It was a work of the Holy Spirit that drew me to the great revival of the 70s.. I will NEVER forget a cloud of love/peace that almost knocked me to the ground first time I felt it. I hated my sin and loved right living instantly and I had lived quite the delinquent life up until that day.. Of course it was Jesus, He departed from earth years ago and The Father sent 'the comforter' in His Place until his return to receive us to Himself.
When Lonnie Frisbee lived in Santa Cruz he worked for a while across the street from me. He went to the same Jesus Church (Mission Street Fellowship) I did and visited a Surfer's bible study at our house once or twice. That was a miraculous experience. He painted a 3'x6' painting for me, a copy of an Alphonse Mucha art Nouveau portrait. I still have it. He was trying recover from his divorce and rejection. He came back to Santa Cruz just before he died to make amends and not leave everyone guessing. He definitely was one of a kind.
@@saulespino2510 you gotta read the 3 books that tell his whole story. Don't just believe the headlines and naysayers. He was abused as a child, but very much a follower and vessel and friend of the Holy Spirit and we should honor him as a dear brother.
Learning someone's history is not giving glory to them. Of course, Jesus WAS the Movement but He uses people. We do not glorify anyone except God but knowing someone's history isn't the same as giving them all the credit.
All of the glory goes to Jesus! Only Jesus! The Holy Spirit always brings glory to the Father. Lonnie was his vessel, and it is heartbreaking he walked away. I heard before he died, he made peace with himself, and more importantly with the Lord. We can all learn from his mistakes and remember we can all fall if we take our eyes off Jesus. God bless you and the Frisbee family with peace.
So well said! No matter how long you follow Jesus, if you stop looking at Him fir your source of life and thinking its all you, ANYONE can and will fall ..Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall..Proverbs 16:18
They made it look as though he was doing a circus show during his word of knowledge moments. I live very close to Greg Laurie's church. I know what he believes in and he doesn't agree with what Lonnie did in his ministry. Greg does not believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. So no. He was not honored. They made those scenes uncomfortable on purpose.
I believe he was given prominence in the movie. If true the way it was explained in an interview I saw with Chuck then it seems Lonnie may have been attacked by the enemy to deter him from his calling. It was more evident after he left CA.
I thought they showed Lonnie during his time of moving in the Spirit pretty accurately. It may have been slightly theatrical, but I move in the Spirit this way and I think it is portrayed pretty accurately especially by someone who doesn't agree with it or understand it.
@@angelrebekah9153 That’s interesting because I didn’t see them as uncomfortable, but actually powerful scenes. I thought the comment about “theater” was more about showing us how differently two believers can view the same thing and how important it is to unite both Word and Spirit. The timing of this movie is a perfect reminder that we don’t miss that and unite under One Head (Christ) for this next season.
As Cathe Laurie stated, this movie is more like a painting or portrait, rather than a true photograph. The main things are true, but creative license was made for purposes of time limitations. Too much to get into 2 hours. At least this is opening conversation about Lonnie…and people are awakening to Jesus!
@@ItsAlohaMonday this is not about Lonnie, Chuck, Greg or 10k+ other people. This is what God did and using people empowered with the Holy Spirit. God seemed to remove the anointing of Lonnie with continual sin. It was not The Lonnie Frisbee story.
I agree about the healing part in the movie. When Lonnie prayed for the woman with deafness in one ear, she shows no emotion except a slight smile & they move on. I noticed that it seems that the film later focused on Lonnie’s major sin being pride & perhaps they were insinuating that it wasn’t really the Holy Spirit anointing to heal but rather Lonnie capitalizing on the sensational to keep the audience focused on him. I’m not saying that is the truth; it’s just one way to look at it (why they didn’t focus more on the manifestation of the Holy Spirit like people getting “slain in the Spirit” or getting “baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues”. I believe all that was occurring powerfully under Lonnie’s ministry from the research I’ve done so far. Pastor Chuck Smith was not so groovy with all that “sensationalism.” It’s still the same today where the Spirit is quenched but God is mercifully & graciously moving once again on our behalf. We need both the solid teaching of the whole Word of God AND the power of the Holy Spirit so we can supernaturally do what the Word says; to do as Jesus did on this planet when he walked this earth. One without the other is either dangerous or ineffective. Maybe the producers of The Jesus Revolution were seeking to avoid the controversy that often still separates denominations today and keep the film focused on salvations & discipleship.
@@ebnphlo spiritual gifts and being “slain in the spirit” never convey well on film. It’s impossible to capture the Holy Spirit working inside someone or in a room on film so it just comes off very poorly. I think they were wise to focus on the fact that so many were being drawn and lives saved and changed with touches of the Holy Spirit aspect so that very important piece is not left out entirely. That’s just my observations.
@@joinjen3854 the movie was pretty biased in favor towards Chuck Smith...and if you even watched the movie, the movie was ALL ABOUT GREG AND CHUCH - that's all I'm trying to say. Movie makers have a bias and they have the power to divert and highlight certain things that they want to convey a message, that's what film making does. I'm just saying that's what happened in this film. And just because you give honor to whom honor is due doesn't mean that you're declaring that it was all about them. You can HONOR the prophets of God and still know that God did it. According to Lonnie's brother, so much could have happened in this movie that expressed truth. As someone who works in media, there are adjustments that could've been made and they didn't have to add an hour more to the film or break the bank. I'm just pointing out the bias, I"m not knocking the filmmakers for shoving their perspective in the film narrative, I'm just saying they "could have" honored Lonnie more but they didn't.
Today March 12, 1993, Jesus called you home, I want to say Lonnie, thank you for all you had done for Jesus, the lives you touched in a powerful way, all the people you led to Jesus, being the Innovator of the Jesus movement. You are no longer in pain, but is in the loving arms of Jesus forever. May God keep you always. Thank you Lonnie, Jesus love you
Holy Ghost sparked the "JESUS Revolution", Lonnie was a willing vessel through which Holy Ghost moved through. So much so, that it pushed against "man's (religious) box" and it scared man. It would do man GOOD not to forget that... ALL the GLORY belongs to God alone.
When Stan started to speak about Lonnie wanting his Wrestler's Letter jacket at the end, the LORD showed me that Lonnie had wrestled with his choices and knew at the end he'd earned it - he was a winner - he overcame - that jacket was a prophetic picture of Lonnie's life I don't know if that makes sense but it profoundly touched my heart and soul! ❤💐
Sweet! When I read your comment it reminded me of the BEAUTIFUL gospel song, “Two Coats” “…Two coats were before me an old and a new, I asked my sweet master, what must I do? The old coat was earthly, tattered and torn…” please look it up on YT if you are not familiar with it…it MIGHT be patty lovelace? Not sure, any way, God bless you, hope you have a great day!🙂
The movie was beautiful and i think they certainly honored Lonnie … but its the story of how Jesus worked through 3 different men and changed everything … and i think this movie will be used by God in a powerful way to awaken the church and bring in a great harvest of souls
5 years ago my 17 year old grandson was saved after listening on the internet to one of Lonnie's sermons! I lived during the Jesus Revolution and wasn't saved until '86, but knew about the Movement. What a surprise and blessing when grandson came in one night and told me. I knew of Chuck and Greg but had never heard of Lonnie, and that night he showed me the video. I was immediately interested in him and after that I learned more about him. It wasn't until after this movie that I was so relieved to know that Lonnie did repent and return to The Lord! PTL!! 💜
I also was a young Teen during the Jesus Revolution, but didn't become a Christian either Sarajo, until 1987. First of all I also lived in a small town in Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦. I think had I lived in California at the time, I definitely would have had a better chance of being a part of it. Remember in those days we had no Cellphones like today. Praise the Lord your Grandson got to hear all about what happened back in the 70's and like so many young people are drawn to what was happening then. That is why God wants me to share my experiences in a 3 part Book. To also warn young people what not to do and to stay on top of God's Word. If you drift away and what can happen. An important message to share for our young people, NOW ‼️❤️🙏✝️💜🙏🏾💜
I don't like marketed Lonnie for gain and there was so many lies about Lonnie and I hope his Brother Stan sets the record straight. Especially about the teaching/message about "Bread in the Father's House". Please Stan, set the record straight. Thank you! Know of two men that went to talk to major named pastor about Lonnie for there # of Books writing and was REFUSED courtesy but yet this Pastor could market Lonnie and wonder where the proceeds went and did anyone live the God of the Bible, James 1:27 Psalms 68:5, Galatians 6:2, 1 Corthithans 13: Matthew 22:36-40; 25:31-end The Golden Rule, Two Greatest Commandments, Sermon on the Mount, Beatitudes, The Lord's Prayer, Ten Commandments.
I was saved in 1974 in Costa Mesa at Calvary chapel, I glorify no one one but Christ , you are correct we need balance Holy Spirit and the word , the apostolic movement lead us way off base and the legalistic Armenian lead us off base as well , to hit the mark is to test every spirit by the word and prayer
So well said. Many years ago at a Vineyard church, something Lonnie had been instrumental in starting with John Wimber I heard there needs to be a marriage between the Word and the Spirit! So be it Father. Let us us do what we see you doing!
Thank you for this presentation that was most intriguing because I was at CC when Lonnie was there and when he left. I knew Lonnie when he and Connie resided at the Blue House.Later I moved to Mansion Messiah House. I had a conversion to Christ and subsequent spiritual warfare story that will curl your toes, that involved Lonnie and Connie. My conversion testamony was so dramatic and miraculous some have suggested making a movie out of it. Chuck and the elders prayed for healing for me several times, usually at the Saturday night prayer meeting at the Chapel..Lonnie demonstrated Jesus to me on several occasions, he will always be fondly remembered, see you in heaven brother.
The movie was fabulous and Lonnie was given respect and recognition. If not for this movie I would not have known of him. God used him powerfully and when he fell , God had him and did not abandon Lonnie. Whether or not Lonnie was genuine , he was used greatly. At the end , he still believed according to a bedside visit by greg Laurie . So powerful. So grateful for his contribution
A lot of people are missing a big point of the film, that is, Chuck Smith very much continued in the word and the work up until his death, teaching the word and giving people understanding of the word. The movie is not about Lonnie, it is a movie about God using broken people to bring the Word to those who knew there was a void and would fill it with anything. There is a far bigger picture here that goes beyond what the film covers and beyond the general 2 years as told by the information cards at the end of the film. Lonnie was a piece of what happened, but Chuck and Laurie continued in the Word, teaching the word. It seems it can't be said for Lonnie, who had some setbacks and difficulties. The film covers the riff for a purpose, that healing itself (whether theatrical or not) is not the Gospel (it is only a part, and not necessary), but the Word must be given priority, because the word is necessary.
@@bobchevallier8456 The Word & Holy Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit are not 'equal' with the Holy Spirit nor the Word. Gifts are products, though not a necessity, of the Word & Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit Himself, is the gift. So if our takeaway from this movie is "gifts," such as when referring to Lonnie, we're missing the entire point of this film. The point of being drawn to Lonnie in this regard is exactly why Lonnie was dismissed by Chuck, who carried on in the Word as he should. I do not dismiss God's work through Lonnie, but signs and healings are not enough, regardless if they are packaged as gifts, and that is the why Lonnie was dismissed. Chuck continued in the Word and through his continuing in the Word, God gave life to millions.
You're forgetting that Holy Spirit is a person---you cannot separate Him from the Word, Jesus Christ. They are ONE. When Holy Spirit is moving in the room through his gifts--which are the manifestation of His presence, you've got to remember that the Word and the Spirit are ONE. If we shut the gifts (which is the presence of the spirit) for the word which directs us to welcome him and obey then we are missing whole point.
@@danapet1 @danapet1 Im not forgetting the Holy Spirit is a person, as I've referred to Him as such. You're going straight to talking points instead of seeing what I've stated. I do not refute gifts are of The Spirit. Such gifts, as emphasized by general pentecostal movements, emphasize gifts as a mark salvation, therein lies the problem. My bigger point, as stated previously, is humanity being drawn to this as evidence by the nature of this exchange. Lonnie seem to do incredible things. But he had fallen away. Chuck and company, continued to walk in the Word, with the Spirit and greater things came of it than marks of gifts. The greatest gift of the Spirit, is the Spirit Himself, not the supernatural encounters, because even those who witness a flash, will still deny it. Those who let the Word indwell, and take root, are building a house with a firm foundation. Not one that can be washed away at the first sign of the wind.
@ Alphadrum 🙌 I couldn’t agree more! The gifts of the spirit are temporary, the FRUIT of the Spirit is eternal… we need to focus more attention on building fruit and strong godly character which comes about through maturity.
We had afterglow at the Women’s club in Dana Point. It was 1970 - 1974 for me and I went to the tiny Calvary Chapel on Saturday nights. Love Song was the worship band. Afterglow was where I learned about Holy Spirit and the gifts. It was a blessed time!!
I first heard about Chuck Smith listening to Jon Courson who went to Calvary Chapel. When I saw the trailer for this movie the Lord gave me a heart tug when I saw J. R. portraying Lonnie Frisbee. The Lord then lead me down a Lonnie Frisbee rabbit hole. I am fascinated and overwhelmed by how his Mothers Day Sermon correlates prophetically with what’s going on in our world today. It’s not a coincidence that this movie is out or that we are talking about Lonnie Frisbee some 30 years after his death.
Lori, read here : Thanks Rob and Stan for this great interview. I witnessed a Lonnie church meeting in Morro Bay, CA about 1990. It was the most awesome church service I ever went to in my life and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was high with the Holy Ghost for 3 days afterwards!! I LOVED IT! Some of the people would not accept it and they all left bummed out. Kinda like how I felt after watching the "Jesus Revolution" movie last night. I have not been to a movie theater in 2 years. Only 5 other people were in the theatre. For 30 years I had questions. I read all of Roger Sachs books, highly recommend them. I attended a Los Osos Vineyard at this time and after this meeting the church split up and I quit going. The Jesus Revolution movie was great at first. I liked it highly, but kinda bummed me out at the end. I was like "So, where is this revival? Are we to get another one?" I did not leave theatre all fired up on Jesus, rather walked out all quiet and bummed out. I give the producer a "C" on his movie. Now I know who funded the movie and it makes sense now "Come Holy Spirit and knock everyone down and re-charge their bodies with your powerful LOVE!! Amen
I felt the same. I had researched him long ago when I taught about revival. Now my hunger to know more about the ministry has increased again. Exciting time! Come Lord Jesus!
I was in high school in the late 70s In El Toro Calif . I was on the way to a party. My friends and I stopped at by Calvery Chapeal Costa Mesa. Thus was a year or two after the tent was taken down and the new building was up. 2end chapter of acts was playing. And after the Gospel message. I went back the following Friday and the Friday after that . Love song band was there. And I got saved at that time ... I did not see Lonnie at that time . But the Holy Spirit was moving ... big time.! I was a surfer at the time still am. Love the Lord with all my heart . And I am still walking with a strong relationship with Jesus. The Movie Jesus Revaluation. Was a really great movie . And I pray that we have a new movement again . With the word of God and the Holy Sprit at the same time ... You have to have both.... Keeping this prayer . Thank you for this interview with Lonnie, brother . .. God bless. I learned a lot. We all are broken . I was . And Jesus saved me..
Went to see the movie last weekend, then was flabbergasted by the epilogue when it says Lonnie initiated the Vineyard movement…. I had been in the Vineyard and in leadership for 25 years and had never heard of him!! So immediately I started researching, watched the documentary, and bought his books! What an emotional rollercoaster has it been!! SO, SO GRATEFUL Roger Sachs wrote these books directly from Lonnie’s words! Thank God people like John Ruttkay and Stan Frisbee are here to give some context to everything. I needed to understand this, to wrap my head around why this guy never gets mentioned in the movement he helped founded. My husband and I are now devouring these books! At peace now and so inspired!! God even turns our messy conflicts for His Glory-Lonnie’s story was hibernating until now for such a time as this!!
From the UK I have only recently heard of Lonnie since hearing about the movie. Stan said that Lonnie had a childlike nature. I get that feeling from listening to some of Lonnie's sermons which I found recently on youtube, he sounds so genuine, simplistic, loving in his preaching. “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.' Mathew 18.3 God used Lonnie in a wonderful way to bring others to Jesus. Lonnie seems to have done what God required and although he stumbled later in life he loved God. It is good to hear from his brother Stan who sounds so gentle, calm and loving remembering his brother Lonnie. I agree that Lonnie was all natural, I'm glad he never went to seminary too and retained his simplicity for his love of Jesus which attracted others to him because they could understand the message without all the big words. Yes, Lonnie probably did need some balance in his life between his ministry and personal life, and things may have been different for Lonnie if he'd had that balance, but God knows how our lives will play out from the start, middle and end. Agree with Stan we need word and spirit. As Robby says something is stirring and thank God for that. We are all broken, hurting and wounded people and Jesus is our Saviour, thank God he can use broken vessels. Amen.
The message is, if and when you fall, COME BACK to Jesus!!! We are encouraged by the testimony of others, but Jesus alone is perfect in holiness and He alone is our focus. If we focus on Him, no one else’s fall can separate us from the love of God ❤ I’m so glad to hear that apparently Lonnie did come back!!!
P R O B A B L Y ...gets you thrown out of court as a guesser..not a witness. I.e., 2 people fight in a back alley...u do not see the fight...U tell the judge you heard about it...NOT A WITNESS
Lonnie was the beating heart. Chuck Smith was the mind. They need each other. The mind shouldn’t say to the heart “I don’t need you.” ♥️ Lonnie was the empty vessel that was so totally open and surrendered to God. Chuck had the structure, foundation and shelter that artistic people like Lonnie need. Lonnie also needed some practical pointers on how to be a good husband and how to address and heal trauma so you don’t have to battle addictions and imbalance so much. I learned so much from this interview.
Lonnie clearly still harbored the spirit of rebellion against authority that was so characteristic of the 60's. He couldn't submit to pastoral authority.
This is an interesting conversation. I was personally present to hear Lonnie preach at the Riverside Episcopal church down the street from the Riverside Auditorium. I totally agree that the balance of scripture and the Holy Spirit are both important. At the time, I was a 4th generation Seventh-Day Adventist and I have to say, the SCRIPTURE verse by verse teaching side of the Jesus movement was vital in my breaking free from Adventism. Describing emphasis on scripture as “dry works” is to diminish how I connected and am anchored in scripture. It’s where I get to know God Himself in the words He has preserved over the ages to reveal who He is! The Holy Spirit is part of my encounter with scripture. It is against this that I test everything experiential and doctrinal. My cultural upbringing does influence how expressively I may respond to the Holy Spirit. But I have decades of experience knowing He lives in me and guides my life! The Jesus Revolution Movie did leave out many things but the role of verse-by-verse teaching allowing scripture to interpret vs humans was key. Not only did it play a central role in the Jesus Revival of the 70’s, the high regard for scripture also lead several Seventh-Day Adventist preachers to get fired and eventually start growing Calvary Chapel churches by they way of teaching (referring specifically to Mark Martin in Phoenix). BALANCE… is the key. The Bereans tested everything against scripture.
Jerry smith, firstly why do you mean that you had tonleave The Seventh-day Adventist church? Or are you back to it? There is no many churches that study the Bible as Adventists, they have the gifts of The Holy Spirit (as others also have). And sevondary why is your profile picture a woman, whilist your name is Jerry?
As I sit here late into the evening listening to this interview I would like to say this. I have seen Jesus Revolution 2 times right after I was blessed to go to Asbury outpouring . There is no coincidence of the timing of the two. When I walked away from the movie which was so beautiful I knew there was so much more to the man Lonnie Frisbee . Even tho the movie may not have had all the details needed I did just as you said … tell me more about the anointing and the life of Lonnie. From what I have found his life was a powerful and beautiful story of an afflicted but yet anointed man that changed the world for Jesus. God is amazing and I’m thankful for His grace that changes us into His son and daughters. Thank you for sharing this interview.
Find John Ruttkey's expose on his long term friendship with Lonnie. It's beautiful, and truthful, and amazing... th-cam.com/video/SMpFN4QedWE/w-d-xo.html
Regarding the fact that Lonnie started preaching right away...The apostles spent 3 years with Jesus before they started and Paul spent 14 years in Arabia..the bible is pretty clear that one should be grounded before starting a ministry.
I read a quote years ago that says something like this: The Word without the spirit leads to a spiritual Dry Up. The spirit without the word leads to an emotional Blow Up. The word and the spirit together leads to a spiritual Grow Up. "
My husband and I went to see it Saturday and definitely enjoyed it. I wasn't sure why Chuck Smith expressed that Lonnie's prophetic gift was theatrical. It seemed that Chuch Smith didn't understand the gift of healing. It truly showed what churches are like in today's world, only much larger.
I dont think it was the fact that Lonnie was healing. I think it started as Jesus power and then lonnie almost became obsessed that it became his own ambition rather than the work of the spirit. Thats what I took away from it-- lonnie and Chuck reconciled at the end. The film left out what else was going on in lonnies life around the time. He was going threw a divorce and then fell away. I think the film depicted his down fall, lonnie did fall but on his death bed he came back to Christ Greg said he had a prodigal son story.
Having been born again during that time, I think I can give some helpful insight. It requires understanding something about Katherine Kuhlman and her method of ministry. The movie shows the Lonnie and Katherine together in one scene, purposefully to suggest that Lonnie was wanting to emulate her style of "anointing." A little research will reveal to you that she was quite controversial in her day, even among long time Pentecostals who considered her methods flamboyant and theatrical. Many questioned the authenticity of her "healings" as suspect. Joni Earekson Tada, a well known Christian paraplegic has a video on TH-cam sharing her experience at one of KK crusades where all the profoundly crippled people in wheelchairs who arrived early, desperate for a touch from God, were whisked away to a separate room to listen rather than taken to the front before the crowds arrived, as they supposed would be the case, arriving early. After the service they were all ushered out a back door to catch their rides. I imagine Chuck was trying to stick with the plain teaching of the Word instead of being an experimental "Holy Spirit extravaganza." Chuck came from a background of the Foursquare Churches, one of the more conservative Pentecostal churches, started by Aimee Semple McPherson, who also ended her preaching career in scandal and controversy. I also have a personal experience with John Wimber. When the Vineyard churches were still new, he was invited to the AG church I attended in Houston in the early 80's, where he taught a seminar on learning how to operate in the gifts of the Spirit, primarily, gifts of healing, discernment of spirits and deliverance. I have a theological problem with the concept of teaching how to walk in the gifts, as the Bible teaches they are gifts distributed by the Spirit, not taught by men. Even today, there is a great divide in the American church between those who think we should be emphasizing the teaching of the Scriptures, which is what Chuck Smith followed, and those who emphasize the power of the Spirit with signs & wonders, which is why Lonnie ended up with Wimber and the Vineyard. Lonnie may very well have been the spark that got the Jesus Revolution started on the West coast, but it was not the wind of the Spirit blowing through "miracle workers" that grew it into a blazing fire. It was the faithful exposition of God's Word, which is Spirit breathed, and taught by Chuck Smith, who became a father of the faith to those God sent his way. He laid a foundation in their lives that emphasized the reliability of the Word of God as the key to transformation and growing in maturity in Christ. In my opinion, after 50 years of following Christ with a solid grounding in Scripture, such as Chuck Smith taught, Jesus said that an evil generation seeks after signs. I think that is true of this generation as well.
Because the WOF movement is bunch a bunch of garbage. The Apostles paid a very heavy price for the gifts Christ gave them bit they always emphasized Gal 2 vs 20
I saw the movie last night “ Jesus Revolution “ So POWERFUL!!! LOVED Lonnie’s spirit & his genuine heart!!!! Love learning about LONNIE’S life!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻✨😇✨🙏🏻🙏🏻
I felt Lonnie was represented in quite a good light. His story and character touched me the most. Even in an interview with Greg Laurie that I watched - he was very positive about him. Movies miss a lot - it’s Hollywood. I loved learning more about Lonnie and I am so glad he found his way back to Christ, which the movie mentions at the end as well.
People can’t help themselves in making this about a man. It’s about Jesus using flawed vessels to bring a real spiritual revolution. It’s a carnal craving to try to pin credit on the wrong things. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Yes, God used Lonnie, but so did Dark Evangelists. Let God be true and every man a liar.
To me, the movie was meant to honor Lonnie. They chose Jonathan who plays Jesus in the Chosen to play Lonnie - people love the Chosen and immediately associate Jonathan with the Lord. This was a powerful choice and one done with great sensitivity.
I must say that we must never forget that NO MAN is solely responsible for sparking anything supernatural! GOD IS THE REASON for anything good that comes from anything we do! Lonnie was a piece of the puzzle, so was Chuck Smith and others. I was saved in 1972 as a result of the Jesus Movement so I am forever grateful to all those who were so courageous and obedient to the Holy Spirit but God gets the credit-
I love what you shared about your experience. I received JESUS as my Savior in 1973. After living very worldly the next couple of years, some pain came into my life that wrecked me. I cried out for months and chose to surrender my whole life and heart to HIM as my LORD in 1976. Forever GRATEFUL! ✝️🙌🏼 I appreciate your testimonies and the stories of the amazing things that JESUS did in California. I also saw JESUS doing HIS great work all over the nation at that time - in many churches, and schools, and families, and individuals. GOD was calling people and bringing revivals in many places in that day as HE continues to do this day! May we pray that HE brings Revivals in our hearts everywhere!
Thanks for doing this video! I felt so sad that Lonnie was not honored in the way he should have been. Nor was he nurtured the way he should have been thru the trauma he experienced as a kid. Lonnie always pointed people to Christ I don’t see where he ever made it about himself. The amount of religious spirited comments make me sick. Lonnie had gifts from the giver and brought glory to the giver.
Thanks so much for sharing to offer a little more perspective. Apparently, about 3 days ago, one of Lonnie’s best friends released a TH-cam video also fully clarifying things about Lonnie’s life including reading a small short portion from Lonnie’s 3rd book. I so appreciated him doing so.
Awesome thanks for sharing. Since seeing the movie I’ve been esp interested in his involvement in the Vineyard movement with John Wimber. That’s where I saw the marriage of the word and the Spirit. Sadly I also saw the how the previous movement persecuted the next thing ( the religious among the Pentecostals) its how it’s always been back to the days of being called a heretic and being burned at the stake! Judgmental words are just as deadly in discouraging ppl From finding Jesus the truth the life the One Way!
I met Stan at the vineyard very warm loving person before vineyard changed to dwelling place. I now go to a calvary. What I see is vineyard was not strong in the word and calvary is not allowing the spirit to move. I have learned so much of the word being at calvary I was an infant at vineyard being saved for 15 years sadly. It grieves me. But in the end there is no perfect church. I want so much for a beautiful church who is strong in both spirit and truth. I miss so much of the spirit of God moving. When I go to a holy spirit filled church I learn very little in the word. I've grown so much in thr Joy of the Lord in a word church and learning to be a servant which non was present in my life in a spirit filled church. I love the Holy Spirit but churches are so broken and scared of Him moving and want to control Him.
I was raised in a Baptist church, saved at a young age. Went away from God in my teens and early 20s. Returned to the Lord and started going to a Grace Brethren church where I really grew in my knowledge of the Bible, but left because the gifts of the spirit were really downplayed. Ended up at a Vineyard church some years later. I'm glad that Protestant churches emphasize different things. No 1 perfect church here on earth, that I know of. But most are striving to do their best as they feel led.
My parents was saved during this movement, also all my aunts and uncles! I’m grateful the Lord had mercy and poured His Spirit out on these young people! In all honesty, because of this movement my parents taught me of Jesus, same as them in their teen years and early 20s I done some pretty horrible stuff. One thing I held on to was the name Jesus. In my apartment alone in 2009 I gave my life to Him. I don’t know all the details of how it got started I’m just so thankful it did it has saved so many!
Greg Laurie does not say Lonnie left before the tent. He speaks of Lonnie in the tent and the movie also shows Lonnie in the tent. I love hearing more about Lonnie. The movie was not about Lonnie, or else they would have included more. He was definitely pivotal in the Jesus Movement and many, many Christian leaders today. God moved mightily through Lonnie. Greg L also explains some differences in the movie vs reality. He did explain that he got started in the home groups and Chuck Smith bought a church and Greg made payments on it. He just had to simplify the movie and cut a lot out due to timing.
I believe that Lonnie wanted his Wrestling Letterman jacket when he was on his death bed because he knew in that moment he was not "Wrestling against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12) and Lonnie was not going to tap out💪but to fight on and perserver. Well done good and faithful servant🙏
I think it was a combination of Kay and Chuck Smith and Lonnie. Flawed people open to God's will for their lives. I accepted Jesus at one of Lonnie's alter calls at the original Chapel. Chuck was a man of the Word and Lonnie was very sensitive to the Spirit. A powerful combination.
Yes and I believe they experience a sense of a marriage of the word and the Spirit. Sadly chuck got a little affected by what ppl were perceiving and broke up with Lonnie. God hooked him up with John Wimber and the Vineyard church movement which I was privileged to experience when my full Gospel Church shut down the move of Holy Spirit. Every movement seems to persecute the previous one. We must pray for this marriage to be restored. Father help us for Jesus sake amen
@@pamelakrueger1696 however, it seems the Vineyard drifted away from teaching the Word as J. Vernon McGee said: "Through the Bible," and became TOO focused on Kingdom Theology and Signs and Wonders, getting pretty Flakey at times [ George Ladd] , in my opinion... and started down it's own rabbit hole; it does seem like every Calvary Chapel has free online - book by book, line by line studies, and most Calvary Chapel's i've been to never deny the gifts - in their place..[albeit, a few are stale as dry toast, trying too hard to be a cookie -cutter image of ? some model 'supposed' from Chuck Smith's book, "Calvary Distinctives",..but that's an aberration].but most Vineyards have become very subjectively topical in teaching - you can rarely find any sharing the WORD - through the Bible - FREE, online..[ there was a Vineyard, once upon a time with an online Word ministry called - WAIT FOR IT, ' SPIRIT AND TRUTH' in..i think, San Mateo?], and I've observed most [Vineyards] are very out of balance too, only discipling there chosen few [ again, from a model - only this time, instead of Chuck Smith, Wimber's suggestion in raising up leadership]; I've seen several times, people from Vineyards NEVER - hardly ever carrying their Bibles, but rather walking around with a binder and 3 years of Prophetic Words to live by..dangerously Gnostic, ...it truely does take Spirit and Truth...and to say one doesn't have the Holy Soirit because they're not flowing in miracles and healings is naive; Salvation is the greatest miracle...and it was the Holy Spirit's gifting...not Lonnie's, Chuck's, Wimber's or Laurie's! Look at that little boy that had the vision of Heaven a few years back...God's Revelation to a kid - and from a conservative church - go figure.
I was a teen that attended the Afterglow with Lonnie. I can’t tell you how the room felt other than to say it was like a rush of oxygen, light, and joy all at once. I’ll never forget it or Lonnie. He’d get so excited he’d start jumping up and down and boom! The Spirit would hit us all! Praise God forever! There has got to be other places where this is happening, you cannot keep the Spirit away when He is invited to come.
I thought the movie was great! I did keep in mind that this was more Greg Laurie’s life story more than it was Lonnie’s. I did however, walk away wanting to more of Lonnie so I’m glad there are books out there that let us in on that but I was not bothered that they chose to let Lonnie fade out of the story with such grace.
You’re absolutely right. The movie was impactful, and I wondered more about Lonnie, which is why I looked him up and am here! Because he seemed to honor the Holy Spirit, and despite his weaknesses God used him mightily. I wanted to hear more of his testimony and learn from it.
Plus Greg Laurie does not believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. I would like to learn more about Lonnie through a different lense than someone who doesn't move in the Spirit.
Chuck was turned off by the excesses he saw in the Four Square denomination that he grew up in and probably went a little to far in the other direction. However, I would love to find a continuationist church that doesn't have everyone speaking in tongues at once in worship and/or weird, so-called "signs and wonders" with people acting crazy - rolling on the floor, drunk in the Spirit, etc. That's just creepy as heck!
With all due respect regarding Bible teachers, the Bible says: He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 1 Timothy 3 I've seen it happen with my own father who also fell away for a long time and had a lot of consequences in his life, but praise God both he and Lonnie were restored to the Lord before passing away.
The saddest of all is that even in this hour Holy Spirit is still being resisted. Please read Acts 10:38, even Jesus had to be anointed by Holy Spirit to do the work of God’s Kingdom. It is very sad that mankind will promote people as the reason for anything of God and not see how limited we truly are without Holy Spirit. Blessings.
I hope and pray there isn’t division caused by this interview amongst Christians. May the Holy Spirit freely do His work. Watching the movie was wonderful and uplifting. A movie will never capture everything just like the gospel books each have the same message but a different focus. Please, please don’t cause division. The movie clearly showed Lonnie’s role in Gods move.
No doubt your brother affected the lives of many people and his legacy is something wonderful and should be respected by believers. I don't really see anyone trying to exclude him in fact quite a few people have posted his participation in their lives on forums relating to the movie. I am 68 born Jewish and Bar Mitzvah and became a born again Christian at 14 but in the east coast in Long Island . I had no idea what was going on in California or had ever heard of Lonnie until I saw a video about his passing on TH-cam and then in the movie. Unfortunately many leaders have fallen prey to various conditions and people often forget their contribution to the faith preferring to gossip and put them down. I'm sorry for your loss. Blessings , Agape! 🙏👌👍👋❤️
Don't forget that a movie has a time limit and cannot show everything. Also a movie has to have a direction and cannot show every perspective in the allotted time. A movie has to use creative ways to get a feeling it emotion across that actors or scripts cannot always portray. I felt very highly of Lonnie after seeing the movie but I guess if you are biased against the movie maker or your expectations were of a different perspective that you wanted shown then you can feel negative toward it. A lot of times there are many different movies based on one true story but they each reflect a different side of the same story. Again, I thought they did a great job of giving Lonnie credit for starting everything off and I have great respect for him and his memory. You cannot condense 50 years into an hour and a half without leaving out 49 years, 11 months, 30 days and 22.5 hours
So I started hearing about Jesus Revolution because I follow the Chosen posts per Jonathan Roumie. I then remembered hearing Lonnie back in 1971 and immediately wondered what happened to him so a few weeks ago I ordered Ronnie’s books to hear his actual story. I just finished the first book and I feel like I actually know him as a friend! The stories he shares are pretty amazing! It is a spirited story of redemption, forgiveness and power. I am recommending these books because they are a voice in the wilderness as current today as they were when they occurred. God bless Stan and Radical Radio!
I agree, Lonnie's story would require an entire movie, and much like the 4 Gospels, each a slightly different perspective of the same event and it proves that it wasn't scripted.
What a sidebar! I was much more fascinated with Lonnie than with Chuck or Greg. Not sure they wanted that emphasis in the movie, but it seem to highlight his impact on the Jesus movement more than the other two men.
God puts a revival in place and does He use certain people to motivate parts of it yes He does. I watched the movie and yes it was Gregs Testimony so Chuck, Greg and Lonnie were tools in the Lords hands for each situation. I was saved in 1973 at age 26, I was not a hippie but knew what life was like at the time living in Canada and the Lord touched my life when I was not seeking Him at all but I am grateful for His gift of salvation and have never turned back and i’m in my 50th year as a Believer and my life has had several valleys at this time my youngest son of 46 is going through cancer treatments so if you want to pray add him and his brother to your prayer list for spiritual salvation and healing of cancer. I praise The Lord above All and live to see my family saved and yours as well for the rapture is near. 🙏
Being Spirit filled is much like Ezekiel 37:1-14. Without the Third Person of the Trinity (Holy Spirit) we are nothing more than dead cocoons. We must look at the Apostles before and after they were “filled” with the Holy Spirit and realize as Jesus said “You can do nothing without Me.”
It makes me sad that his brother said is was hardly about Lonnie. I felt the movie put a big spot light on Lonnie. And why would you fight for Lonnie to shine more. Let’s keep Jesus front and center. And give more grace to those who created the film. I feel like this interview is very ungracious!! It really just feels like he is grumbling. I can’t imagine fitting everything into 2 hours. It was not Lonnie’s revolution. It was the Lords!
Aprilcurry What you forget about is all the church abuse and the rejection when it should have been LOVE And about jesus and not about building the calvary chapel empire and all its control
I heard an interview with Greg Laurie recently, before watching the movie....not knowing much about Lonnie. Something in me told me there is way more to what Greg said. Then I saw the movie....and I am listening to interviews with Lonnie's true friends and reading Lonnie's third book now. And now this interview. I thank God for the truth being told. But I wonder how Greg Laurie and all the other "big names" can live with themselves leaving Holy Spirit and all His activity out of the Jesus Movement story. Thank you Robby for being a truth teller. God bless you. Holy Spirit will have His way. And it's gonna be messy. Bring it on, Lord. Come and have Your way in our churches. Shake us up. Wake us up. Let the leaders get out of His way! It's time. The people are hungry for truth.
I’m glad I came across this interview. Calvary Chapel is my church and I thought the movie was good but I did feel Lonnie was dropped from the story rather suddenly. Now I know about Lonnie’s books and I can read about the whole story. Thank you.
I was also really let down, there should have been a honest review or end cap about how Lonnie went on with the movement... I felt it was like " Ok Lonnie, we got this move along!"
@@GodofDisco No one in the church body at the time nor do they now how to address child molestation. It is the core of the downward issues Lonnie was never ever to come to terms with and in the end, the pain of the molestation killed him. I know this story well. The same identical thing happened to my husband. He was a vital part of this movement as an evangelist using the music the Lord gave him to bring young people to Jesus in the late 60's and through his life. However he died of complications from the AIDS virus 3/1/2015. He was molested when he was 4 1/2 years old in a public park men's room. He was never able to get through the mental and emotional pain of the 1st event and the repetition through his life. At some point THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE CHURCH !!!!!!! Starting now would be a good time. It is pure evil and being perpetuated everyday all day long somewhere in this fallen world. GOD help us!
That's how I saw it that Lonnie Frisbee started the Jesus movement it the 70's and Greg Laurie said it too! Loved the Jesus Revolution movie... Well done! ❤
The Lord used Lonnie’s Faith in a powerful way. God rest his soul. Let’s always remember who the Jesus revolution is truly about. Jesus Christ moving among us. We should make a revival about the Love Christ has for us/sinners! Thank God for Lonnie’s hunger for the Lord!!! Maybe Lonnie was the hungriest among us. He certainly worshiped the Lord In truth. OBserve what happens when any of us, including myself, makes it about us instead of Jesus. It happens. Good to know. It is Jesus Son of the Living God we hunger for. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🌹❤How beautiful is the genuine love between these two brothers? Peace and Love to you. 😊
If Lonnie seemed dropped out of the movie it’s only because it was made out of Greg’s book. So it only stands to reason that it was from his perspective and him being the focal point of the show. Good movie and I have no doubt it is as it should be. however, like everyone else I am really enjoying discovering the man Lonnie Frisbee.
This was a great movie about the Jesus Movement. I felt that Lonnie Frisbee was portrayed as one of the main characters starting the movement. This was not intended to be a documentary. I believe the intent of the movie was try to ignite that feeling of what these amazing people in the movie experienced in a very relatable way. Great film. Go see it and stay focused on finding Jesus...
It is very good to know more details about the Jesus Revolution that happened in the 60s and 70s. I thank Lonnie's brother for giving us more information about his work and life; however, I think it is not Ok. that Christians tear down other Christians because they do not agree on something. A movie is a movie and cannot include all the details of a real life story. We need to learn to accept and love one another in spite of disagreements. This interview was not done with that spirit. Ultimately, the glory is for God and our Lord Jesus Christ and not for a human being. Lonnie already got his reward for the work he did while he was here on earth.
Thanks for this conversation Robby. I have been a vineyard church parishioner for over 25 years now. I have been studying the life of Lonnie Frisbee and his connections to Calvary chapel and the vineyard. I think both Chuck Smith and John Wimber hurt him greatly, and handled their relationships with him very poorly. In my opinion, both of those movements should publicly acknowledge the impact Lonnie had for them to be where they are at today. I saw an interview with Greg Laurie about this movie. And it seemed like to me he was trying to keep himself at arm’s length with being associated with Lonnie frisbee as well.
Totally agree. The ego of Chuck and ousting Lonnie hurt me for Lonnie. I walked out of the movie. Damn these men with their need to be praised and dominate. Church is full of them.😢
The movie does show Lonnie bringing Greg to the Lord. Did you guys watch the same movie? I have seen it twice. Lonnie was shown as very evident as a tool for God's moving in the movie. Perhaps, there will be a sequel, more focused on Lonnie's story. Greg has said the movie isn't "wrapped up in a neat little bow".
Please DON"T say Lonnie sparked the movement! The HOLY SPIRIT sparked the movement....HE is the FIRE!! You are right in that Lonnie was anointed and used, but ultimately the GLORY for the sparking of the Jesus Revolution is GOD HIMSELF!! No man comes to God, unless GOD Himself draws Him.(John 6:44) And our Father has begun to draw millions to Himself, as many have prophesied! Glory to God for using us Poppa! Blessings, Toronto, Canada!
God has everything planned; they tried to make Lonnie invisible, but now God is bringing him to light again, and I believe Lonnie is going to spark another revival, in Jesus name. Amen!
The Bible says, "Charity covers a multitude of sins." One of the lessons of Lonnie's life was just that; if you are loving, generous, and enthusiastic about sharing God's love, you can be a divine instrument even if you are not perfect in resisting the temptations of the flesh.
The other lesson you mentioned, without the conclusion. To not overcome the temptations of this life land us in hell. Repent means change our mind, so our actions will change. It is a fair statement to say if our actions show giving into sin, they show we don't believe God's word about repentance...so we didn't. And we weren't saved. Luke 13:3,5.
Good sharing on Lonnie’s life, a powerful preacher used by God. I saw the movie, its great! Will bring many to Christ. I also got the 3 books on Lonnie, It happens in Southern California, where I live, I just heard about this movement! Amen!
Something is happening and very soon... Im not sure why, but I have had some similarities in my life to Lonnies. I never heard of him until I watched the movie the other day and was intrigued and did some more research when I got home to find out that he died of AIDS in 1993. I have just come back to God and following Jesus being led and moved by the Holy Spirit. I was molested and abused by my adoptive father when I was a small child. It went from molesting to abusing verbally and physically. One of my earliest memories was at about 6 years old I prayed to God to take me away from that man. The Lord works in mysterious ways... Around 13 years old I started to get in trouble with the "bad kids" because that is where I felt love and acceptance. Also I struggled with same sex attraction and never acted on it in fear of being ridiculed. Well at age 15 myself and 2 other people went into a garage of a girl we know in high school to steal liquor. The father ended up catching us and one of the people I was with hit the man with a liquor bottle and that turned into a big mess. Needless to say I was made the "example" and at the age of 15 I was sentenced to 3 years as an adult in prison. ( God answered my prayer to get me out of that house ) I never had a father to teach me how to live life or how to be a God loving man or about Jesus. I was led and found Him through others. I led a long path after that but I never once got in trouble with the law ever again once I was removed from that house. Around 20 years old I was homeless in FL and I was moved by God to hitchhike to Los Angeles and that I would do it in 7 days. Lo and behold I hitchhiked without incident to Los Angeles and arrived on the 7th day. I am street smart and book smart and quickly found shelter and I was connected to services and I got a job because I have always been a hard worker. There is some temptations out here in LA, but there is also a LOT of GOOD! I did a lot of drugs searching for meaning and purpose. I got sober in AA and stayed sober and was touched by God and it completely changed my entire outlook and perspective on life. It gave me a road map on how to live and I have not been homeless since. There is a lot more in between to my story. At 40 I started using psychedelics to search out answers and to do some healing. Through this I received what I thought were "visions" or premonitions. I have saw things that were going to happen a year later and then experienced them in reality exactly how I saw it. I had a few very profound experiences which I believe God told me to live my life and follow the teachings of Jesus. I immediately started reading the bible and I related to so much of it bc it had happened in my life. In prayer Jesus told me I need to be apart of a church ( his church ) community and was led to a smaller church but they are doing big things helping to feed those in need and provide services for the homeless to get them housing. I am 42 now and I have been an active member in the church since Christmas 2022. In my psychedelic journey I came to the conclusion that God needs me completely sober to be able to use me however he needs me. I may slip at times and I am currently grappling with my sexuality but not currently active sexually at all. There is more to a person than sex. I choose to follow Jesus today and am soaking up everything I learn like a sponge. I am enrolling in Biola to finish my bachelor degree and am going to go part time at work so I can work full time at the food pantry and the homeless ministry at church. I am going to read the 3 books about Lonnie because I really look up to him and can relate to him so much. Peace be with everyone and hold fast as God and Jesus are coming for their people very very soon.
Jesus gets all the glory …. This is a story of a couple Greg and Kathy Laurie and the part Mr Frisbee played was just that …a part a memorable one ..as did Peter in the original Jesus revolution . Same as in Dallas . Dallas Jenkins parents named him Dallas because of the movement there.. NO Man gets glory for any of it ..only God ❤
So important about allowing the Lord to be the leader of the services and our meeting(1970s) and I decided i wanted to dedicate my future to Jesus... I thought I had to go to Bible College to serve Him correctly. One of the worst decisions of my life. They taught by the letter of the law and not by the Spirit. After being on cloud nine with Jesus .. so so happy and excited about my faith. ... after a year and a half at the college I had a mental and emotional breakdown... found out later it happened to several people there. To get accreditation they had piled on too many requirements and Christ was not at the center... I did not feel His presence but by faith I know He had not left me... it took a while but I recovered because my roots had gone down deep. The Unfailing love of the Lord and His Faithfulness.
I watched about Lonnie wow so honest such love! I cried he touched my heart such a man of God a fisher of man for Jesus Yes so real! My Brother died of AIDS in 1992 he is with Jesus too❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I saw Jesus Revolution, twice, and it made me want to learn more about Lonnie Frisbee. This movie may not be completely accurate, what movie ever is, but it is starting conversations and causing people to research more.
Lonnie Frisbee was just the beginning of an amazing 1970s decade at Calvary Chapel. I know because I was there from 1972 and most of the decade. I got saved there at a Saturday night concert 50 years ago in October. The real story is Chuck Smith in my opinion. I was friend with Chuck Smith Jr. and I have a lot of insight from him that most people don't know. I was a starting member of Calvary Chapel Dana Point in which Chuck jr. was the pastor. He was an amazing and anointed preacher until he went down some strange theological rabbit hole.
I think you need to do a movie with Lonnie's story. ❤️ The movie was wonderful to show the souls that got saved during that time period and God pouring out His spirit using Lonnie!
The most telling statement is when the brother said the movie was about Chuck and Gregg.Isnt that always the focus in this generation of megachurchers. As Evan Roberts who changed the whole of Wales, the pressures of being "the One", the human stresses ended the high, and their lives ended in private struggles. One must salute their accomplishments even as we keep it in perspective and be clear about the "stars" that get glorified in the end.
We'll, no kidding, the movie is primarily a loose history story based on the life/ perspective of Greg Laurie. Every single person involved would tell a slightly different story from their own perspective. You can go ahead and do a movie about your life from your perspective and all your "associates" would see things a bit differently. And of course, movies are not documentaries - think we all know that.
Some of us are kept “in secret” and He greatly values you! What the church doesn’t understand Jesus does. I also struggle with that and I just told God “no one gets me but You” then I saw your post. 😊 Makes me feel not alone. God is using you. ♥️
My 29 year old son is literally crippled by social anxiety, general anxiety and agoraphobia. He was born again one year ago in January but has recently decided that he's not saved because he doesn't have any fruit and although he has pleaded with God to help him, it doesn't seem like anything is happening so now he's convinced that he's going to hell. I pray for him and I know that God loves him even more than I do. My heart is breaking. What can I do to help him?
@@deborahszafraniec4829 That sounds like a very familiar chess game, just like the one in my head. Very familiar! Daily, I fight the voice that says “you’re no good to the world and the world is no good to you,“ “you’re useless, have lost your salt, have no fruit, and God has given up on you.“ The devil backs us into a corner like a pawn, isolated and alone, a leper. Then he torments us by letting us think we have so disappointed God that even God is beyond helping us. What a lie! And the devil confirms his lie with people who don’t understand, who leave us, or judge and avoid us. And every time they do we back further into the corner, our cave, where we isolate and suffer. It is incredibly painful. I am going to begin praying for your son this morning. Can I give you my email?
First of all I would say to him, “don’t confuse fruit with good works.” If you think you’re not producing fruit because you’re not handing out tracts, not sharing your faith with neighbors, and etc. you are so mistaken. These are works. One prayer can move mountains. Think of Anna, who was an old woman without family, probably felt invisible, and useless. But every day she went to the temple. When I am doing badly my daily struggle is simply to show up at “the temple.“ To approach God in prayer, and worship, And praise. This is what Anna did. She did it for decades. You know, God did not need people to pray that Jesus would come. God‘s plan to send him had stood from the beginning of time. However, like all things, he partners with us and appoints some of us who live in anonymity to pray for his will to be done. Like Anna, whose service was without fanfare. She served the Lord directly and he regarded her as a great woman of faith. This was her service, but not her fruit. Fruit is the character of God that “Rubs up off on us” from our hanging out with God. It’s the sweet aroma of love, patience, peace, etc. that comes from spending time with him. Fruit is not works. Our works don’t save us.
Loni was the catalyst. For sure. I was there. Barefoot on the floor in Costa Mesa Calvary Chapel worshipping Jesus with Love Song and I got baptized in a pool, tons of us there but idk if it was Chuck's pool. Funny, I actually got saved in the same atmosphere, believers invited me to a pool party in Orange County somewhere 😆 ♥️oh wow I remember when they sang Little Country Church on the Edge of Town!🥰 thank you for the interview..I think I'll be back😊 I didn't stay when Loni moved on.. a home church started from my Highschool where I got baptized in the Holy Spirit ♥️
I appreciated the movie. Never even heard of this revival before or we're familiar with the names. Even though it was told conservatively (very), it has sparked an amazing awareness. I felt Lonnie was portrayed as a very human vessel that followed the heart of the Lord for amazing things. Thanks for sharing your stories and the books! I'll put them on my list to read!!
I’ve seen the movie 2 times now, just tonight as a matter of fact. I feel there was so much story to tell that they did the best they could. Lonnie was portrayed as the spark of the Jesus Revolution. As someone else commented the movie is about Jesus not Lonnie, not Greg, not Chuck. They were all imperfect humans just like the screen writers, the director, the producer etc. This movie made me feel the power of the Holy Spirit and the imperfection of people. I would love for the Erwin Brothers to make another movie about Lonnie and his life, as well as Greg and Chuck. There is so much more to tell as I am hearing in this video. I pray that this movie will continue to touch people’s hearts and bring them to Jesus Christ!!!
After I watched the movie I was asking “What happened to Lonnie?” We saw it this past Sunday, at Lexington, Ky at the Regal Theater with that crown. So like other people I was googling Lonnie Frisbee. I got saved in 1982 and I was 27. I am glad it worked out the way it did. I got saved at home one night ~ just God and me. Glad it was that way. Very special to me. The Jesus movement didn’t affect me at the time. I do remember hearing about it. I remember when young hearing people say Jesus freaks. Saying freaks - that was coming from our adversary. I watched one video with Lonnie in 1990 and the message was on Christians consuming each other. How timely. His text was from the Old Testament.
Jesus sparked the "Jesus Revolution". Lonnie was a vessel Jesus used, but no man can take credit for Jesus work, except Jesus. 😉
Spot on. Lonnie was only a messenger.
Amen well said Him and Him alone
That’s right 🕊️❤️
Amen!!
Want to sell the painting?
Was Lonnie gay?
@@saulespino2510 what does it matter, the man is dead.
can you post a picture of it?
@@saulespino2510 you gotta read the 3 books that tell his whole story. Don't just believe the headlines and naysayers. He was abused as a child, but very much a follower and vessel and friend of the Holy Spirit and we should honor him as a dear brother.
Let’s keep Jesus the focus and the joy all about Him in all our conversations. Raising Him up alone🙏🏻🙏🏻 7:26

The Savior
I don’t see anything wrong with their conversation at 7:26, did you expect them to say Amen or something?
Learning someone's history is not giving glory to them. Of course, Jesus WAS the Movement but He uses people. We do not glorify anyone except God but knowing someone's history isn't the same as giving them all the credit.
@@sarajomendez7994 amen
🙄🙄🙄🙄
What sparked the Jesus Revolution was a move of God. He used a lot of folks.🔥🔥🔥 Including Lonnie
I don't think Lonnie "walked away". I think he was shoved into a corner and he broke. I'm happy that he forgave everybody.
So well said! No matter how long you follow Jesus, if you stop looking at Him fir your source of life and thinking its all you, ANYONE can and will fall ..Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall..Proverbs 16:18
What's up with all these comments. Literally no one said that Jesus doesn't get the glory 🙄🤫
@@davechristensen8299 According to the movie he wasn’t pushed. He started to make it about himself.
Charlotte, I couldn't have said it any better...
Lonnie is honored a lot in the movie. Those who do not think so, need to watch it again including the credits; where he is honored again.
Yes I watched it and it did honor Lonnie.
At least this is opening conversation about Lonnie…and people are awakening to Jesus!
they still could have honored Lonnie more...as a story teller myself, it's not hard to change certain words, and bend certain scenes toward the truth.
There needs to be a movie about the life and ministry of Lonnie. ❤
I think there is one.
When Stan started to speak about Lonnie wanting his Wrestler's Letter jacket at the end, the LORD showed me that Lonnie had wrestled with his choices and knew at the end he'd earned it - he was a winner - he overcame - that jacket was a prophetic picture of Lonnie's life
I don't know if that makes sense but it profoundly touched my heart and soul! ❤💐
Not sure, any way, God bless you, hope you have a great day!🙂
@@brendacollins345 I WILL look that up! Thank you for sharing! Much love!!❤🔥
I bear witness with that- beautiful!
God used Lonnie in a mighty way. All glory be to God!
An important message to share for our young people, NOW ‼️❤️🙏✝️💜🙏🏾💜
Lonnie turned out to be be rotten to the core. Know it
What was the one he watched & how you get it? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙌

I was saved at Calvary chapel golden springs
@@bernieshomestead6416 My first church after leaving my cult church.. I guess i can also say , i was saved there as well...
So well said. Many years ago at a Vineyard church, something Lonnie had been instrumental in starting with John Wimber I heard there needs to be a marriage between the Word and the Spirit! So be it Father. Let us us do what we see you doing!
Yes.❤
"legalistic Armenian"? That is an oxymoron. Calvinism is legalistic
You cant separate the Word from the equally important gifts of the Spirit. You must have both.
Where was Afterglow? I came to know Jesus with Calvary Chapels in San Juan ‘s help during Covid. They moved to San Capistrano after that.
Even though I am not a pena costal I appreciate what you had to say about Lonny. I do think God used him. I don't understand it all but I 😘 Ve Jesus
Completely.
I just watched the movie yesterday and there was no doubt the movies central character was Lonnie.
I was in high school in the late 70s
In El Toro Calif .
Yeah because Lonnie was gay and that is why he isn’t acknowledged but finally it is coming out.

Amen.
Is there any other kind? God knew what They were getting when Trinity called us. We’re no suprise to the Trinity.
The mind shouldn’t say to the heart “I don’t need you.” ♥️
Lonnie was the empty vessel that was so totally open and surrendered to God. Chuck had the structure, foundation and shelter that artistic people like Lonnie need. Lonnie also needed some practical pointers on how to be a good husband and how to address and heal trauma so you don’t have to battle addictions and imbalance so much. I learned so much from this interview.
Kelly DeCamp - So👏well👏said👏. Every word. Thank you💞
hmmm and who orchestrated this....hmmm yup God...and oh yes they needed to obey their call...So glad they did...Lynnel Job
Someone should do a movie on the life and ministry of Lonnie. ❤
Lonnie clearly still harbored the spirit of rebellion against authority that was so characteristic of the 60's. He couldn't submit to pastoral authority.
Great comment.
Did God use Lonnie I say yes .. but was he the only spark ? I say no. The Holy Spirit used many people make a huge move
😆😭
Find John Ruttkey's expose on his long term friendship with Lonnie. It's beautiful, and truthful, and amazing...

There was a lot about Lonnie as far as I could tell. It shows how he lead Greg the Lord. I really enjoyed it and highly respect Lonnie and Chuck.
Lonnie's giftings proved the scripture that says, "the gifts and callings of God are irrevocable!" Once God gives a gift He doesn't take it back!
Regarding the fact that Lonnie started preaching right away...The apostles spent 3 years with Jesus before they started and Paul spent 14 years in Arabia..the bible is pretty clear that one should be grounded before starting a ministry.
No PERSON starts a true Christian spiritual movement. Only God.
Of course, but he chooses who he well use to spread the truth!!
I read a quote years ago that says something like this:
The Word without the spirit leads to a spiritual Dry Up.
The spirit without the word leads to an emotional Blow Up.
The word and the spirit together leads to a spiritual Grow Up. "
That is so good!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I saw the movie last night “ Jesus Revolution “
So POWERFUL!!!
I understand Jonathan was twice the age, but I think he did a great job.
So NOT a slick marketing decision by Greg?
One of us is wrong.
The Chosen was produced by Mormons and Jonathan is a freemason....Things are not always as they seem....
Jesus Revolution made me really like Lonnie ! Jonathan did a great job playing him
I must say that we must never forget that NO MAN is solely responsible for sparking anything supernatural! GOD IS THE REASON for anything good that comes from anything we do! Lonnie was a piece of the puzzle, so was Chuck Smith and others. I was saved in 1972 as a result of the Jesus Movement so I am forever grateful to all those who were so courageous and obedient to the Holy Spirit but God gets the credit-
Would you say that to Moses? Paul? God and man work in partnerships just saying. To God be the glory.
I appreciate your testimonies and the stories of the amazing things that JESUS did in California.
I think I know which video you are talking about. John Ruttkay (his TH-cam channel is Jesus Movement 2.0) had an excellent video on Lonnie.
Yes, that was the one I saw.
Yes I watched it in tears. It was a very heartfelt video.
I watched it! Its very good. I am thankful for the details added in this vidoe as well.
I just saw a video yesterday where Greg says Lonnie did leave just before the tent went up.
@@ronaldsautter6484yes I saw that too which was confusing bc that’s not what the movie showed
I wish I could hear Stan more. Less interruption. God bless.
❤️
Yes and I believe they experience a sense of a marriage of the word and the Spirit. Sadly chuck got a little affected by what ppl were perceiving and broke up with Lonnie. God hooked him up with John Wimber and the Vineyard church movement which I was privileged to experience when my full Gospel Church shut down the move of Holy Spirit. Every movement seems to persecute the previous one. We must pray for this marriage to be restored. Father help us for Jesus sake amen
@@pamelakrueger1696 however, it seems the Vineyard drifted away from teaching the Word as J.
This happens every time my church meets. We welcome Holy Spirit
Robbie: Let Stan Talk
You’re absolutely right. The movie was impactful, and I wondered more about Lonnie, which is why I looked him up and am here! Because he seemed to honor the Holy Spirit, and despite his weaknesses God used him mightily. I wanted to hear more of his testimony and learn from it.
Plus Greg Laurie does not believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. I would like to learn more about Lonnie through a different lense than someone who doesn't move in the Spirit.
@@angelrebekah9153 What does Greg Laurie believe, as far as the Holy Spirit?
Chuck was turned off by the excesses he saw in the Four Square denomination that he grew up in and probably went a little to far in the other direction. However, I would love to find a continuationist church that doesn't have everyone speaking in tongues at once in worship and/or weird, so-called "signs and wonders" with people acting crazy - rolling on the floor, drunk in the Spirit, etc. That's just creepy as heck!
With all due respect regarding Bible teachers, the Bible says: He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. 1 Timothy 3
I've seen it happen with my own father who also fell away for a long time and had a lot of consequences in his life, but praise God both he and Lonnie were restored to the Lord before passing away.
The apostles had 3 years of training with Jesus. By the end, they had the best education a person could get.
I just ordered his books, can't wait to read them
Just saw movie. I thought they did a very good job portraying Lonnie. Movie couldn’t possibly capture all of Lonnie’s journey.
I agree, Lonnie's story would require an entire movie, and much like the 4 Gospels, each a slightly different perspective of the same event and it proves that it wasn't scripted.
lonnie frisbee, “life n death of a hippie preacher” check it out been out for at least 10 plus years !!!
I agree
Lonnie was a side bar. The movie was about Chuck and Greg.
What a sidebar! I was much more fascinated with Lonnie than with Chuck or Greg. Not sure they wanted that emphasis in the movie, but it seem to highlight his impact on the Jesus movement more than the other two men.
We. Left the theater wanting to know more about Lonnie.
I also got a major red light in my spirt when I heard Greg tell his side of the story. Big money/big church charlatans.
@@sidv192 God will judge them all....not my job. I thank God for discernment that we have in Christ.
@Bear yep....reading Lonnie's books and listening to his brother and true friends helped me to find more truth about Lonnie and his calling.
Jesus is the meaning of this movie! God used lonnie to reach the young people❤😀🙌🏻Praise the Lord many were saved 😀
The movie was not about any one person. Not Lonnie it greg not Chuck. It was about Jesus
They all were VESSELS of God that God used 🕊️🙌🏼
Please be careful, the Frisbee's both lived in continual sexual sin. Something not present in Chuck smith or Greg Laurie's lives.
Amen!
Amen..have your way Holy Spirit
Stan has the same gentle spirit that was beautiful in Lonnie...the Spirit of Christ!
I hope one day someone makes an accurate movie about Lonnie’s life from start to finish.

My Brother died of AIDS in 1992 he is with Jesus too❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I got the fact that Lonnie was the spark used to start the movement.
I saw Jesus Revolution, twice, and it made me want to learn more about Lonnie Frisbee. This movie may not be completely accurate, what movie ever is, but it is starting conversations and causing people to research more.
Yes, me too, I just ordered his books
Thanks for sharing ! Lonnie truly was gifted by God. I am glad he wrote a book to document and share his story.
One anointed man's obedience (yes, an imperfect one) sparked my eventual salvation in the 80's... thank you Jesus!
It made "Father, Son and Holy Rift" Los Angeles Times in 2004.
All I know is that Greg Laurie makes sure not to talk negative of Lonnie or Chuck. He talks highly of them. That to mee shows he is trust worthy

Amen I have generalized anxiety disorder and Jesus is using me in prayer ministry
That’s wonderful and ofc He is. Courage is facing and overcoming fear! Keep pressing in
Some of us are kept “in secret” and He greatly values you!
We are all called to be disciples that's what people don't get . We are supposed to go minister to those who will listen.
Lonnie died of s as aids
