  • San Diego officials hosted the third in a series of community workshops yesterday to gather input from residents and share information about the new $8.4 million in Ocean Beach Pier Renewal project. City staff, along with engineering and architectural consultants, introduced concepts that incorporated amenities previously prioritized by community members such as: how the pier meets the land, on-pier viewing areas and gathering spaces.
“After months of connecting with the community and learning more about what they want to see in a potential Ocean Beach Pier replacement, we are excited to share some of the possibilities,” said Strategic Capital Projects Assistant Director Elif Cetin. “This effort doesn’t stop here. We need San Diegans to let us know what they like and don’t like about these concepts, as their continued input will shape the final design concept that may end up becoming the next iconic structure in Ocean Beach.”
City officials said the final design concept could include components of all three concepts.

Fishing Fishing Fishing, that’s what the piers are for and that’s what it’s doing perfectly right now. Just keep it open and do upgrades

Exactly. Just make it safe. I don't get why they try to make simple utilitarian things into an art project.

It's SO embarrassing when they make futuristic looking crap that DOES NOT MATCH IT'S SURROUNDINGS OR HISTORY..!

I totally agree with you but at the same time, it’s a pier. Very simple architecture. How well could it match the surrounding buildings?

Not. Once you buy the property, the taxes are set at 2% of the purchase price. You dont inherit the previous owner's taxes. I know cuz i was an appraiser for the county assessor. But, things may have changed some since i retired in 2008. Kids can BUY their parents property and keep the lower tax rate. Did such with my daughter and her fam. Go check it out with local assessor's office. I'm sure you will receive a similar answer. I sort of keep an eye on it, as it was interesting work.

@@mrsteveinsandiego I have owned multiple properties here and taxes go up every year. To be fair one of the strengths of California are property taxes vs other states i.e. Texas and Maryland

I remember on the Left end of the fishing pier when I used to go lobster fishing the homeless would always hang out and one night when I was lobster fishing some drunken homeless guy peed all over my ropes. If San Diego wants to fix something they need to fix the homeless problem because it's getting worse every year.
