Wow. I always thought this kind of thing would eventually be possible, but seeing this actually in action (and performed so slickly) is really something. Feeling very inspired.

I even got RX 7 for quite a long time and had no idea it can also be used that way. Mind blown! :-)

I'm just producing music but I find this very interesting, the more I know about the spectrogram the better mixes I make.I really like Insight 2 on 2D RX mode. Thanks for making these series!

This is absolutely crazy stuff. How is it humanly possible to sound edit a whole film?! Respect. I'm using RX for music production mainly but this is very useful information either way. Thanks!

Excellent presentation. In my experience, for removing transients like the knocks you can just use Spectral Repair Attenuate by itself in a single step. No need to use Declick at all.
While discussing treatment of .transients. The Attenuate function is also very useful to tame isolated too loud drum hits or individual claps that are much louder than overall applause. For these uses I set the Strength at 0.1 or 0.2 The attenuation is very transparent.

The overlap in dialogue is why you do ADR.
Of course time is the issue here too with Sundance...That's why you work to have time for that in pre-production.
ADR and Foley gives "Hollywood" movies their pristine look and sound. Currently going through Cinema Sounds from Mzed,
it's a LOT and a lot I already know, but have picked up a few nuggets like why matching a lav and a shotgun mic can a problem
especially if you want BOTH heard at the same time instead of switching and playing only ONE recording at a time.
And a space ship whoosh! XD

RX now has a debleed feature. Do you think it would have helped?

Great insight! Thank you for sharing this. Did you ever use the de-bleed module to help with cases of overlapping lavs?

Tim Atkins De-Bleed works best on stationary microphones.

Hi Tim, there was a bit too much content on both mics and de-bleed degraded her voice a bit to much for my taste. I do use de-bleed often though and it is a great tool, especially in conversational lav situations!

Thanks for the reply, David. That's good to know :) Appreciate the insight into your workflow on this movie.

For reducing unwanted sounds between harmonics, I find Gain reduction is generally more effective than Spectral Attenuation. For either one, it is important that post-treatment the treated areas are similar in sound level/visual appearance to the general background ambience. If it is too different, it will be audible.

17:54 I would think that selecting small parts of the man's laugh from the woman's recorded clip to delete wouldn't be as accurate as making and saving the selection of the man's laugh from his recorded clip and then overlaying that saved selection onto the woman's recorded clip, to delete his laugh almost entirely and much more accurately than the way you are demonstrating. I realize I am naive about all of the capabilities of this software, so I am wondering if this is even a possibility?
Basically, in other words, I am wondering if "izotope rx" has the capability to edit the spectrogram the way I might delete precise portions of a photo using advanced masking selection techniques in photoshop?
