Toyota discontinued the superchargers due to lack of sales. Only a small handful of buyers were not enough to justify the cost of developing and producing the lineup of superchargers

By the end of the night I was able to put down a 14.59 run in 4hi. I can’t recall the trap speed. I ran my truck(red one) across a scale a couple months later with just me in it an weighed in at 5960lbs to answer all your weight questions. The large tires and 4wd runs really started to kill my top end power. And yes this was my first time racing on a track so plenty of driver error and nerves I’ll be the first to say that! lol
People need to understand that they’re a mile above sea level. You give up 3ish% of your HP per 1000+ above sea level. These would probably run high 16’s bone stock up there. 2 seconds quicker in the 1/4 is HUGE.
My 17 Tundra sucks! Going back to Ford. My older F150 5.0 was wayyyy more reliable. Sorry guys/gals. Have you seen what the 5.0 supercharged Ford does? Low 12s.
Fernando Cardenas - I agree, my Tundra was the same. I used it very heavy pulling a 7,000 lb trailer in some severe off road conditions. Two transmissions failed and Toyota told me that I would have to stop using the Tundra off-road with the trailer. My 2011 F150 pulled the same trailer for longer with no issues. I actually loved the Tundra except for the fuel mileage. I knew it wouldn’t be good on gas.
It’s hard to believe the altitude takes away more than the supercharger adds. My ‘07- 14.2@99, it’s a stock double cab 2wd. I’d love to see the same trucks at a lower altitude just to see if there’s not something else going on here.
The TRD Supercharger was discontinued for several reasons, I did NOT get one due to the fact that zero modifications to my transmission were to be done...its factory build for the stock specs...NOT for the added juice of a Supercharger and the transmission would be burned up in one or more ways.
I'm really confused I have a 2012 tundra crewmax with the trd supercharger intake and full trd exhaust. Have it tuned with the bully dog tuner set on performance and trail sensitivity it runs 13.2 on 33s toyo A/T and a 13 on nitto 420v street radials. Why are these tundras so slow??
Motor trend tested this trucks single cab version at sea level in 2008. The best 0-60 was 4.4 seconds and best quart mile time was 13 flat. That’s faster then a 370z and on par with a 5.0 mustang before the 10 speed and bump in power.
Perhaps he meant 0-100. The lightest 5.7 supercharged Tundras with no additional modifications see 0-100 as low as 11 seconds Vs 14 and change. I guess that is only 3+ seconds but it's quite noticeable.
I think the altitude has something to do with the time slips. Bottom line, it's a truck. With all terrain tires. Hardly a good formula for drag racing.
Elevation is legit. At sea level I can actually keep my Ecoboost from making any boost daily driving it around town. The 1 week I spent over 5000ft-7000ft altitude that Ecoboost was building boost just to move itself. I estimated I was down almost 20% power. Car was constantly needing to make boost, it was the weirdest thing.
Pleasant Collision Motorsports thats what i was gonna say. You got a 15 the first time and think you can shave a whole second off your time the next time?... not even if there was nobody driving that truck could you save enough weight to make up a whole second
It's not like they're talking 12 or even 13 second passes. There is no reason why a 500 horsepower truck can't hit a measly 14 second and trap at least a 95-100. Someone that knows what they're doing could have ran those trucks deep into 14s and maybe even a 13.9
Alright in my opinion those times could have been improved significantly with an actual launch off the line. I own a first gen tundra, but also with a supercharger & tune ( and CAI & straight pipe). While my truck is a lot lighter compared to these newer gen tundras, first gens like mine came with the 4.7 liter and about 100 less hp stock. But the few times I took it to the drag strip the fastest time was a 14.2 sec. with a 3 in lift and 33’s. But I actually launched it off the line. The second run they had it looked as though they waited till the lift turned to even touch the gas instead of trying to brake boost it. Idk my opinion they could’ve ran a faster time but that’s just me
I can't convince my wife I need this for my 2014 tundra... Im keeping the truck for at least 10 more years. I only have 29k on it now. I have a short commute to work.
completely disable the tracron control by having the key off hold down the t/c button before turning the key then keep holding and turn the keep to ACC while still holding the t/c button for 3 seconds then start the truck and it will be completely disabled unlike the half disabled with the button
The base F150 2.7 was way faster to 60 no? I’m guessing weight, those tires and lack of drag racing experience kept this 550hp truck from the low 14’s. Don’t forget the altitude too I guess. Practice and some proper tires would make a big difference I think
Jack-He is at the same elevation. Just check out the other FLT videos....all done in thin air in FLT's stomping grounds. The stock F-150 3.5EB and 2.7EB were both quicker.
When TFL tested the red Tundra prior to tires and a tune, it ran a 6.60 0-60 with much higher mileage on the odo than the F150s. The 2.7 ran 6.9 and the 3.5 ran 6.64 from the videos I see. The F-150s also has a 700-800 pound weight advantage over these Tundra's also, not just tires being a factor.
My little stock f150 2.7 with 500 lbs in the bed does 0 to 60 in 6.6 all day without a 4wd launch.. and it does 14s all day Idk why people would buy a supercharge tundra sounds pretty slow..... and I'm not far from Morrison co
That supercharged engine was wicked. Too bad they killed it off. I seriously wish Toyota made a right-hand drive version of the Tundra. I need a full sized truck for a rescue vehicle for use in Kenya where my (Kenyan) wife and I are moving to start a rescue home. No manufacturer in the world makes a full sized truck in right-hand drive.
papa 13. Lv raiders Yeah, the problem I've run into, though, is that Kenya laws won't allow a LHD vehicle or even a converted one. Toyota reliability is amazing, which is why I looked into them but It has to be RHD from the factory to enter the country. I have a 2016 Ford F150 Lariat Sport 4x4 with the Ecoboost 3.5, but it can't go with me. I thought for sure that Toyota would have a full sized truck there, but no luck. Then, I find out no manufacturer makes one RHD.
Metalbass79 that's messed up it's also gonna be hard too leave that 150 behind just might have too go smaller with Toyota from out there even though it definitely wouldn't compare too that 150 or a tundra.
papa 13. Lv raiders Yeah. It's gonna drive me nuts to sell this thing but we are selling most of everything in order to be set up there financially. The thought of downsizing to a ranger just doesn't sit right with me. Plus, I need the bigger truck to be able to hold things like food for Orphans.
nick logan the need to turn traction control off too. If you ever drive a tundra turn it off and back on and its crazy how much power it kills, it even says it in the manual it kills power till 60mph
nick logan more than likely, my non supercharged tundra with exhaust cold air intake and throttle body spacer runs a 6.5 sec zero to sixty. Im only at 1000 feet above sea level though
I never knew they discontinued the TRD supercharger. I was going to buy another tundra just so I could add the trd. Guess I will be buying a RAM instead. The one issue with the TRD system was they didn't incorporate colder plugs which caused issues in the long term
I had a tundra they are very fast they come with a 430 rear in them. This is the elevation that is killing it. Seen them run in the 13s and high 12s. Insane what elevation can do to a gas motor. This is why diesels shine. Love my cummins and it’s fast.
2001 Camry 270000 miles and counting on the original clutch. 2011 fj cruiser 91000 miles no isssues. Just bought a 2018 sequoia trd sport... excellent vehicles.
2006 Toyota Sienna 336k miles. Sold iibut still see it running around town. 2009 Lexus RX 350 currently 258k miles. Love the reliability and dependability. Boring, no drama that's what I like. My friend has had 2 Ford's broke down and is on his third. Doesn't learn. Another has a Ford broke down as well and another co-worker with a Ram. All in the shop one time or another. Not the kind of drama I'm looking for. I like boring & dependable.
2017 2.7 EcoBoost f150 low 14s stock 0-60 6 second. Love the supercharged v8 sound, but much more potential than that. I wish automakers would twin Turbo the v8 trucks. Think what the coyote twin Turbo and 5.3 LS twin Turbo could put down power and sound wise.
jldude84 I’m not a Toyota guy, but I’ve driven my lbz through those Colorado mountains a couple times and was shocked with how much power the altitude stole from it
jldude84 serious question not trying to start anything. Wouldn't a turbo engine obviously be less effected by altitude given a turbos ability to have variable boost pressures, while supercharged(pully unchanged) and N/A would limited by altitude more. I've ran 3mph faster in an 11 sec c5z n/a going from west Texas to Ennis. Only a 2000ft difference.

But the few times I took it to the drag strip the fastest time was a 14.2 sec. with a 3 in lift and 33’s. But I actually launched it off the line. The second run they had it looked as though they waited till the lift turned to even touch the gas instead of trying to brake boost it. Idk my opinion they could’ve ran a faster time but that’s just me
they are 5 thousand feet above sea level thats why
I can't convince my wife I need this for my 2014 tundra... Im keeping the truck for at least 10 more years. I only have 29k on it now. I have a short commute to work.
My 02 Harley F150 with a lower pulley ran 12.97 @ 105. At near sea level of course. I wonder what type of altitude they ran at.
Just over a mile
Thanks for sharing this , I'll be on the lookout for the lady driving the blue Tundra at the next red light. Have a great day 😎
Awesome video guys maybe you can compare the magnuson supercharger to the TRD supercharger next
I believe there the same brother, I think magnuson makes the Trd charger
That's painfully slow! The V-6 F-150 would urinate upon these times!
Trucks aren't race cars
Put 20,000 lbs behind it and climb a 6% grade in 110° weather and see how it does
Smoke? Lol. How about coming down in those numbers? Yikes.
No super duty
completely disable the tracron control by having the key off hold down the t/c button before turning the key then keep holding and turn the keep to ACC while still holding the t/c button for 3 seconds then start the truck and it will be completely disabled unlike the half disabled with the button
Anybody recognize that the track is where Kyle from boosted Boiz goes to
The base F150 2.7 was way faster to 60 no? I’m guessing weight, those tires and lack of drag racing experience kept this 550hp truck from the low 14’s. Don’t forget the altitude too I guess. Practice and some proper tires would make a big difference I think
Are you at elevation? If not then it's not apples to apples comparison.
My 3.5 Ecoboost with a tune does it in 4.65 seconds.
Put an Pedal Commander on both tundra. You'll love the pedal increases.
Tons of fun!! Fundra!!
“I told you there is nothing to worry about.” And he looked worried at the beginning.😂
New Tundra with simple bolt ons beats it.
Ben those tires & Amy was that some nasty transmission shudder?
Truck is a Beast
5:50 that look on your face when you already know you’ve lost.
Metalbass79 u can super charge any 5.7 tundra just buy a after market supercharger but good luck with moving the steering wheel & pedals.✌
Chevrolet is now selling their pickups in right hand drive including the 2500 HD is Australia and New Zealand
It was the tires, but at least a Tundra won.
I'd like to see a 4 Hi launched run now....
nick logan the need to turn traction control off too. If you ever drive a tundra turn it off and back on and its crazy how much power it kills, it even says it in the manual it kills power till 60mph
Noah Melton I bet it take like 1 sec off their ET
nick logan more than likely, my non supercharged tundra with exhaust cold air intake and throttle body spacer runs a 6.5 sec zero to sixty. Im only at 1000 feet above sea level though
Did you race with the tow haul button pushed?
Gearing....taller tires on the slow Tundra
Can someone write the times down so i dont have to watch 8min video for a 13 second result
Bet you're used to commenting this on Audi videos. Always impatient for super slow runs.
There good trucks I own a 2003. I love it
With the tow/hall mode on on my tundra it's a little over 4 seconds from 0 to 60 no need for a super charger lol
you guys should get that 2009 toyota tundra supercharger that does a 4.9 well that is what the internet says
ET has nothing to do with reaction time ..... they could sit for 10 seconds and wouldn't run a 24 smh
What’s the axle ratio on each? That makes a gigantic difference on trucks especially
Each truck has the stock 4.30 LSD rear. It’s not a posi.
I've seen LOTS of trucks with bully dogs actually lose power on the lowest tune
5:48 well damn it I F-ed up
I never knew they discontinued the TRD supercharger. I was going to buy another tundra just so I could add the trd. Guess I will be buying a RAM instead.
The one issue with the TRD system was they didn't incorporate colder plugs which caused issues in the long term
Tony Hightower Magnuson took over sales. go to their website, they're the exact same as the trd ones
"I told you there was nothing to be worried about "...dude looked worried lol
The 07 meats slowed it down, but don't take Ol fred's word, check with Whatsyurbeef.
The 300 lb driver couldn’t have helped any
I had a tundra they are very fast they come with a 430 rear in them. This is the elevation that is killing it. Seen them run in the 13s and high 12s. Insane what elevation can do to a gas motor. This is why diesels shine. Love my cummins and it’s fast.
The Tow mirrors slowed him down😂😂😂
High elevation? I’ve seen stock tundras hot mid 13s.
It had to be the tires. She’s running all seasons and he’s running all terrains.
You can even get that kit no more last time I looked into it there was one left that was like 3 or 4 years ago
They don't want to mess around a EcoBoost whether the 5.7 is supercharged or not specifically a high output EcoBoost or supercharged coyote
Clearly even supercharged tundra v8 is slower than 2.7 f150 exoboost
Lukas Zuryk , faster than eccobost th-cam.com/video/zERBbv_VHhs/w-d-xo.html
Same elevation? No tundra will win
there are plenty of tundras running 11 sec 1/4 mile here's one: th-cam.com/video/kiSrrmN9Bs0/w-d-xo.html&frags=pl%2Cwn
Lukas Zuryk you have to realize that the tundra is 11 years old vs 2018 it come so close that tell you that 5.7 is bullet proof.
Lukas Zuryk let wait 10 years to see if 2.7 can up like the tundra
What kind of wheels did the red tundra have ?
Awesome video! Now onto supercharged ram 1500’s with the 5.7?!?!?!?!?!
Then compare the two trucks in an mpg loop and 0-60 showdown?!?!?!?!??
2017 2.7 EcoBoost f150 low 14s stock 0-60 6 second. Love the supercharged v8 sound, but much more potential than that. I wish automakers would twin Turbo the v8 trucks. Think what the coyote twin Turbo and 5.3 LS twin Turbo could put down power and sound wise.
All the haters have to realize the elevation these trucks are running at
SAME ELEVATION 2012 F150 ECOBOOST Fx2 Fully loaded 3.15
*Best quarter mile* Stock 14.53 *Tuned 13.28* ,TOYOTA SUCKS .RICE BURNER
steve hasher how long will that truck last?
sean peterson these engines havent been out for too long but many have over 200k miles. Some with over 300k.
jldude84 I’m not a Toyota guy, but I’ve driven my lbz through those Colorado mountains a couple times and was shocked with how much power the altitude stole from it
jldude84 serious question not trying to start anything. Only a 2000ft difference.
where did he get those wheels???? those are the exact style i want for my tundra !!!
mario took me months to find them and I searched EVERYWHERE! And by accident I came across them at discount tire.
Oh yah bby toyota king
