    Nice cover. The fact that the drummer is wearing a Slayer shirt playing starship music totally makes him a boss in my book. Rock on brother.

    Today's music is NOTHING compared to '80s music!

    Magic invisible 2nd guitar ...Magic invisible Synths ...Magic invisible backing vocals ...Magic invisible narrator ...I wonder what they sound like when you're actually in the same room as them ...At least they've got Seth McFarlane on Bass

      @Soundcentraluk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      csbluechip it’s a music video not a live performance. I’m sorry you can’t seem to tell the difference

      I get Seth McFarlane a lot, that and Jimmy Carr.
      A lot of people don’t like the use of a backing track with live shows but it’s part of our philosophy to deliver a performance as close to the original songs as possible which in some cases, just wouldn’t be possible without one. Unless you want 10 people crammed onto a tiny stage. And sometimes that means adding some synth or an extra guitar to beef up the sound or some narration to give it that authentic feel.
      You’re more than welcome to give us a listen live though so that you have an answer to your own question! We’re at the Gardener’s Arms in Ipswich on the 23rd or March or will be at The Bull in Colchester on the 30th if you prefer being closer to home.

      @@CraigScottFrost there's no need for synths to be played at all. Synths should be set to backing tracks whenever possible. They're not like string instruments where intonation and articulation are so varied. They're not like pianos where the performance involves precise articulation of multiple voices and pedals. They are too perfect to be like an instrument. But they still sound good, so it makes since to utilize playback for synths, drum machines, and samples.

      @@CraigScottFrost You're misinterpreting my motive here. I'm not shitting on synths at all. I love them. But when you spend enough time with synths and with other instruments, you start to realize that a synth isn't really an instrument per se, but more of a sound source and production tool. On the guitar, a note can be so different in so many ways based on pressure, velocity, vibrato, mute, harmonic, tap, ebow, and much more. And that infinity of articulation exists in nature to be harnessed by you. Same thing on a digital piano. But on a synth, there is significantly fewer articulations, and all of them are only what you program in. The wildest shit that synths can do is only possible with playback, because of the limits of a keyboard and human hands. A synth is only an instrument insofar as a computer or microphone is. It's more of a piece of technology for capturing sounds. Think of all the synth channels in a typical 80s song. In Broken Wings by Mister Mister, there's 6 of them. Most of them only play for a total of 10 seconds each. Should 6 keyboardists be used to cover this, or should the various swooshes and other minor parts simply be played back while the keyboardist plays the most involved part?
      That being said, I do think for the lead synth solos, like Steve Wynwood, that really calls for an actual physical performance on a real synth, analog if possible

      @@CraigScottFrost Nothing new to me. I have a Montage 8 and it's my favorite instrument I've ever owned. The guitar samples and modelling are incredibly good, but it's still not as capable as an actual guitar. The ability of the guitar to create harmonics, fret-noise while sliding, percussive fingerstyle, tuning machine bends, string squeaks, tapped tones, and all the combined articulations of these, is just not possible on keyboards right now. The next generation of tech might be capable, but that will come from the software company Audio Modelling, who made the SWAM engine for woodwinds and ensemble strings. And likewise, there are many things the keyboard can do that will never be replicated correctly on guitar.
