    I have bought a Forekaster to use in the back of my XC full suspended bike. At the moment I am using an Ardent 29x2.25 front and an Ikon 29x2.20 back. I am gonna replace the Ikon with the Forekaster 29x2.20 because I am searching for something more grippy on mud/loose over hard conditions and every day use. hope that suits it. 👍

    I just bought a Forekaster to use it in the front wheel. Until now my setup is Rekon Race front and rear and Im ok with it, very very fast but knowing that it has it's limits on technical or wet terrain, so that's why I upgraded the front, so I can have more grip and confidence when comfronting more rugged or wet trails. Im really looking forward trying the Forekaster!

    Forekaster is the best! Run it up front with a 2.35 ardent race out back, great combo for the steep trails I have easy access too. Find the majority of other maxxis xc tires really hold the forekaster back because they don't have enough volume or braking traction. AR side knobs also pair extremely well with it. The 2.25 rekon is also a decent match braking wise, but the side knobs let go a hair too soon for really pushing fast, steep corners. For more full on XC race speed I usually run rekon front, aspen rear, both 2.25.

    I have run the Forekaster 2.35 in 27.5 and in 29er. IMO it's not a great tyre for wet conditions on the front. There's no hard, square edge like you see on the likes of the DHF / R and Dissector and High Roller II for example. I think it does best in dry loose over hard conditions. I know that's not what Maxxis says but that's my experience having run them for over three years. Definitely a good rear tyre for most conditions though. If you want a good front tyre for wet conditions where the tyre can bite into the surface, try a Shorty. A good dry combo I found was 2.35 Forekaster front and 2.2 Ardent Race rear. 2.3 Shorty front and 2.35 Forekaster rear is a good wet combo and the front Shorty does better in the dry than you'd think, especially on loose over hard.

      @@LoveMTB Rekon Race is heavier than the Aspen which has a surprising amount of grip and clears moist soil better in my experience. I have been running Aspens front and rear for XC racing for the last 4 seasons. Cornering would wash out immediately in damp florida dirt or over hard pack. Ran a magic mary in the front and it was so bad it was like riding the front brake. I love light stuff but i dont play with tires. Too dangerous. I value my face lol. Im 6f2 about 220 lbs. Ended up ripping the tcs light right off the front rim with a off line landing. I like to get routy and take a few feet of air. Is there is any weakness in the tire. It will be exposed on the landing. For me. The weight saving wasn't worth the ease of pedaling.

    This just popped in my feed. Great job on the channel, as usual! I run Forecasters on the back with Cushcore. They're fast rolling with enough traction to get the job done on what I call "Shore Style XC" out here on the west coast, which is basically 80% of everything in BC. Since many more aggressive tires for the front are pushing the weight barrier past 950g, I'm still searching for a new ideal front tire that weighs what Nobby Nics used to weigh at sub-800 grams.

  • @SobanBhatti

    I really like the tire for wet conditions. It usually stays on my spare front wheel in case I need it on short notice. I used it to ride wet 3 stage and it was great considering how rocky the trails are. Also used it for one OCUP race at Port Hope and it didn't slow me down. In dry hardpack conditions I still prefer the Ikon for predictability. When pushing it in dry conditions I find it suddenly gives out probably because of the tall knobs folding.

  • @scottmorton21
    @scottmorton21 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I found it to be an OK tire for general trail riding in dry conditions. I haven't used it in wet so I don't know how it handles there. For trails that are more XC or flow oriented with small to medium elevation gains the Forekaster is just OK in my opinion. To me, it doesn't feel as confident in the corners as a DHF but it does take a lot less to get it rolling on the climbs. And it does soak up the smaller bumps better given the same psi. Tires are always a trade off. Because I ride in the mountains and also in some relatively flat locations, I bought another set of rims and tires and swap them out depending on the trails I'm going to. For XC style trails or just loafing around, I run the Forekaster on the front and Recon Race on the back. For more aggressive riding on downhill style trails, I run a DHF on the front and the Aggressor on the back. Way better traction and cornering confidence than the XC setup but also 1.6 pounds heaver and harder to climb with. I would like to try the High Roller II next for the XC setup as they look to be a good compromise between weight, rolling resistance and traction compared to my XC setup. I'm not real happy with the Recon Race on the rear since it doesn't have the braking traction I would like. But at least it does let me practice my drifting in the corners!

    • @scottmorton21
      @scottmorton21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't been mountain biking very long (about two years) so I haven't been able to try other tires. The regular Recon looks like it would have more grip since the knobs are taller in the center, although it looks like it might still be a bit short for the more aggressive trails I ride. I am considering it for the rear when it's time to replace the Recon Race in my XC setup. I might also go with the Forekaster in back and a High Roller II in front. I feel that the Forekaster has more traction in the kitty litter then the Recon Race. I deal with a lot of hard pack with tons of kitty litter and sand on my trails so traction is sometimes hard to find even with the DHF. Here's an example XC trail that I ride: th-cam.com/video/H0lyn9a4UVM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ScottMorton
      The Dissector in front looks good to me as well. I definitely want to consider it for the front on my downhill setup but I am reluctant to add it to my XC setup since it's a bit more on the aggressive side for XC. Although, if I only had one set of wheels, I would give it a try. The Dissector and Recon combo you mention sounds like a great setup and perhaps the best compromise for both XC and downhill trails. The Dissector would be a bit on the aggressive side for XC while the Recon would be a bit on the slippery side for downhill. But it is still nothing that you couldn't get use to and still provide enough traction for almost anything you would ride!

    • @Monkeyseemonkey79
      @Monkeyseemonkey79 ปีที่แล้ว

      After testing both, on my downcountry bike I prefer a DHR 2 up front, with an Aggressor on the rear. The DHF is too slow rolling and heavy, and it gets sketchy when you lean the bike. The DHR is faster rolling and I prefer the cornering feel thanks to the transition knobs.

      A friend told me that on wet/mud Ardent slide more than Ardent Race, wonder if Forekaster will slide too (because of the big spacing between knobs (and if it is more likely to puncture)

    • @robertcis4531
      @robertcis4531 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is now kinda old to argue but;
      I had Ardent on rear and then i switched to ardent race. Not that ardent race has better rolling, but also it has beter climbing on wet and even light mud, and overall grip is better. Forekaster is good for wet, but not in soft wet and mud. When you go faster or downhill on muddy trail it is posible to loose traction and slip to side when going straight or light cornering.

  • @Gransport1965

    I find Forekaster very squimy and bouncy, probably due to the 120 tpi casing. I prefer Rekon as a fast rear tire, it feels firmer. Rekon also offers a softer compound that gives more grip rear for climbing wet rocks.
