Every year we produce 29 million tonnes of cotton which is the same as 29 t-shirts for everyone on earth. It’s the world’s most commonly used natural fibre and people like it because it’s light, durable and breathable.
If you have a look through your wardrobe you can be sure that something in there will at least partly be made of cotton.
Cotton is actually a plant, the bit we use to make fabric is a fluffy white fibres that surround the seed, it gets picked, the seeds are taken out and then it’s spun into a thread.
But while cotton is a natural fibre and doesn't cause the same plastic pollution problems as some man made fabrics, it comes with its own issues...
This week on the vlog we've teamed up with our friends at the soil association to investigate current cotton production and the benefits of making the switch to organic.
To find out more about the soil association head to their website. Soil Association Certification certifies both GOTS and OCS in the UK - and so you may spot the SA Organic symbol alongside when buying organic clothing. This is the UK’s most recognised organic logo - it’s on 70% of organic food, health and beauty, fashion and textile products in UK

Loved watching this. I run an independent business focussing on organic cotton clothing from newborn up to adults. It's so important to make people aware of the choices around cotton and other areas of the manufacturing process. Christina : )

Very good information, most people don’t know really how much organic cotton changes the situation. This is why my favorite independent artists to buy from use organic cotton, organic bamboo and organic hemp.

It would be great if you shared the studies that she talked about in the video. She says that organics use less water, she said that GMOs are not working and that the production of organics have bigger yields. A lot of statements that need scientific support. I hope she is right because it would be greath for the world, but that has to be proven. For now the least we can do is not buying cloth that we only use once a year.

BEWARE! Bhumi Organic Cotton puts the burden of returns on customers. It costs hundreds of dollars to return items that don't fit, etc if you live outside of Australia. Bhumi has all comments turned off on TH-cam. So there's no way to post my warning directly on their channel.

what is organic cotton??? Your answer is not relevant & satisfactory....

  • @pampoovey6722

And not a single word about the forced labour used to produce the cotton. Just water, GMs, pests, seeds, farmers.
If you aren't talking about forced labour then you are a complete hypocrite when you talk about organic cotton, making positive changes and being better for people.

Bit harsh mate, they had loads of useful information contained within the vid on organic cotton and why its important. Plus did touch on GOTs and Fairtrade and how they aim to make sure workers are treated fairly and paid a premium...
Not sure on how strict these companies are on implementing these regulations but props for trying to provide some useful info if you ask me

    • @HubbubFoundation

Hi, as an environmental organisation, we're careful to focus on the environmental sustainability of fashion where our knowledge sits. Though we do reference certifications like Fairtrade where there's more transparency and support for ethical production. The labour that goes into the fabrics created and the clothes we wear is a huge and important area that equally needs more awareness and action, and we fully support organisations like Fashion Revolution who are working towards this.

what are the %'s... big name techniques or legitimate? like when something is 1% different... big names will put the percentage of that 1% into a percentage. still not "lying" but it is... are you pushing that same agenda whether for better or 'worse'?
