thank you so much for all this documentation. i’m about at this level and about to start outputting so your journey has been really informative. your accent is really solid now at 1500, inspirational!
I’m at about 525 hours. Not really MIA, cuz I started before I found Matt vs. Japan. I also ignore anki after the top 2500 words. And I don’t regret that haha. Having an iTalki conversation practice once a week really really motivates me to do all the reading and listening every day. With all the new stuff, you can at least get the passive listening in. Keep it going man, with the weight loss too. I believe in you.
Spanish native here acquiring english! , You have a really good accent and I understood almost everything about you talked, by the way, Ni yo se que es el subjuntivo D: , Mr.Salas es un gran youtuber gracias a él conocí más sobre el input comprensible. Keep going!
Wow I’m thinking about pushing forward to start REFOLDing Spanish as I’m taking Spanish for school and you look like another person from your first video a year ago aha
lmao thanks, you should definitely give it ago. I haven't been doing it consistently but I can still watch and enjoy dubbed content and native material. As long as your comforrtable with ambiguity you'll be alright. And by that I mean not understanding like half the plot. Its a skill that you have to get better at and improve. Eventually To the point where you can watch a 20 minute video not understand a single thing and still pay attention and be engaged.
@@spanishthroughimmersion6694 thank you! I’ve looked at the list before it’s a great resource. It helps to have someone on TH-cam talk about Spanish instead of Japanese for refold
Hey thnx for the video! You expressed in this video the feeling of spanish feeling like a chore or something to study and not something you can do to relax like you would an english youtube channel. With you being well over 1000 hours today, does it still feel like that? Do you enjoy the language enough to be abe to listen to it without it feeling like expending more energy to comprehend?
I would say that at this point. It feels very similar to listening to something in English. I have to spend a little more energy than English, but it is pretty negligible. But it still lacks the consistency of comprehension by a long shot.
@@spanishthroughimmersion6694 cool. I watched at double speed, so it wasn't a long watch. I'll probably make an update by the end the summer (roughly 3 year anniversary of French).
@@spanishthroughimmersion6694 No they're not I mean it's kinda cool that you keep track of your progress so you'll remember what it's like. I am an intermediate speaker of esperanto and I kinda forgot how it feels to be a komencanto ya know.
after you learn the alphabet how did you go about reading words in sentences? Did it just come to you naturually after learning the sounds of the letters and you could recognize the written words because you've heard them before? Sort of as an extensive type reading thing? Or did you SRS the words until you could build up a confident reading level then freely read things? I'm very curious about this because i had the opposite effect with spanish as i was very familiar with the written language and had the words popping in my head when i was doing dreaming spanish because of failed attempts to learn the language with duolingo/rosetta stone for years. Im learning Thai now and am getting close to an intermediate stage and wanna have a plan I guess so when I reach fluency I can go ahead and learn to read the language when im already speaking it to lock in that full range of fluency. I'd try to look else where but most immersion based methods having you either reading from the start or dont have you reading at all now a days. Just curious how you achieved to read, thanks and congratulations!
honestly I think I didn't have that much trouble since the alphabeto are quite similar. It only took a few days to maybe a week to get used to how things were spelled. And when I started reading I would get lost in the words a little bit if the text ran on for too long. But all that subsided fairly quickly since I had already built up a base of coomprehension and it was just Spanish but on paper. In my experience it feels a little awqward in the beginning but you get comfortable relatgively quickly. Now the fact Thai is a completely different alphabet means that it will take even more time but the fact you already have a solid base in the language means your not doing two things at the same time. Learning the language and learning the alphabet.
I have an app on my phone that when I am immersing I click record and when I take a break I click stop. I then put those hours into an Excel sheet at the end of the week. I talk about in my earlier videos.
Oh I love using Italki. I just don't feel as bad when butchering the language if I know im paying someone for their time and not wasting their time. Plus I have never been a fan of language exchanges. I like for us to spend the whole time in one language and not this awqward switch to one or the other.
I recommend you start with Dubbs and TH-cam vids for a while. So I started off with stuff like Kung Fu panda, Avatar the last airbender, Pokemon on Netflix and Black Clover. There is a Resource list in the Spanish Refold Discord Server that lists a lot of great beginner content that matches the subs. And youtube with stuff like beginner Spanish, Español con Juan, and Superholly.
A really really good one is "Dreaming Spanish" on TH-cam--tons of free comprehensible input videos from super beginner to advanced. Lots of topics and pretty entertaining. Formed the foundation of my immersion. Hope that helps :)
