Stirring, uplifting, beautiful and epic! Though all art forms should be able to express the full gamut of human emotion and experience, ultimately, I feel, it should, in some way, elevate the human sprit. It's the very concept behind Tannhäuser, the Minnesänger (the poet), who spent his life with Venus in the Venusberg (Heaven), which was considered a blasphemous act. A pious woman named Elisabeth tried to rescue him, but God had passed over the poet when he'd apportioned the Earth to those of various callings, denying the poet a normal life. So wrote a German poet at the turn of the 19th century; in recompense, God allowed the poet to sit at his side in Paradise.
