  • "Gidget”, Frankie and Annette beach party epics. and Hitchcock psychological suspense thrillers such as “Spellbound” and “Marnie” are given a shotgun marriage. Chicklet Forrest, a teenage tomboy, desperately wants to be part of the surf crowd on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities.
Charles Busch is the author and star of such plays as THE DIVINE SISTER, THE LADY IN QUESTION, RED SCARE ON SUNSET, and VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM, which ran five years and is one of the longest running plays in Off-Broadway history. His play THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST'S WIFE ran for 777 performances on Broadway and won Mr. Busch the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, PSYCHO BEACH PARTY and DIE, MOMMIE, DIE!, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright. Mr. Busch made his directorial debut with the film "A Very Serious Person", which premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won an honorable mention. He is also the subject of the documentary film "The Lady in Question is Charles Busch". His many plays are published by Samuel French.

I saw the movie, and I was amazed at how well these two disparate genres actually went together, and how well they threw each other's weirdnesses (AND each other's strengths) into sharp relief. It's hilarious, but it's also well plotted and actually hangs together as a story. I think it's kind of genius.

@@perriephillips1549 - Yes, I've seen that, too! But I didn't know about the AFV cameo, thanks!

Loved that movie. Have it on DVD and recently watched in on Tubi. Charles as the detective is my favorite character of the bunch. I'd say even the best drag queen ever.

Delightful. Charles Busch is not only a wonderful playwright but a wonderful raconteur.

I actually saw “ PSYCHO BEACH PARTY” , years ago, in the West Village.
My friend Robert Carey was in it, & he invited me.
    Great fun 👋🏼
