Love the old drive ins. Thankfully our local one was able to make the jump to a digital projector a few years ago. The local community really came together to raise funds to help them keep the place open. Great vid Ken!

I lived in a remote mountain cabin in Montana for years and myself and the half dozen neighbors I had would use a projector that we went in on together to have summer/winter movies. We used a 17' cargo trailer I owned with a sheet held in place by magnets as a screen. It was a bring your own chairs situation however some of the best years of my life.

That was great! Awesome production Ken. brought back old memories. I have to share this one with you. My first drive in movie ever was with my dad and I was about eight I guess. He took me to see the movie Psycho. It scared the crap out of me, I remember diving to the floorboard when the shower scene came on. Afterwards we both had a good laugh and we told that story for years. Thanks again

Hi Ken I remember when the STARLIGHT DRIVE-IN THEATER ! Closed. I still can see the intermission reel. The dancing hotdogs and soda. The snack Bar had Pizza and looking back, it was terrible. But we ate it. The last couple of years it was open they would charge us by the car load. I would use my truck and load chairs and beer and then the people. 18 was the most we stuffed in and on the truck right before we drove in. We now have a new Drive-in after 40 years but I have not been there yet. Thanks again for the video and have a great week.

In 2011, some friends and I did a couple of drive-in events for a local fundraiser. A local contractor had a huge lot backed by some big white apartments and let us use the lot and show movies on the back of the apartments. We used FM sound but also had chairs in the front row and 6 pairs of real working drive-in speakers mounted on portable poles. The speaker boxes even had the lighting that lit up the pole so you could see them in the dark. We licensed a couple of movies and everyone had a great time. The media came to one event and even took pictures of some of the speakers. The young reporter called them "drive-in radios!"

We have a rather famous drive in movie theater here in Tulsa, OK called the Admiral Twin! It’s on Route 66 and every time it struggles the community steps up with fundraisers to save it! A few years back it got hit by a tornado, the community raised enough money to completely rebuild and restore it!

Since covid ours has been printing money and the local area has embraced car and motorcycle people and because of the lax mood car shows have seen people PACKED back to back after the shows and they've been remodeling/updating with money from private reservations from clubs that want to have a meet up then put their own little shows on as night falls (no joke one put some serious money down to watch the fast and furious movies in an event they called "throwback thursday")

My late mother worked for a construction firm whose owner claimed he spent five straight years in the late 50’s to the early 60’s building Drive In theaters through southern states in America. He claimed he worked every single day, including Christmas and New Years because of the high demand from so many prospective owners.Btw-enjoyed the Drive on 9th. For some it was a chance to get away with the girlfriend, where the term ''Do not bother knocking, if this car is a rocking''. The last film that i watched , you tuned you car radio to the Drive-In and listened in with good sound from your car.

Would definitely need to get permission from the owner, but i bet some funds can be raised to get this place back in operation. Its not covid that has killed drive ins and movie theaters, but the switch over to digital projection. Its so expensive, and it killed a lot of mom and pop theaters, indenendent theaters, and regular theaters as they just could not afford the switch. My church just recently rented a closed movie theater, to expand into another area, and the reason the theater closed was because tbey could not afford to purchasre new digital equipment. Very sad they force you to change.
