I dedicate this amazing song to my husband, my second husband of 19 years so far. We met online in 2003 when 43 years old. I left my country to marry him in Texas, got my Masters degree there 🎉He’s German and I am Latina. Now we live in Europe at 63/65 y/o. He’s retired and I still work virtually ❤❤❤
This song defines my relationship with my boyfriend. It's our song. We met in high school and reunited two years ago. He was selling records at a record show. He recognized me and said my name which kind of took me by surprise. Then he told me who he was and I was blown away. Talk about a glow up. The bad thing was I had a boyfriend at the time. That relationship fell apart. Then he connected on New Year's Eve. I told him I would regret it if we didn't kiss at midnight. That's exactly what we did and we've been together ever since. ❤
I fell in love with a 24 year old site unseen! when I met her and closed the deal, I promise everyone, she will never forget this song! oh, I wish I knew her when I was young, we would still be sharing my mood.
the lyrics to this song is breathtakingly beautiful, i don't know what made me just want to come back to listen to it, but sometimes a song just calls out to you
I don't listen to the radio often, but when I heard "Wish I Knew You" I just couldn't believe that I had to hear it over and over! The seven minute version has great saxophone solos. Today, I have listened to it a dozen times again.

Such a beautiful video and song. It’s never too late. For those of you thinking your life is over or you’re feeling like you’ll never get what you truly want; Just know that it’s never too late. Get out there now and somehow go after everything you desire. You can do it.

At age 31, this song makes me think hard about life..... Like how I need to embrace and take advantage of all new opportunities life still has for me and make the best out of the present, before it is too late. We can't live in regret!
vanessa gonzalez If you like the sax in songs like this, you may be interested in checking out songs by "INXS". They were an early 80s to mid 90s band that loved using sax in their pieces. The lead singer has an amazing voice as well. Let me know if you check them out!

Anybody else bawling their eyes out over this? It's been so long, they've waited so long, and yet it feels like no time has passed at all, their love makes them feel young again, and it doesn't matter how much time has passed. God damn.
After a few years of homelessness and terrible abuse everywhere I landed, I went to stay with a man who was gentle and kind to me, ever patient where others had been extremely ugly to me. After a few nights he played this song for me. I do wish I knew him when we were young. We might have made some big noise in the woods stomping down family trees together. I hope for him only the very best and that we'll meet again sooner than later. My time with good ppl has been brief but precious moments that keep me moving forward hoping for more. Thank you for everything, Day.

You shine like a star You know who you are You're everything beautiful She's hot, hot like the sun The loneliest one Still everything beautiful Well I'll be goddamned You're standing at my door We stayed up in the city Until the stars lost the war So Friday night, holy ghost Take me to your level Show me the one I need the most I need the most I wish I knew you when I was young We could've got so high Now we're here it's been so long Two strangers in the bright lights Oh, I hope you don't mind We can share my mood Two strangers in the bright lights I wish I knew you... The fact that the singer said it’s open for anyone’s interpretation is awesome. Just started talking to my daughter that I never got to know for 20 years. It’s amazing!
I’ll never forget the moment where my close friends and I were sitting staring out into the city lights while this song was playing. We shared this silence that felt so profound and although no words were exchanged, we could all feel each other’s emotions. I know this is a more up beat song but every time I hear the chorus it reminds me of this moment and makes me want to cry. Not from sadness but just from the beauty in that moment. Seriously a great song and I know I’ll be coming back here to remind myself of that time.
Because it touches everything that is good about us... you see the old guys looking bad as if they are about to do something awful but it is made clear that back in the past and in present they are just basic rebel wannabees and in the meantime they think this whole interracial thing is boring.
Tarkus i think people are more comfortable with interracial couples, not 'bored'. maybe English isn't your first language, so i won't bash your adjectives. the old dudes were just reliving their youth and enjoying themselves-i don't think they were ever wannabes or rebels, just stupid kids having fun. the song definitely touches the nostalgia of the main couple, who probably liked each other a lot (and still do) but couldn't date back in the day. they're making up for lost time, and reminiscing how things might've been different if they could have dated without the social stigmas of the time.
It's not about her.... it's about finally finding who you really are and being comfortable with who you were and wishing you could tell your younger self that it's always been ok
okay, maybe it's me but I didn't get that from the song...I thought the song was about not being afraid to finally tell someone you love them...having a bit of regret...
This song was sent to me by a woman who I have fallen for. And we haven't even met yet. I live on the East Coast, she lives on the West Coast. Thank God for internet and cell phones and every way to talk to each other from coast to coast. Since talking to her, and falling for her, I've been diagnosed with two types of cancer. And yet, I want to go to CA to see her. I must!
@@tedhawver3564 Stay strong.. Cherish every moment with her.. Fly her to out to you, or get on a plane. Love is the only thing on this stupid planet worth a shit anyway.
It for some reason makes me tear up every time. I'm only 21 but I feel so damn old. Never connected with my generation so I can already feel that I'm gonna be a bitter lonely old man if I make it that far
Wow, I echo a lot of the sentiments others are saying below. I never heard this song until today. For the most part, I cannot STAND today's music. Here is a song that has a great singer, great instrument work, and is just a really good song. Since it seems this appeals to people from kids to 70s, the question is why are there not more songs like this?!
ToyKingWonder there are less songs like this one because most music today isn't targeted for people from the 70s. Music evolves and changes as time goes on and the music that people listened to and bought in the 70s isn't what people buy today. I'm not saying it's bad music, i think some of it is really good. It's just not what music has become. Think of how people who liked the music of the 30s would have felt during the 70s
Me, too, and I kind of like "moon" better, fits with the "high" theme and it's like they're just two people, alone and together in space, away from it all...
I heard this song and of course thought of all the people I wish I knew when I was young. Then I started to really think about the lyrics and I felt a sense that I was singing this song to myself. I wish I knew Me when I was young. I wish I could’ve been the person I am now when I was young. I wish I could’ve accepted myself for who I was when I was young (we could’ve got so high) This song goes out to all the young girls that are strangers to themselves. Get to know yourself. Share your mood. Cuz you’ll be in the bright lights someday and you’ll be confident with who you are. Get on it now. Time is precious
I can say I knew me when I was young, but very much appreciate your comment. The thing I wasn't able to put my finger on was the dichotomy of my personality though I could feel the shift between my heart and my intellect. I'm sure it would have made a difference if I could have found a way to use both at the same time, but we can't turn back time. Our world is now filled with young people asking the question, "who am I?". That is disturbing to me. We are who we are and if we think too much about it, then we are not.
Wow! Reading your comment made me realize so many things about myself ❤ thank you so much for it! Have had a hard time trying to accept myself for who I am since I have memory, your words warmed my heart and it definitely made me think about “time is precious” thanks! ❤️
I turn 18 next month, and everyday I wish I still knew my younger self, who has hid himself after all I have went through, behind a wall I can't get past.
For whatever the reason I don’t know this song made me cry my eyes out idk why maybe thinking about all those chances I had back when I was younger and never just asked them out…
Now THIS is how you make a music video! You have two lovers separated by time reuniting in their twilight years. But at the same time the phasing in and out of their younger self's remind us no matter how old you get, you are still young at heart but also carry your regrets from years past. The other classmates at the reunion show us that you never lose your sense of fun, the man spiking the punch like he still 16 is a really nice touch. I also love the effect at the beginning when the man sees his love for the first time at the dance and glides towards her as if on a cloud.
@@rossogden9920 - That sure is where it took me! At the start, when the man looked at his lost-love's photo, it took me right back to the late 60s, when, as I found out much later, a good friend from high school wanted to ask me to senior prom but was too afraid, because he was black and I was white. Unfortunately, he died young, so we never got our happy ending. I loved that the couple in the video did, as did all the other kids whose relationships were forbidden fruit back then.
Sean Battee I'm thankful for independent radio. I hear so much that I would never hear anywhere else and I hear it months before it becomes mainstream.
+Sharen Robinson I heard this for the first time this morning on one of the college radio stations. i hurried to shazaam it. College radio is my favorite source for fresh music. Such a great beat!
Just like the song everybody's changing by keane...it has like this maybe 60's feel to it but then it's also sad,you should check it out . This song right here reminds me of that type of happy but sad feeling too
It's sad that they didn't know each other when they were younger, but It is very possible and actually likely that being together when younger would've been bad since most younger relationships don't work out so it's happy because it's better to have met later in life but sad because of what could have been and then we go back to the beginning. Really it's such a great song.
I'm 58 years old and I love this song!! I love so many other songs the 'younger' people listen to as well. That's one of the cool things about having kids...... I hear the music they listen to and I love it!! Some people my age think I'm crazy but I don't think so and neither do my kids. The people who say that are just old fuddy-duddys lol.
Patricia I'm 1 week shy of 65 and this time last year I was posting this song on FB as my summer jam. I also bought tickets to see these guys in May in SF. Tried to see them last year but they were sold out!!!!!
If this song seems old, I suggest the following: Compare the chorus melody of this song to the chorus melody of "Beautiful Life" by Ace of Base. The parallels are striking...

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Dylan Thomas

After a few nights he played this song for me. I do wish I knew him when we were young. We might have made some big noise in the woods stomping down family trees together. You're everything beautiful
She's hot, hot like the sun
The loneliest one
Still everything beautiful
Well I'll be goddamned
You're standing at my door
We stayed up in the city
Until the stars lost the war
So Friday night, holy ghost
Take me to your level
Show me the one I need the most
I need the most
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, I hope you don't mind
We can share my mood
Two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you...
I wish I knew you...
Oh, I wish I knew you when I was young
Truth, it's all that you need
You bury that seed
It's everything beautiful
That sound comes from the underground
It's all inside you now
It's everything beautiful
But what are you, what are you, what are you
What are you running from?
Then, they got, they got, they got
They got you on the run?
So Friday night, holy ghost
Take me to your level
Show me the one I need the most
I need the most
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights

The Revivalist - Wish I knew you
The fact that the singer said it’s open for anyone’s interpretation is awesome. Just started talking to my daughter that I never got to know for 20 years. It’s amazing!
It sounds great. It has a 70s vibe but really timeless.

WHY am i so addicted to this song!?!
Alan Allos because it's really good
Alan Allos i keep replayin this song
I heard it for the first time yesterday and Im so addicted!! ☺
Love the 70s grooves!! Yall should listen to Romanticism by Retrofile ... has these disco vibes 🔥
it better be groovy
It's not about her.... it's about finally finding who you really are and being comfortable with who you were and wishing you could tell your younger self that it's always been ok
Hahaha, oh man
It was about her, but what she meant to you, not how superficial you felt.
okay, maybe it's me but I didn't get that from the song...I thought the song was about not being afraid to finally tell someone you love them...having a bit of regret...
They weren't "allowed" to be with each other as kids because of the times, wishing things could've been different.

use to play this song when i used to wake up and used to move my body in bed like a mad man. too good.
Yeah it’s in my head and I had no idea what it was
Wow, I echo a lot of the sentiments others are saying below. I never heard this song until today. For the most part, I cannot STAND today's music. Here is a song that has a great singer, great instrument work, and is just a really good song. Since it seems this appeals to people from kids to 70s, the question is why are there not more songs like this?!
ToyKingWonder check out the song, DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT by KING HARVEST. They changed the key and tempo but the melodies are verrry similar.
There's plenty of music like this
ToyKingWonder I recommend you listen to The Lumineers, Cage the Elephant, Foxygen, Modest Mouse, Hozier, The Black Keys and BØRNS
ToyKingWonder Listen to Chet Faker too, his song The Trouble With Us is pretty good
ToyKingWonder there are less songs like this one because most music today isn't targeted for people from the 70s. Music evolves and changes as time goes on and the music that people listened to and bought in the 70s isn't what people buy today. I'm not saying it's bad music, i think some of it is really good. It's just not what music has become. Think of how people who liked the music of the 30s would have felt during the 70s
What a great line "We could share my mood" I wish I had written it,
I thought he said at first..share my moon..
Me, too, and I kind of like "moon" better, fits with the "high" theme and it's like they're just two people, alone and together in space, away from it all...
Ronald Hopkins I thought it was share my moves but that's kinda gay
I thought he said moon as well. Lol
Ronald Hopkins you just did 😉
I heard this song and of course thought of all the people I wish I knew when I was young. Then I started to really think about the lyrics and I felt a sense that I was singing this song to myself. I wish I knew Me when I was young. I wish I could’ve been the person I am now when I was young. I wish I could’ve accepted myself for who I was when I was young (we could’ve got so high)
This song goes out to all the young girls that are strangers to themselves.

Si hermosa pase lo que pase a quien amaste con locura jamás lo dejaras de amar.......... Bogotá Colombia good look
I don't think they were ever lovers. It was 1965. Mixed race relationships weren't a thing back then. They most likely were 'wanna be' lovers.

Right? Same here. It's weird.
It's sad that they didn't know each other when they were younger, but It is very possible and actually likely that being together when younger would've been bad since most younger relationships don't work out so it's happy because it's better to have met later in life but sad because of what could have been and then we go back to the beginning. Really it's such a great song.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Especially now that I had come to find he had the same feelings and is in awe that I want to help him heal, and be a true friend. I pray he kicks the habits.:(
@@antoniusbritannia8217 It is a wonderful life
Not really, because when one is young for the most part one is still very immature.
Underrated !
Best song ever so if you don't like it then syrup and don't talk about it.
I worked on this production. The most fun I've ever had on set!
Yeah they are great guys
What was the budget?

Baby I love this🌋🌍💜💥🇱🇷🥁🙄💝🎉🏅🎃
GODDAMNIT WHO PUT THESE TEARS IN MY EYES
Truth. Buried at sea is all that you need. Everything's beautiful!
[Verse 1]
You shine like a star
You know who you are
You're everything beautiful
She's hot, hot like the sun
The loneliest one
Still everything beautiful
Well, I'll be goddamned
You're standing at my door
We stayed up in the city
Until the stars lost the war
So Friday night, Holy Ghost
Take me to your level
Show me the one I need the most
I need the most
[Chorus]
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here, it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, I hope you don't mind
We can share my mood, yeah
Two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you
I wish I knew you
Oh, I wish I knew you when I was young
[Verse 2]
Truth, it's all that you need
You bury that seed
It's everything beautiful
That sound comes from the underground
It's all inside you now
It's everything beautiful
But what you, what you, what you, what you running from?
And they got, they got, they got, they got you on the run
So Friday night, Holy Ghost
Take me to your level
Show me the one I need the most
I need the most
[Chorus]
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here, it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, and I hope you don't mind
We can share my mood, yeah
Two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you
I wish I knew you
Oh, I wish I knew you when I was young
[Bridge]
Maybe we can share my mood
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Maybe we can share my mood
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Maybe we can share my mood
Whoa, whoa, whoa
[Chorus]
I wish I knew you when I was young
We could've got so high
Now we're here, it's been so long
Two strangers in the bright lights
Oh, and I hope you don't mind
We can share my mood, yeah
Two strangers in the bright lights
I wish I knew you
I wish I knew you
Oh, I wish I knew you when I was young

As someone who's in their late 20s and single, this story is especially powerful to me. Thank you for sharing
