    Awesome mini. Its great that Darktide sparked the love for traitor guard.

      The 6th just looks very cool, right? Will ask a friend with a printer if he has some heads with spikes.

    He looks like a cross between the dregs and scabs. Scabs being the moebian dudes and dregs being the guys in cloths and drabs.

      I'm going mostly off of screenshots, myself - I might be the only person that doesn't have Darktide. 😅

    To this day the Blackstone Fortress minis are some of my favorite GW minis. Just picked up Forbidden Psalm: The Last War and it gives me another reason to bring out my Traitor Guard, Krieg, and Chaos Cultists for some post apocalyptic war fun! They fit the bill for scavengers and baddies in that game with spades. The Last War is geared to solo and co-op play and you make up a small team of around 5 models and they level up as they go. Worth checking out.

    Very very cool, great job. I wish GW would have options for models that are much simpler, come in higher numbers, and are obviously cheaper. Boxes with like 24 shirtless/disheveled chaos lunatics with just melee weapons and maybe the occasional pistol would sell gangbusters, especially with how big Darktide is right now.

    What are the best brushes in your opinion mate? I want ones that don't lose their tip so quickly as GW brushes. I'm thinking Artis Opus but they are expensive lol

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I've usually had good results with GW brushes. You might try the Army Painter range, they're pretty good too and the price is alright. Otherwise, yeah, you can start finding some pretty pricey brushes. 😅

    • @dmeep
      @dmeep ปีที่แล้ว +5

      use different brushes for different things. take care of your pricy detail brush and use expendable brushes for stuff that will wear them out like drybrushing.
      There are some painters like Sam Lenz that use cheap syntethic 10 brushes for 5dollars packs for most of his work.
      Also where you are on your journey as a painter will also influence what kind of brushes it is sensible to buy along with if you are speedpainting an army to get it on the table or spending 50+ hours on a diorama for a competition.
      Some people swear by brush soap and claim to get years out of their brushes that way. I haven't given brush soap a try so i cannot verify.
      A friend keeps buying new golf clubs thinking it will magically improve his game and I don't think a new club will help as much as spending more time practicing on the range and green.
      Tips generally split because paint gets upp in the ferrule the metal part holding the bristels to the wood. Rinsing your brushes out properly after a session and not gettin paint all the way up will help. Always use cold water as acrylic paint is a form of liquid plastic and hot water makes it set faster not dissolve it like grease etc when doing dishes.
      I hope some of this helps

    Another one of your videos that I added to my painting inspirations list :). Since I've gotten the Moroch box I've been wondering how to paint the traitors. After the open beta I thought that maybe something like that would work, and now I have an easy to follow process of achieving that :)! And as for the solo games, I think that it would be easiest to use something like Planet28 or OPR. Or the solo rules for Stargrave and just use those minis :)

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Planet28 seems like it'd have the right vibe, I think. Definitely going to haul out the PDFs for that one again and double-check... :D

    As a new baby youtuber... how do you film like this with the camera seemingly right in front of you? It's such a great place for the viewer to see from. I tried mounting in front of my chest and had trouble actually seeing what I was painting. Or do you use a good phone camera to film that angle?

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, you've got it right - the camera sits basically right in front of me, and I kinda... peeeeeer over it. 😅 It's a huge pain in the ass, in short, but you kinda learn to deal.

    The mini is OK, but why did all these cultists/gangers from GW seems all get out from a Mad Max - style movie?
    P.s. to add variety to your Wild Bunch of cultists you could try to make some Blackstone Fortress style bases.👍

    Super cool paint job! I can't figure out any benefits to using black as a primer, though. I switched to white years ago, and have never gone back. its very easy to go dark, but having to put down layer after layer of paint to cover up black primer is no fun.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The darkness is the point in this case. Most of these paints don't cover solid over a white primer, either, and when you want deep recesses and a few grimy corners, you can't rely entirely on a shade to give you that depth. White and light grey are useful choices, but for these guys it's black or a dark brown for me.
