I agree with you and Ren 100% as an immigrant myself (Germany to the US). Ironically, I worked almost exclusively for businesses run by immigrant families: German, Polish, Jewish (Russian), Filipino and Hispanic. I also did construction work for several years with a Mexican work crew, the only "gringo" among them. I have to say that immigrants are some of the hardest workers I've ever encountered, willing to do the really hard and rough work that most people aren't willing to do. 🔥 reaction!

My interpretation was that sackman was the power elite, the ones playing the tune we all have to dance to.
Ren is the revolurionary who has taken him hostage. He keeps trying to destroy the power elite but backs off when he recognizes his own culpability. He draws the eyes to make them see what they are doing, but as a result ,now sees the hostage as another human being. So he turns the mirror and then does actually burn himself like the monk. BTW, Ren is a huge Rage Against the Machine fan and i am old enough to remember the monk incident. The gasoline was olive oil and he got it in his eyes.
This was Ren and Sam's 1st one take and it took 186 tries to get that one take over several days . They are under the Brighton pier. Trump was predident during this and the guitarist is Romain Axisa his friend, roomate for 6 years and lead guitarist for The Big Push

      Back to front.
REN represented "The establishment", Holding the Rope, Protected from "The rain" (Storm) by the Poncho
      .
On the other hand we have Romain, "Blind" and literally "Playing along", but obeying commands ("STOP!")
      Romain is the population.... "Us"
      .
UNTIL, "The population" gains awareness (Eyes)
      Then there's a choice.
Either "Burn" the population (Which isn't possible)
Or, with the "protection" (poncho) removed, "The Storm" arrives and the Establishment "burns" (Revolution!!)
      .
If you take a step back and look around, "The Poncho" is being removed in the real world.
      .
Btw, also ref the line from MG2
"Oh what a shame it would be .... I would die! (/s) if number 10 Downing Street (The Establishment) Burned in a fire
(Followed by an even more sarcastic "Only joking.... I'm a peaceful Adolescent!".... really.... honestly)

Ren used olive oil at the end. He did over 100 takes. Can't imagine how much olive oil was involved. The guitarist is Ren's friend and Big Push bandmate Romain Axisa.

@@BBB_photography_adventuresI believe there were 183 takes over 6 nights, but they only had one chance for the oil. When the camera stays on Romain when Ren walks away to get the gas can, he was checking with Sam, who was watching a monitor behind one of the posts, to verify that the take was good before he committed pouring the oil mixture over his head. It was a mixture of olive and vegetable oils.

Why is there a knee-jerk reaction to have to clarify that someone isn't "against capitalism" whenever they criticize its flaws?

Are we so adamant that capitalism is the only way?

I’m commenting at the beginning of your reaction because OMG! I’ve watched the MG’s an embarrassing number of times and have also watched many many reactions to it and could never work out the significance of REN’s clothing choice in MG1. I’m colourblind, and had no idea that his clothing was green! Thank you for mentioning that, none of the other reactors I’ve seen have picked up on that and pointed it out. Makes such a difference to my understanding of what Ren represents in this. Thank you!

Now I've fully watched it, WOW that was a satisfyingly substantial reaction! It's really enjoyable to see you not only appreciating and enjoying Ren's work, but engaging with the ideas in/behind it. Top-notch work there, friend, mighty good stuff! Re drawing on the eyes: it occurred to me that maybe he's also saying that for all one tries to give others eyes, they still can't see...

It is beautiful to see how you become more and more confident in your reactions as you find out what works for you and what you need to create these in depth reactions and analyses. I appreciate that you are not afraid to speek your mind. It is powerful to see. Of course you will miss things, even tough you are very thorough. When art is deep with many layers no one should expect to get all of it at once. I love it how I can re-watch and listen to this music, be it by myself or through the eyes of different reactors and still find new meanings, points of view and masseges. And then there are all the easter eggs Ren builds into his lyrics and videos. You will discover more and more as you get to know more of his music. Thank you for your reaction. I am looking forward to the next one.

I remember, when the reactions to Hi Ren first blew up, how strange it seemed that people who sometimes still cannot communicate when they stand on their respective party political soap boxes, cannot hold a sensible conversation, found themselves commenting on the same songs, sharing the same thoughts, beliefs, and appreciation as each other. At some point I realised that the way I want to communicate when we do stumble upon something that is unfathomable to me, to ask why they believe that. With some I have a really interesting conversations, with others, talking about these things and being civil is enough. There are renegades who quite clearly hold beliefs that I find dangerous, as do I for them. But I know how kind and decent they were to others that they also don't know.
The most important phrase for me in this song is 'there is no left, there is no right, and in the middle we sleep.' I really appreciate that you were open in your views, which seemed very sensible to me, and I just wanted to say that, should you get negative comments, responding with respect and seriousness instead of the spiteful and derogatory way that some of the dividing trolls want us to use, you can have some fascinating conversations. We are all here because music made by someone who cares touched us.
By the way, Ren is a super rage against the machine fan. You'll find their echo in a lot of his work. Thank you again, also for not going the easy route.

I think you might be the first reactor that’s mentioned the greenish hue of the video. It very much reminds me of the green used in US money.
After the eyes are drawn on it is the first time the ‘hostage’ reacts to what is happening. He sees the gas can and uses the guitar to block it making Ren’s character question.

Okay! You're indeed one of the best Ren's reactors because you take it on so many different levels. A feat of an American whose fellow citizens are so often only one level minded. Yes, Ren's truth touches on politics, social, economics and philosophy; wrapped in the most meaningful art package.
It's also a feat to understand the white bag on the head in less than 45 minutes watching the clip for the first time. I think you were almost totally right at the end: this character is faceless, so it's everyone, at the same time actor (of the rhythm) and victim (from themselves). Ren draws on the head willing to open their eyes, then he places himself in front of this character to show him that all this is the same as a suiclde.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your reaction to part 2 as it's my favorite of Ren's songs. Cheers!

Susan here. Loved listening to your perspective on this. Especially your thoughts about immigrants and how the raincoat represents the system and power. I wondered if the reason Ren changes his mind about putting gasoline on the person with the guitar is because he realises the system relies on the faceless people. Now that the faceless people have been given eyes to see the corruption and also to look into the mirror at their own part in the system the lies won't keep the ball rolling. Ren has no choice but to take off the raincoat and destroy the system that is no longer working. Maybe not seeing the system being lit up is because we still need something in place to help us all live together in meaningful ways. Loved how you utilised time travel for your reaction to this.

You could have done an economics degree and you would have got a first class honours 🙌
My degree was in Economics and Social Science, from a centrist (non partisan) university. Basically, the whole of this reaction video you covered nearly the whole of that curriculum... You'd already basically summarised Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Identity impact on economics by 15min mark 🤗👏
All inspired by the literal one & only Ren! Really enjoyed hearing your opinions - thank you!

The ending: at first, aiming his anger at the faceless masses, he then realizes he’s as much a part of the system as anyone else. Hypocrisy and self-awareness play a running theme in his material.

I think the hood (money bag + rope) means that you are an unaware part of the money game. He, without the hood, is the truth-teller. After he tells the truth, he opens the eyes of the unaware slave of the money game, and when he is about to end him, he realises he is just a victim, and that the only way of remaining “unhooded”, to stay honest , not to be a part of it, is self-destruction. With the symbolism of the monks, that was intended (REN references Rage against the Machine in Dumb King Come)

Ren pointed the mirror at himself to inspire us all to reflect on our actions. Notice how when he’s moving the head of the captured, he is mirroring those movements. At the same time the hooded figure represents the greedy, but once he opens their eyes, and consequently his own by looking into that mirror, he realises he is part of the money game too, so what right does he have to blame and punish others? Just to mention a few of the layers and interpretations cause Ren is a fucking genius with depth 😅

There is also Crucify Your Culture, which is the precursor for all of the MG Series. It's a very Ren take on capitalism. MG 1 - Ren gives us eyes to see - Romaine can't "fight back" until he has eyes and allows Ren to see what he's doing to Romaine Axisa (the guitarist and former roommate of Ren's. A fantastic artist in his own right - worth a rabbit hole as well). Romaine was also a member of The Big Push. If you don't know about The Big Push yet, lucky you, yet another rabbit hole to explore. There's the busking sessions and the actual studio album "Can Do Will Do" which has my favorite The Big Push song "Icarus", which has a HILARIOUS BTS video that is worth the watch after the Icarus video. Ren's solo in Icarus is impressive but the BTS will make you belly laugh. The Sheep reference triggered a Ren moment - most folks "count sheep" to sleep - in an IG reel Ren, as a Welsh man, says he can't count sheep because it causes certain hardnesses that don't allow one to sleep. 😆😆😂😂🤣🤣😆😆😂😂 Ren does some RAM references.

Ok I took some times to start this one since it's... On the longer side ^^ But man I'm glad I took the time.
Not even 1 minuts into money game part 1 and you already figured the begining of part 3 (Ren under the bag) that's some impressive level of insight ^^
Then you proceed with a deep analysis on, well on everything actually. While reaveling a little more about yourself in the process.
And again the depth of your analysys is crazy, more precisely, the speed at witch you achieve such depth of analysisis nuts to me. You mental an moral "Muscles" makes you a beast (in a good sense) in that regard as far as I'm concerned.

Also (comment part 2!!) what I pick up time and time again in his music, ren is ready and willing for things to be burned (commercial fame, fans of a particular wealth/political view… etc) for the sake of speaking his truth and standing up for what he thinks is good, loving and right. I love that about him. (And anyone else who fights for those things and is willing to be unpopular for the sake of justice, love and dignity for all!!) 💪🏻😊xxx

Every time anyone brings up Quang Duc I like to point out that 160 Tibetans, both monks and lay people, have self immolated since 2009. These are RECENT protests, but apparently unless they're on the front cover of an album it appears their sacrifice is for nothing... Very sad fact.

No, I would never rob a store. To this day my kids will eat wild green because we foraged for food to make ends meet. ♥
We have become so accustomed to our way of living we forget we are in the top 8% of the worlds living standard. Even the poorest of us! Look around the home and see if you can find something you made from scratch...bought nothing to make it either. We can't. Everything we have came from people that scratch the earth for clay, metal, gems...for our pleasure.
Remember the song "There's a hole in the bucket?"
We owe the world so much more than we give. My home is humble, but I am so very richly blessed.

@@A-AronReacts if my babies were starving and the system oppressed the poor more than they do today, damn straight I'd rob to keep them alive. In America, at this moment, there are plenty of services to help with necessities but we have to maintain that safety net or desperation will hit and that will impact the rich whether they want it to or not.

As a counter point, there are many places in the world where there literally aren’t any wild things available to be foraged for survival. Every person’s situation is unique and personal, and others don’t always have the same options available to them that we might assume they do.

👏👏👏I can't remember anyone catching on to the symbolism as quickly as you did and get all of it. I'm sure you probably realized this, but Ren talks about being blind quite a bit here. An additional symbolic meaning to drawing the eyes shows that he wants us to see what's going on, like you said, to critically think. Ren has said that capitalism creates innovation and that there are positives and negatives to all monetary systems of government. Also, this is me speaking, Independent media is also biased. They lie as well, often by omission. The full picture, the truth, doesn't make money, people are no longer interested. These content creators, independent media & "journalists" need to make money to survive as well. 😐
