The nostalgia with this interview just proves the pure heart this man has for the hogs. He was by far my favorite coach EVER. It was such an amazing time to be in those stands and it just makes me miss him so much more! #ONERAZORBACK

Great interview! I was a student at the U of A during Nutt's early years. Loved those great games against Tennessee and LSU. Thanks for the fly on the wall feel to some big time decisions that were made over the years in the athletic department.

Loved Coach Nutt got to know him at Murray and his wife Dianna great Lady, Tennessee keeps me up also,
I was there that night in front of hundred thousand Vol fans,
One "Freak" play probably cost coach Nutt his first National Championship I believe the balance of talent with that team had everything it takes to win a National Championship.

I'm 34 and the coach I grew up with was Houston Nutt. Loved him and glad I got to see him coach. I got to meet him one night, I was his server at a Restaurant, and he did not disappoint. Great man.

How can anyone fault Houston Nutt for building his offense around McFadden, Jones, & Hillis? Gus is a great offensive mind & Mustain had a lot of potential, but you don't pass the football when the best backfield ever assembled in college football is on your side. Simple as. Half of the fanbase tried to crucify Coach Nutt for realizing that early, and the distraction it caused set the program back YEARS. We all wanted Malzahn, Mustain, & Williams to work out at Arkansas--but restructuring the entire offense with TRUE freshman to prioritize the pass would have minimized our best talent available.
Mitch Mustain might have been a better quarterback than Casey Dick, but Casey Dick was by far the better team player. And that's what the team needed...someone who could manage the game, protect the football, and lead the offense unselfishly. Do you think Mustain sacrifices his body and throws that devastating block against LSU in 2007 so McFadden scores? I don't think Mustain's head and heart were in football, and that's okay! I don't hold it against him. But don't hold hard decisions against HDN when time has clearly proven them correct.
The only Coach who wronged Mustain was Gus Malzahn. It's obvious that he leveraged his talent @ Springdale to get his foot in the door at Arkansas knowing it likely wouldn't last. So in that sense I sympathize with the recruits who were fed a false narrative from the get go, only to have the rug pulled one year in. I think it weighs heavily on Gus' conscience, so much that he has offered Mitch multiple jobs and opportunities as an olive branch.

Malzahn is still coaching, and he runs a run-based offense btw. Nutt couldn't get another job outside Ark. Ole Miss couldn't fire him fast enough. Nutt's act got old and they're were too many inconsistencies. If he would have evolved his offense, like Stoops did at OU hiring Leach, he could have lasted and wouldn't have been forced to hire Malzahn. Too much ego. Everybody saw what Ark did when Petrino got here and installed his offense.

He could have utilized those RB's AND employed a competent passing game at the same time. No Hog fan who understands the game wanted to marginalize the best trio of RB's we've ever had.

I never understand how he's not a color analyst play by play on college football games I always thought he would be great at it

Went to grade school with Houston. Grade school. Bruh. He was over the top competitive even back then. Yep played Jr Deputy baseball off Cantrell where Cajuns Wharf used to be. Good times in Little Rock. Dad would drop me off at War Memorial when he couldn’t attend with me. We always snagged tix. Then I would walk home after the game or catch a ride if I saw somebody I knew.

What a class act. I was a student when Coach was being run by the Springdale whine tour. I stood with the players who still love the man to this day. Not a greater motivator out there.

Nutt spent years trying to lower expectations then Petrino arrives and wins 10 games in his third and fourth years.
