- Today we talk about the tour jeté or jeté en tournant. This is a very popular grand allegro step in ballet and many dancers struggle with it. I break down the step and we talk about the upper body, proper form, and some tricks to get you to jump higher. Hope this helps you guys!

My teacher’s always says my entrelace needs a lot of improvement, and after practicing with some of your tips, my teacher last week was like, “Your entrelace improved!” Thanks so much!! :)
I was just reminiscing about my old ballet classes and remembering how much I struggled with this. Watched the video and all the lightbulbs came on. My teacher had conveyed the "it's not ronde de jambe" so I was doing the flat turn but I simply couldn't make it look graceful, quick, or fluid. The coordination of the arms upward and movement of the shoulders in particular were such helpful tips. Your students are so lucky to have such an insightful teacher! Thank you for clearing up this mystery after all these years.

Here I am at 43 wanting to get up and try this again after 25 years and thinking there's no way my body would cooperate - what an inspiration you are! I would love to dance again just for the pure joy of it and I am so happy to hear that I might not have missed the chance.

Thank you so much, I didn't realize I was swinging my leg around and collapsing my upper body on the landing, I have always had a hard time getting the proper position. Seeing the difference really helps.
Great video! I would love a video about flic flac, and also a video discussing how to stay lifted through pointe shoes especially during long combinations en releve. I really like the right/wrong demonstrations in these lessons. Thanks!

Oh yes, definitely flic flac! I swear when I learned them as a kid it was something we just did en face, but now we only ever do them en tournant and I feel like I just look like I'm paddling around!
What is flic flac?
I danced years ago and, probably was taught, but that was over 40 years ago!!
Thanks Kathryn..this is the only instruction that i understand, as a teacher I know how it feels to provide an instruction to a beginner and ending up getting no response at all. Your explanation is very clear .

Grand battement, grand battement was exactly how my teacher taught it to me and I can't get those words out of my head when I'm doing one!! I love these videos Katie and I can't wait to get back to dancing soon when I move house!

I just went to the park across the street to practice. I can get the foot coordination. Now I have to work on the arms... the grand battement, the arabesque, uh - my upper body (big time) - ok, that's enough to get started. And thanks as always for the wonderful tips & tricks!!

This is my hardest step thank you SO MUCH !!
Grande here ehtrelece should peak at second position 90 degrees with arms in high fifth. Then the underneath leg reaches for a grande battlement back. I don't know if sab skips second , but the beauty of the step comes from the peak in second , mary

Hi Kathryn! I've been zooming around your basics videos as I'm getting back into ballet after a *cough* 25yearabsence *cough* and I would love it if you could add to that collection too - maybe talking about correct foot placement for wraps and also breathing whilst dancing? I love the fact that you do make videos for all stages. I'm at that awkward re-leaning stage where my mind remembers steps but my body really doesn't :P

Right now in my adult intermediate class my ballet teacher is focusing on one grand allegro step at a time. Right now we are focusing on saut de basque. Could you please do a technique tips on this jump? I find it very hard to coordinate the legs and I tend to end up landing in an awkward position because I don't hit the correct position in the air.

I used to be so good at tour jete but we started doing them with a chassé backwards and now I can’t do them, I keep falling over or just spinning around and landing on the wrong leg.

i'm nice and stressed because my school forces you to take dance, and i hate it, and we got tested on this recently and i did a good job failing even though i tried my best and i just fucking hate it so much, i'm not made out for it and i'm pissed that my school forces me to do it and i just feel like everyone is judging me on it, and i just wanna cry i hate dance especially ballet so much.

Omg guess what..... I got clara in the nutcracker and arabian leader and dew drop/sugar plum fairy in waltz of the flowers and some solos and im in snow as clara dancing with the snow queen and under studying snow queen. ahhhhhhh
