BMW R1250R for 2023 Announced - first look!

  • Here's my overview of the updated R1250R for 2023! It's possible that different markets will have different options and so I'm concentrating on what is available in my market (UK).
    Please let me know about any mistakes or omissions regarding the 2023 model.
    I expect an updated R1250RS will be announced soon too. I would like to predict that it will come with a four-way adjustable screen rather than the current two-way unit (I saw a mistake in the R1250R configurator)

It is a beautiful no non sense machine, for me the new Sport Model with spoke wheels would be superb, but yeah, ....money money....lalalala!!!... anyways, more and more leaks seem to come up about the upcoming 1300/1400 boxer, probably for 2024 then??.... I wonder if the price will also again jump up like cylinders size??... regards from Still Bay, South Africa.

    Looking to replace the 2020 R1250R and as well approve of the 2023 updates.
    Hesitant to spring for the 2023 if the 2024 may reveal a remodel.

    I had notification from BMW Motorrad about this new model. Don't bother too much with it, watch this video instead, much more detail. Well done Ricky. However it is essentially the same bike. The headlight update though is very welcome. For me, its front headlight is a weakness. Also the blue version is gorgeous. I have a R1250R 2021 model, but can not justify the upgrade, and that very much is because of the expense, plus it has the same engine, which in itself is superb. Expensive to buy, but, as bikes go, cheap to run.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I also saw the BMW video but at less than two minutes long I thought it was a bit of an insult to be honest! I'm with you, the current headlight is pants and I hope for the sake of new owners that the LED unit is much better.
      Not as many upgrades as I hoped for... more like a mid-life refresh as I mentioned. I hope the model that follows this one in a year or two gets with the upgrades it deserves 👍👍

      @@lazaroskechagias1780 Basically I think the rider modes should have the same configurable traction control, ABS and Wheelie control as the S1000R. I think the suspension should be more configurable too especially when it comes to preload because I think only the Max preload setting can handle moderately sporty riding without the bike turning into a pogo stick 😂 Don't get me wrong, I love my R1250R, but I just think it could be better!

  • @jontaylor5322
    @jontaylor5322 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video, great info. Currently on the 1250RS, but looking to the 1250R for the better handling, front axle NOT kicked out makes a massive difference having had a 1250R during the last service.
    Colours are the point for me. Where are all the vibrant colours? Triumph have done the same. Grey, Black, White (OK, they've thrown a token Blue in), boring, looking to possibly wrap the RS to a bright Red. But why all the dull industrial colours now-a-days? If they have a bright Green or Red etc, I'd be much more likely to swap out early, but 1 more year to go to use the warranty up...😁😁😁 Then let's see what's on offer, maybe this promised 1300???
    Cheers!!!👍👍👍

      @RikkyTang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I find the RS a little slower to steer and the lower handlebars don't help much either. The R is a livlier ride :) Yes the colours aren't up to much unless you like the motorsport colour scheme. Also looking forward to the 1300... the anticipation is high!!

    Hello Rikky, My bike is a cafe racer (different brand) but I really would like to have R1250R (specially the new y2023). The only question you may know: I have seen that sport modell (with blue color) has a different handlebar. Basic looks higher and closer to the biker and sporty is lower and farther. I'm looking for a bike with very comfortable position. What do you think about this? I mean with different handlebar?

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not tried the low handlebar but I will say that if you want a bike that is very comfortable, then the standard handlebar is probably the best option anyway. You may be able to negotiate a swap of the handlebar with your motorcycle dealer?
      Having said this, if you coming from a cafe racer, even the low handlebar will probably be a lot more comfortable than you are used to 😊

    As a 2017 1200R owner I would love one of these new models but I suspect a 2/3 year old current spec model would be my next bike if I upgrade as cost certainly does play a part in my decision and as much as I would love a brand new bike I just cannot justify the outlay especially when approved used models come with a factory based warranty

    You mention about poor lighting ? I drive a vw Tiguan car and it has cornering light but considering it’s a car the light’s are awful when in bad weather . My old Kawasaki Z1000st light was fantastic and not Led so I don’t understand these modern light they look good but not for seeing where your going?

    • @ronr6605
      @ronr6605 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cornering light on motorbikes with a straight mask works that way that gyro sensors gets lean angle and speed and switch an additional light on either side on. Those systems doesn't do the job as good as on a car, lets say on a Citroën SM (which would be superior), but fair enough for a bike with a straight mask where you see nothin without that system going round a 180 bend road, lil bit more with it. The light is quite good my wife and I got it at the f900r and s1000r and often come back home in the dark... it does its job.

      You are not alone in wondering why these manufacturers are not producing excellent headlights on every model they produce... we are well into the 21st century now, it should not be this difficult!
      My guess is a lot of it comes down to development budget and how much money they have to develop the internal reflectors needed for these fancy headlight shapes.

    I'm on the market for a bike just like this one. TBH I'm so in love with it but the thing that bothers me so much is the kind of business BMW offers. How can the Dynamic mode be an option when it's basically the full power of the bike? The power is there, you just have to pay money to have it. No cruise control, no quickshifter, not even a center stand!
    Anyway, good job man. You've got yourself another complaining subscriber.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Mr. Grumpy! Welcome and thanks for subscribing!
      Now this may be splitting hairs but I do want to clarify one thing - there is no difference in power output between Road and Dynamic rider modes. Basically these two rider modes control how fast the throttle butterflies open... meaning that Dynamic feels a bit more aggressive when you open the throttle, but again there are no changes to the actual peak power/torque numbers.
      I know these bikes aren't super popular and so perhaps they an an aquired taste, but I'm so glad I first took one for a test ride in 2019, it suits me down to the ground 😊
      But yes I do see your point still about the optional extras - sadly most of BMW's competitors are doing exactly the same things and we all let them get away with it.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I were to go with an aftermarket option I'd actually sell a kidney and buy carbon fibre wheels, full Akra, remap and still be quids in (just about!) But seriously if another bike doesn't take my fancy I can see me saving up for some CF wheels... I think that could bring some performance benefits that are well documented on other bikes.

    • @WilkoLV
      @WilkoLV ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RikkyTang I prefer tubes and spokes for comfort and control on bumpy road and off-road conditions and they have more feeling in them than a tubeless alloy setup on the road. Once I own a bike that I've fallen for, I don't get rid of them and carbon doesn't do it for me in the ways above, and for an extra point that a carbon wheel may crack one day and cannot be fixed unfortunately. Carbon wheels do look cool and possibly give you more agile handling, if you've got the money and skill ;)
