Well that was a nice wayback machine. Galveston was actually larger than Houston at one point. It was a major trading center for cotton and cattle, I think. It's just off the beaten path, nobody wants to go to Galveston because the water looks like hell. The strand 20- 30 years ago was actually fairly busy, and more touristy.
