  • This video is a comprehensive look at the materials in Octane Render Engine 3.08. I talk about Mix Material, Sub Surface Scattering (SSS), Dirt node and many other powerful tools as well as Octane Node Workflow. This video will help you understand everything you need to know about materials in Octane for C4D.

    I've been recently getting into learning about Octane and C4D and have felt so overwhelmed by not understanding how the different nodes work, when to use them and why, etc. Thank you so much for this tutorial - this has been exactly what I've been looking for. If you ever did a more in depth course on this or something related to your texturing/rendering process, I'd absolutely pay for it. Thank you for the amazing content, really glad I found your channel! :)

    @nickfonk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah! Finally :) Thank you very much for this, this is so helpful! Now what i'd love to see, is one of your work, explained form A to Z, too much tutorials on the internet show you the final result but actually show how to do the first 50%. So beginners or intermediate still have no idea how to achieve a great great result. But for a start, i'm going to do 2L of coffee and learn nodes now.

    • @AndreyLebrov
      @AndreyLebrov  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, glad to hear your inspired to dive deep :) As for the tutorials... well, mostly they (and I) don't show it because it's the same work showed in the first 50% but stretched over several hours. Refining, adjusting things... There's no point recording it if you already showed and explained it. What might be hidden is post-production though. I'll do a video about that with some tricks ;) Thank you for the comment mate

    • @nickfonk
      @nickfonk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with your point of view, but for beginners it's a process with mysteries because we don't really know what we do and what's going to happen when we tweak. So seeing a pro along all that process would be crucial for me at least, because finally i'll get to understand and SEE how we get from meh to wow in a concrete example. And i know it's all about refining. But some folks need to know what to do to refine in the good direction! Maybe it would be a long and boring tuto, i give you that! :) Anyway, it's just a feedback of a person who wants to learn how to get better. And i already thank you for what you teach. Greetings from Canada my friend!

    Pretty Sure I will njoy the shared knowledge. Did not watched the tutorial yet but wanted to give quick response and be the first comment so ;d sorry. Wondering since your workhouse has invested so much in GPUs, what are the inner opinions about other GPU renderers like Redshift ?

    • @AndreyLebrov
      @AndreyLebrov  6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thank you for the question. While I think Redshift is more suitable for big productions and demanding scenes, Octane is faster and is physically correct (unbiased). All the advantages that competitors might have (Like AI denoiser for instance) will be implemented in Octane in upcoming releases.
      To be fair to Redshift and other engines, I haven't used them PROPERLY in the real production environment. I believe it's better to stick with one system, one workflow and improve yourself in it consistently, rather than jump around experimenting. We did have challenges with vRAM limits on a project involving tens of unique complex buildings, but it was solved by structured and planned optimisation. We've been able to render areas with all the plants, buildings, cars and people.
      Unless I see something truly revolutionary, we won't switch from Octane. The only Redshift benefit I see is no memory restrictions. Which is a temporary problem for Octane with fast-evolving GPU technologies :)
