion on How to Disappear Completely has not yet changed. Most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.
"that was like an experience!" -- sums up how I feel about all RH's music ; ) Loving your analyses of these albums.
"but u can't process it all in the first listen" that defines the entire album
Dude you perfectly described How To Dissapaer Completely! The floating through the sky thing! Did you watch the Kid A blips because that's what happens!
I haven't seen any videos yet :)
DO BJÖRK WHEN YOURE DONE WITH RADIOHEAD
Definitely!!!!!
I'd have to agree that how to disappear completely is in my opinion the best song on the album that or motion picture soundtrack, but that comes later
The goosebumps on How to disappear completely... I never recovered yet
So glad you're doing Kid A!
For something new, maybe try Nothing but Thieves
They're very influenced by Radiohead and Muse
Also, How to disappear completely is definitely a fav! And Treefingers is actually all Guitar and Effects
I've already listened to broken machine and made a video about it, haven't heard self-titled tho
Nothing But Thieves is my new favourite band!
Just checked the vid, great song! The first album has a more consistent sound to it, but as such has less experimentation than Broken Machine
My mood during The National Anthem: :)
My mood during HTDC: :')
The national anthem feels like I’m watching a car accident
I think thom said that he wanted the horns to sound like a “traffic jam” or something like that
"I listen to music of every genre"
𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝘼𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣
Crying Robot Baby! That's a really keen observation. Definitely gonna use that in conversation.
"I don't want to talk while the song is playing" after he talks every transition.
I can't tell you how much I love How to Disappear Completely. Infact I've asked for it to be played at my funeral.
Please react to Sigur Ros - Agaeis Byrjun album
Lust for Awesomeness Yess
That and ( )
And Takk? Am I alone?
Rustle The Musical Gorilla. Yes !, my favorite album of all time but i think he’ll sleep past sæglópur because of the pace after it.
Still would love it ❤️
IHaveNo IdeaWhatI'mDoing I agree, the album’s a bit top heavy, but overall beautiful and worth every second.
Anthony Morales Yes! Funeral is what made me love music ... and Ok Computer
First time I heard it, I thought it was shit, fast forward a year it's my favourite album of all time
How to disappear completely is the best work of radiohead for me. It stands out very strong, the way radiohead building tention is perfect
I'm as diehard a Radiohead fan as any, and how to disappear completely is my favorite Radiohead song, you are not alone at all
So lovely to see someone being moved by this masterpiece. Kid A is amongst the very best records of all time. 😁
2 down, 7 to go. I haven't even watched the video yet but I know this gonna be great. Love your reactions man
Please listen to In Rainbows before you end this series. It’s my second to OK Computer. I’m sure you’ll love it.
In Rainbows definitely tops Ok computer...its literally just pure bliss
I know you said you want to listen to different artists but I would absolutely love to see you react to more Radiohead albums specifically Hail To The Thief, In Rainbows, and A Moon Shaped Pool. I would like to see you react to all of them in order bc I feel like you'd find something to enjoy out of all of their albums but I could see you enjoying those the most. Just keep up the good work. I'm loving the reaction vids.
I will eventually, going to try another band first though :)
Fave album of all time for me. This is what got me into music to begin with. Cheers!
