I was there at age 14/15. At Calvary with Lonnie & Chuck in the original church. Took my assembly of God grandma there (in her 70's) & she was holding hands with the hippies. Hands up in the air swaying. 🙌 one of my best memories of her.

John, Jackie Lay here💓🙏💓 I have really enjoyed your perspective on the Jesus movement. I saw the Jesus revolution twice. To be honest I really didn't know much about it. I knew Bob Gorman and several of you guys came out of that movement. It has really stirred up an excitement and new passion far revival. Wish our friend PEB was here.warm wishes.
I was saved during the Jesus Movement and I’m ready and praying for the harvest! So good!
⬆️ Univ. of Calif. Davis in 1972. I was swept-in as the wave moved north.
In 1975, I got radically and suddenly saved at 18 behind the wheel of a 64 Chevy. I was high on angel dust and had no idea I was going to get saved. I had dropped out of High School 2 months earlier and planned to stay high the rest of my life until I got very old. God has a better plan and a better high!
The Holy Ghost got a hold of my heart and mind. I repented and threw my Angel dust out the window, gave my heart and life to Jesus. I found out that the Lord is the most high and got turned on to Jesus.
When I woke up the morning I felt so good I thought I must have died and went to heaven. I felt the presence of God in such a powerful way.
My name is Lloyd Cole I got saved in oceanport New Jersey. The Best is yet to come!

I had a similar experience on PCP in 1977 after a 'Jesus Freak' had been witnessing to me for many months.
One night two angels picked me up and we ascended like bottle rockets towards God's Throne and I got as High as I possible could get before they let me go and I gently fell like an autumn leaf back to earth.
My friends couldn't figure out why I immediately sold my '70 Boss 302 Mustang to buy a '69 frumpy green four door Plymouth. All idols had to go as I found the pearl of great price.
Fast forward to today. 45 years later and Jesus brought me through trials that killed a few of my peers. Also great times where God granted me the desires of my heart in spades, better than I could imagine. He proved to be a faithful friend / good company / great sense of humor.
I have since seen my mansion in Heaven in a vision and now must hold on to the end, as Paul teaches us we all must do.
What an adventure.. I will be able to share this with my family for ever.. Can't beat that!

I felt so good the morning after the Lord rescued me. I had never experienced any kind of drug that made me feel as good as the Holy Spirit. I can honestly say that I have never even wanted to smoke another joint after I got saved.
Turn down several opportunities at least.
I think my friends thought I went crazy 🤣.
The day after I got saved two of my friends who we're Catholic pulled up in front of my house. I got in the car and they were passing a joint around.
They offered me some and I said No thanks man I'm already high. I was high on Jesus!
Since I was not really raised in church and didn't know much about God, I felt like everybody knew more about God than I did.
I said to my friends hey after you get done smoking that Joint let's hold hands and pray.
Gary had just taken a big toke and was holding it in. I think that really shook him up. He said, man we'll pray but we ain't holdin hands!
All my old friends didn't want to be around me anymore. But that was cool because I found the whole new family, the family of God ❤️
God has kept me all these years, thank you Jesus 😭!

I too was saved in 1969 in San Diego when the Jesus People revival broke out. No human dealt with me to begin with, but I had this desire to read a red letter edition of the KJV Bible and would read it in bed at night. It was a direct drawing from the Holy Spirit. I started carrying my Bible to Junior college and met a girl who was attending a Charismatic Church who invited me there to her Church where she told me a baby was raised from the dead. People were singing in tongues, and I was told about the baptism with the Holy Spirit and she gave me some verses of scripture on this experience to read and study when I went back home. The meetings were awesome and I begged a ride off a Buddhist to get back to the next meeting, and I received the Spirit there! It was definitely a revival from the Lord!
Awesome testimony, when I got unexpectedly saved in my 64 Chevy while high on PCP (Angel dust) I went over to this house in Little Silver, NJ.
I was real confused, they said God is not the author of confusion, set me down on a chair, they got around me, layed hands on me and cast the devil out of me. All confusion left and I felt free.
Since I didn't have any religious background I couldn't tell you the difference between a Catholic and Protestant a Baptist, Methodist or Presbyterian.
The people who own the house attended the Baptist Church that went charismatic.
They would have Bible studies on Friday nights. They would sing in tongues, so I thought all Baptist people spoke in and sang in tongues😂

I fell in love with Jesus and asked him into my heart May 1, 1970 at 11 years old at a 5 Day Kids Club led by a child evangelist who drew pictures in chalk that
glowed in the dark
In 1973 I got saved at age 11. I’m now 60 Years old and still serving! Lonnie influenced my aunts and they led me. God has His purposes… many will be attributed to one imperfect man’s love for Jesus to save more people than can be counted!

John, this is so right on! I was watching a video where the kids that are detransitioning were pouring out their broken hearts & broken lives! It's really sign of the end of times because all these kids have left is their souls & they are angry, confused & "where do I go next" or " What do i do now?" or "What is the hope of my future?"

Somehow I missed the Jesus movement in the 60's/70's, maybe bc I wasn't a hippie? But did get born again in '73 or '75, so I was affected by the wave that I didn't even know about! How amazing is that?!

Thank you for this podcast! I was radically saved in 1969 and attended Calvary Chapel, Vineyard, and Melodyland was my home church back then. We’re still loving Jesus and we too feel a desperate needs for God to do a fresh outpouring and revival is rising! Stay close to Jesus, stay in the Word, and keep praising God no matter what! I got saved at Calvary Costa Mesa in 79 at age 19. Went to church 6 days a week. Something going on every day at Calvary. How I pray God would pour out on this generation the same way. We desperately need another move like that.
a year later for me, February 1980 at age 21…but I was alone without a clue as to what church to go to. a few days later a high school friend called out of the blue and invited me to Calvary Chapel Riverside (Greg Laurie) and it was every service and Bible study every day/night after that! 👍
Wonder why South Carolina was not heavy into the hippie
movement? I graduated H.S. ‘69. In college at Columbia, our capital, I was invited to a Bible Study held by Campus Crusade and won the registration to attend the CCC “conference” in Atlanta. That’s where I met my first hippie which had gotten radically saved. I was shocked at seeing so many people that had not heard about Christ! Now they became obsessed by Jesus Christ! I had been saved at 9 years old, everybody I knew in our small town went to church almost every time the doors were open! I had parents who lived Christ! I was so blessed and didn’t know it!
I was saved in September of 67 fresh out of hight school in the Bay Area. I remember the VW bus’s on every street corner with a hippie and a Bible. I love Lonnies story
I grew up in Florida. Talk about being close to the Cuban Missile Crisis! I was in school( in the 60’s ) and no adult let us know how close we were to the threat.
I took every opportunity during the Covid shut down to tell any youth, college, or young person, about living thru that crisis and how every generation has had these anxieties and worries of large threats and mayhem.
Then I took that opening to tell them that there is hope in the living, God, Jesus Christ.
It was beautiful. Their faces either teared up or radiated from that encouragement.
We have such a ministry within our community and those we meet.
I am 59 years old and at the age of two years old my dad sexually abused me. After that started I was at my mom's friend house visiting and I overdosed on her friends pills and died. I seen and sat in Jesus' lap and he told me that I had to much work to do for Him, that I had to come back. So Jesus has watched over me most of my life, even though I had to go through ten years of this sexual abuse and know one not even the hospital believed me. I had my life threatened verbally, physically and mentally. Most of my life. My father has always been and will be in heaven. And I was in abusive relationships and lost my children because of all these things that has happened. But I have not ever given up on the Lord even though I am now disabled. He always blesses me in one way or another. Thank You Lord.
Praying for your complete deliverance and healing from this trauma!!! He is faithful!
As a survivor myself, I believe the Lord will use you to bring deliverance to the young ones who have experienced similar horrors.
May the Lord anoint your prayers and the words of your mouth to bring hope, healing and wholeness by the grace of God to the destitute of this world. He is faithful.

Christ is coming soon and those who are young and old may have the same time left to get right with God and finish the task given. For the old, they will dream dreams and prophecy in prayer. Paul's are in our front view but God is also building a army of Barnabus behind the scenes which may or may not be made seen by all. As the Jesus Revolution required both young and old for God's presence to manifest in revival so it will be again where Paul and Barabus will unite together for the greatest move of God the world has ever seen! The young have been made sick with I'll ideologies which Paul's are rising to heal the mind with persuasive truths dosed in creativity as Paul did with the Unknown God. Barabus represents the partner of Paul who was a fresh wind of encouragement in Paul's sails. The elders of our nation have been attacked in physical illness because of their great calling. Elders have been hidden as the prophets of God were hidden in the mountain while Elijah stood up to bail and have been hidden as a diamond hidden amongst America's crown of rubies (republicans) and sapphires (Democrats) and the diamond represents the elders- living history, those who have been shaped under pressure by time- it's their time to shine, to pray and break strongholds. As elders discover their purpose nursing homes will become revival centers and will spread. And through intergenerational networking the greatest revival will take place as God is calling all ages and genders on the mission to see the kingdom come and become a bride awaiting the groom.

You are very insightful and see clearly. I was a part of the Jesus People from the beginning and watched how pastors came in and cooped the leadership and turned a move of the Holy Spirit into an organized,established church that conforms to the world.

When I left the Mormon church and went to a non denominational Christian church for the first time it was the music that made me know I was home not the sermon. Back then it was a choir so I joined the choir. Then I found the bands because on Saturday nights they had a band. I am continually blown away by the music. The lyrics are usually better than any sermon I've heard especially when it's all about Jesus. I have heard some good sermons but they never feel me with the Holy Spirit like the music. I think that is why God loved David so much. I did go to mass one Easter and they had a singer that wasn't anywhere to be seen that sounded like an angel. It blew me away. I can't wait to hear the music in heaven. ❤

Ever since watching the Jesus Revolution I knew there was much more of the supernatural that Lonnie tried to move in that wasn’t shown! But thank you for sharing! In Ephesians 4:11-13 we are told that God appointed for the church to have apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers for the purpose of preparing the saints for works of service and for causing them to come into the unity of the faith and bring them to maturity and the full stature of the Christ. Read it in the Amplified classic addition. There may be some apostles and prophets in the church today but most people in churches across the country are blessed to have a pastor. Even bigger churches do not have all of these anointed positions. They are leadership positions that God wants the church to have but since churches are so divided and weak and have shut the Holy Spirit out the anointing to minister to the people is not there. We have people remaining baby believers throughout the land. We need to pray for God to raise up the body of Christ in the USA and around the world. We need the body of Christ to be what God intended it to be.

I am seeing how Lonnie's brokenness inspired enormous compassion for others who were similarly broken , and the Redeeming Love in Christ which Lonnie found was expressed in a pure and powerful way through his humble and Crist centered appeal

As so many that have responded I too am of that generation who as a college freshman 50 years ago received the Lord during theJesus movement. A year prior to Covid I experienced personal breakthrough by yielding to the Spirit of repentance. I totally agree with John that this is an exciting time to be alive. I am convinced that God had chosen Lonnie for that day and time to stand against what was coming, i.e. the gay pride movement. The church missed that chiros moment, were unable to help Lonnie get totally delivered, and that pride demon came in and in these final days, brought along with it 7 other demons worse than itself. Glad to hear this interview. I appreciate you, Sean, and John opening up and having this very frank discussion.
Love that analogy, when I gave birth to my 1rst son I had him natural birth and just kept think of diving in a wave ever contraction as my temperature was up. The Ocean is so healing has so many powerful abilities for life.

We are almost 48 years of becoming Spirit filled in the overflow of Jesus movement. We were at Ft Bragg NC then & Holy Spirit was moving with great presence unlike anything we'd ever known & certainly weren't taught. We've been wrecked for pure worship ever since.

Hey John Ruttkay-I would love to hear more about Lonnie's experience in the House of Acts in Haight Asbury. This whole story is so inspiring. Lonnie understood the Truth of Christ when he arrived at Chuck Smith's, but he learned much of the Truth in the House of Acts; did he not?
At Pirates Cove this year, we read the intro to Set Free, Lonnies biography and then listened to Welcome Back and I was weeping like I had been saved again!!! This must be a new ,deeper movement of refinement , and joy as well fir breakthroughs that I'm expecting in my family! Thanks for heeding to all the Lord led yall to do over the past year as well! I was in that movement at AR Tech in AR. Been praying for a new and better Jesus movement for years. So glad to see the early 70s being discussed. Always been hard to get people who didn’t go through it to really understand the impact on the lives of those of us who were there
I’m so grateful that people are speaking out about childhood sexual abuse and molestations/rape and so grateful there are now MANY inner healing avenues/options available for wounded and the sexually broken to receive inner healing through Christian therapist and God bringing complete deliverance and full inner healing so that people can be set FREE. The latest statistic I heard was that 1 out of 3 girls before the age of 18 will be sexually abused and 1 out of 4 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18!! This is VERY REAL. Lord Jesus, have mercy on our children! Blood of Jesus over the vulnerable.
I’m a male survivor and it was only Jesus Christ who could possibly set me free from the suicidal inducing shame I lived with for 30+ years. He is so good and so faithful.

Don't grieve, quench, or insult our wonderful Holy Spirit. We believe we have to clean up first but it's the Holy Spirit, The Living Water 💧 that displaces the darkness in us. It's by being filled with both Word & Spirit...that error is cleansed out of us.

I’m telling you where the lack is in the church at large & I assure you such as Lonnie Frisbee fell due to lack of DISCIPLESHIP.
Study it, learn it, prepare for it, keep family of God in mind…think house church, small groups, mentors, no limitations no exclusions of spiritual dynamics, include spiritual warfare, deliverance ministry, the word in application, prophecy…connect connect connect!
And yes the spirit of the Lord has been preparing me to launch an online discipleship ministry for years….YES! it’s almost time! 🌊🏄🏼♀️

I love how God is using Sean. He's part of our "Shasta County" community and has a heart for God's nation, God's holiness and God's righteousness. Saw both movies more than once. As part of a prayer ministry, I hear the oppression and abuse so many have gone through or are in the midst of. Being healed is a process that Jesus started through his shed blood. Stay in God's word--it's living, active, and cleansing!

We need the church to be transparent and real with each other. God wants us to share what we really go through and the victory to give God praise and share hope. God is love. The winner movement helped to bring in healing movement which helps to bring in repentance. Let the fathers and mothers arise to help usher in Father’s love.

I just visited Newport Beach for the 3rd year in a row Spirit led for sure, Jesus Revolution movie came out last year and I broke out and still share with people. We went to Pirates Cove and were led to share with the Hispanic community with a New Testament and a prayer. I believe Lonnies struggles were all things that I believe the Lord wants us to address again and heal them! Also Jesus used all that to expose the darkness to be brought into the light!

John is so right about Christian music becoming a business. Keith Green would give his albums away to anyone who couldn't afford it, and there was such an anointing on his music in those days. Sadly, he's not with us anymore, and really there aren't any anointed voices like that in Christian music anymore. I would listen to Keith's first album "For Him Who Has Ears to Hear" over and over, and it never got old. Still do, I have those songs on my phone, along with other anointed voices like Larry Norman, Bob Dylan and Randy Stonehill (all four of these guys came out of the Jesus movement, I think they were in Kenn Gulliksen's Vineyard church).

Hey, love you guys. Great podcast. Thank you so much. I was estranged from the Lord for a couple years but I ran across the Frisbee documentary the other day on TH-cam and then discovered there was the Jesus Revolution movie out (watched it the next day) about the Jesus People movement which I grew up hearing about from my dad. He was a pastor and a musician from that generation so it was neat to see the story told in these ways. My heart for the last couple years was bitter and hardened towards God but seeing the faith of Lonnie broke me down. Hardcore. I am now, once again, open to the Lord’s will in my life. Lonnie is still ministering long after his passing. Bless the name of Jesus! There is no greater name.
yes, I agree...revival started in the late 50s with David Wilkerson and began to be an outpouring by the 60s. This truly was a great awakening, with people being sovreignly saved by God into the late 70s! Thank you for the scholarly view of history.
I have the Life magazine also. It's a great reminder of how the Holy Spirit was poured out all over the U.S. at the same time, not just in California. I agree with Mr. Ruttkay about the "business of the music". I watched Jesus music become CCM and now the stuff on the radio is mostly dead.

Dr. Rob Reimer has a lot of great teaching in his books on the importance of a healthy soul both for positioning toward filling of the Spirit but also running the race well with a life long attitude of humility that keeps us in the Light. In Dr. Reimer's research on figure heads of revival movements throughout history he notes that nearly 80 percent of them do not finish well, and become ensnared by sin. Through a long hard painful process over the last 5 years the Lord has brought be to a place of great humility and total brokenness, and it is from that vantage point that I am being led to do deliverance on the broken. I have also found great value in the equipping ministry of Terry Wardle in Formational prayer, and the Lord has expanded my opportunities to minister to soul needs with those tools. As I seek his face I grow ever more in my desire to be used to bring spiritual, soul, and physical healing to those who are deeply broken to His honor and glory.

The comment John made is KEY to what needs to happen in the Americanized Western Church of today and that is commUNITY was one of the factors that drew people to the Jesus Movement. At large I am going to say with what is going on in there Church world today why would lost people want to come into the "Religious Organization" of today. We saw in there movie those that wanted morning you do with the hippies. Much of the Church today did not know what to do with these people that are lost today and bound to drugs, alcohol, sex, demons galore had overwhelmed their life. We have got to do better for lost souls of today
