Hey John, You dovetail the end cap due to the pressure created from the vise on that end of the bench. The dovetail shape resists that pressure, and the joint tightens when the vice is in use (at least, as far as I understand). Hope I’ve explained this clearly.
Who ever called you a smuck you doesnt know how to do wood working? One of my favorite youube carpenters right here ladies and gents. Leave the man alone and take your negative feedback to the mirror. Your doing great John, keep them videos coming.
I love it when people show their mistakes and explain how they fixed it. Means your a real human. And as a long time wood worker I love seeing tip and tricks the tape for the transferring marks was a new one for me, gonna use that in the future. When I built my Roubo split top bench I put in traditional square dog holes, it is the one thing I regret about my build. Really wish I had done round dog holes as almost all modern do hole products are for round holes. Oh well ya win some ya lose some. Another great build. Thanks for doing what ya do bro.
One idea I have come to appreciate is that sometimes a good woodworker is not someone who does not make mistakes but recovers well from when a mistake is made.
that is the purdiest bench ive ever seen, the exposed gears in the vice and the black frame are beautiful. Love the traditional clamping points too. Simplicity is cool
Yes, there IS: "Two Incredible Genius'". The Men are: "Andrew Klein" and "John Malecki"! Wow, they are good! And I have bought; a lot of Andrew's inventing; for Awesome things! May Jesus, bless them and theirs, always. Amen!
Hi John, love the bench. Please don't go QUIET, if we want prim, proper and quiet we can watch Rob Cosman. Love your channel and the way you explain everything.
Dude, just came across you today going down the rabbit hole of TH-cam, ive literally got hooked on your stuff, your comment about the British guy saying your too loud, dude with the stuff you make you be as loud as you like, I'm a carpenter who loves bespoke building and love that you show your builds with warts and all during the process, I know your pain on a few where I can see the hours you've put in only to screw up and start again. Keep doing what you do buddy
As a US Marine and part time woodworker I really appreciate your love for the military and woodworking. Any advice for putting a router table on the side of a table saw. I recently bought an old craftsman flex drive saw and i'm looking to put a router table on one side
I thank you for your service! The flag hangs to support hero’s like you! As far as the table saw wing, you can mount it like any router table top. Get a plate and route it in. I would buy a router table plan from someone to see how it works !
I’m a chap from the country ya’ll defected from and I think your shouty videos are jolly spiffing. I am also growing myself some whiskers that our Lord and Saviour Swanson may one day be proud of. Jolly good work old bean - do keep it up.
Truly stunning table, build, vices, etc etc. John you could easily have done this one into 3 or 4 episodes with how and what/why and etc. REALLY great video! I'm buying that drill mate right now. I'll be gettting me a couple of those vices eventually. Thanks!
John you asked what we wanted to see in your videos a while back and I said I wanted to see some tips on how to use chisels. And you did that! So thanks a bunch!
i feel like me and john have similar stlyes. "Oh, im gunna do this part of the project all by hand..." 10 minutes later, "that band saw sure looks useful over there"
I'm also British however, I prefer watching American woodworkers because they have more energy and better shops. Watching some English woodworkers is less exciting than watching paint dry. Keep up the good work - and be energetic :)
Very true. If I'm looking for entertainment, I look for American made videos. If I'm looking for informative, I tend to look for English made videos. Lol
The first thing I built when I got into woodworking was build my workbench. I agree, that should be your first project. I had to move, and my real estate agent got it, so it went to a good home, but I do miss it. So when I get another shop( A two car garage ) I will build a new one. Awesome bench, yes I am jealous.
So. I feel you pretty much "goofy bastard" your way through these videos into a fine woodworking result. I enjoy all your videos and energy. Plus relatability. I will watch all of them. Thank you.
Beautiful job, John! Looks really nice! 😃 Yeah, Andrew's great! He's vise is amazing! I only thing you need a bigger mallet. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there! 🖖😊
Is it possible for you to upload a video where you go trough the steps of the clean up of your shop? I dont know why but i'm kind of interested in seeing you clean up your shop because I ask myself how long you do that :)
Ppl will always have suggestions on how to do it differently but I say it's your project and your preference. Stick to your guns John 👊💪. Btw this bench is da bomb 🔥. Awesome geared vises.
I wanna meet you one day you make me in a better mood I suffer from many mental problems thank you for being you and making a great thing that you got going on
Hey John, I keep seeing you use the Milescraft drill kit, and went to purchase one for myself. (I don't yet have a drill press) The reviews on Amazon were not great. Lots of complaints of wobbling and lack of any sense of accuracy. Would you mind sharing a bit of your experience with it? I realize it will never replace a drill press. But for now, would it be a good way for me to get closer to 90 degrees when I need it? Thanks man! Great vid.
I only hope to learn a fraction of your skills. One thing I learned with the Ryoba ( I think thats what it called) is to watch the reflection on the blade, it will give you a great level.
Hey J, I like your channel I watch all the time. Great table and woodwork. You really inspire me to do woodworking too. It's great that you show your assist because everyone else don't show that(glimps) of them. Or not at all. It pisses me off. They try make it seem like they do everything by themselves? They suck!!!
ok. I've been watching a lot of your videos. Your editor does a fantastic job of keeping the videos fun and entertaining. You have a very nice and clean shop for what yall do. Hopefully I can save money and ask you to do a project for me. I'm disabled and have issues with lifting even a little amount of weight. Please keep them coming...You and your team do a great job! thank you!

Awesome build man, thanks for showing off the vises and dogs, hope that bench serves you well for many years.
Me 2 my dude! Thank you!
Amen, amen and AMEN!❤
That drill mate is legit. Need that in my life for sure
Killer bench John. Unfortunately it doesn't look right in your shop. I will email you address where you can ship it to dispose it.
wait that's what i did
I hope that by "dispose" you meant "give to someone where it would look right."
Michael Bujaki nonono hes gonna burn the bitch. its that awesome of a bench. it cant stay in the world the world isnt ready yet
@@michaelbujaki2462 Surely that wasn't the joke.

Agreed

Hey uncle cy! Big fan, I've watched all your videos.
that is the purdiest bench ive ever seen, the exposed gears in the vice and the black frame are beautiful. Love the traditional clamping points too. Simplicity is cool
I was horror struck when you painted the base black. But when it all came together it made so much sense. Love what you do.
If (when) I win the lottery, I'm gonna have a shop like this. I won't be able to do HALF the crazy shit John does, but I'll have the shop, dammit.
I’ll be happy with his old bench.
You should look at the shop tour for Fleets Wood Shop. Craziest most well thought out wood shop on TH-cam.
@@MustPassTruck You weren't kidding! I'm gonna need a bigger lottery...
The clamp section alone - that was impressive

Back to the basics, traditional woodworking and joinery executed perfectly 🔥
Those vices are super cool. Glad you painted the legs black for contrast too. Amazing work bench.

Work bench? That's some nice oak....
Who among us can truly appreciate the sheer massive
Presence this would have in a mere mortal's shop?
Two words...Epic Awesomeness!
Ooooo the twin turbo vise. I can’t wait to buy a house and build a shop so I can get one of those videos from Andrew.
Thank you for finally posting this bench build!! I was waiting for it! Got the same vise coming myself!!
That bench really ties the room together!!!
Epic table deserves the epic music at the end! Great video sir!
Thanks Francesco !
Great vid. I love seeing how people make their own workbenches.
Awesome bench! The black legs really make it! Thanks!
Hey I'm British and I like it when you're loud, in fact I expect it. Great job on the bench man!
Can we please get a "getting squirrelly" shirt or sticker or something!!
They’re coming soon!!
Hooray! I'm ready to buy this one as soon as it's available!
I agree with Rami

Dont u mean letuspray?
That is an amazing bench you built. No way could I build one but it was great watching you build it. Love the gears for the vice.

The caps help keep the table from cupping because of the grain orientation
zander chiasson That’s true if you have face grain oriented upwards but not so much for edge grain.
I think if “they” made a film about him the perfect person would be Chris Pratt. Love watching this guy so much.
Or Kevin James with that mall cop mustache hahahaha!
