- A quick look at my recent purchase. A Savage Arms Cabelas exclusive Model 12FV Varmint Bolt-Action Rifle. Seems to be a great gun for the price. Mine is in .22-250, also available in .223 Rem, .204 Ruger, and .308. Thinking I should have picked up a few more in different calibers...
This is a great starter rifle. You can really build a nice rifle around that barrel and action. If you do not mind the extra weight take a look at the Boyd's stock .. I purchased a ATone.
Threw a nice Docter scope on it.
Just found one. So happy I got it in 204 Ruger . Very excited !
to unload do you have run it thru the chamber or is there a drop plate, didnt see one in video
Your Savage Varmint rifle is a step up from my Savage Axis Gen 2, 22-250 but can definitely assert it is a tack driver as well.
I have 5 Savage rifles and love each and every one of them. All nail drivers. People need to give Savage a great chance. I would put mine up beside any other manufacturer and compete. Great choice in my opinion.
myself bought one in 308 win you will not not be disappointed great rifle
Picked one up in .223 on sale for $320. The employee at Cabela's also conveniently dropped the box that the vortex crossfire ii 6-18x44 I purchased with it was in so I got it at a big discount. With the fiocchi 62gr fmj load mine will consistently shoot under an inch a 100 yards. I feel like it is an outstanding rifle for the money.
Feb 10, 2017 We have the same Cabela"s sale paper down here in Texas. Only problem is all the Savage 12FV"s are on back order. I have a .223 Rem 12 FV on order. Can't wait to try it out.
diesel pete208 Awesome! Glad to hear they are on sale in Texas too. I love Texas, great gun culture there and great barbecue! Let me know how you like the gun when you get yours.
Picked up the same gun in 223 using it for varmints off a bipod stiffened up the front of the stock with some rockite expanding cement 1:9 twist yet shoots everything I've loaded for it 35 grain to 69 in the same holes back to back never thought I'd find a gun to come close to the 22-250 yet it does consistently
Definitely a good idea to stiffen up the front end of the stock as it flexes a lot at the front stud where the bipod goes.
I got the savage 12FV In 308 win. I plan on going deer hunting this year with it. It's a little to heavy for a deer rifle but I'm gona take it anyway
Ladies and gents ,,,you Truelly have an amazing piece. Out of the box I shot some 3/4 moa groups. Amazing for me not being a shooter at the time(about 9 yrs ago) Picked up reloading and got her to 1/2 moa. Then I read about glassbedding and did so with jb weld. That fv 223 did a few groups under an inch at 300. No b.s. also scope bases and rings I bedded. Granted you could put her on a chassis and do the same, but I didn't and don't have the funds. My stock is a chinsy narrow pos, but with solid fundamentals it works. And never ever disrespect that piece by putting a cheap optic on her. And search barrel break in b4 u go cranking rounds through her
just bought the same model in 22-250 in colorado and I love it very accurate rifle.. good video
clint bingaman Have you already shot it? If yes, what ammo did you shoot and how were the groups? It's going to be a few weeks before I get a scope, and get it mounted.
I was shooting ppu 55gr and I was shooting dimes at a 100 yards amazing rifle man you will be blown away

clint bingaman Wow that's awesome! I can't wait to see how mine shoots. Thanks for sharing your results!
I bought the FCP-SR in 6.5 creed with the accustock and I have been surprised at my groups. a couple have been down around .5 moa with factory 120 AMAX
under $400 for your gun is a steal
Mooglas Melson That's a great gun! I may be looking to pick up that one in the future. Let me know how you like it.
It's an easy .5-1"" gun at 100 yards. Mine shoots the lighter 120grn stuff better than the 140+. That's just factory loads, I haven't reloaded.
I purchased the same rifle and put a vortex crossfire II 6-24 X 50 - 30 mm tube scope on it and sighted it in this past Sunday at the farm and was exploding golf balls at 500 yards this is truly a phenomenal rifle for the price, also picked it up in a 223 but I have not got to take it out yet.
michael stevens Awesome, still waiting to get a scope on mine and get it out to see how it shoots.
just picked one up in 308 from cabelas for 278
Thanks for the tip!!! I picked up the .308 yesterday and have the .223 on order. Heck of a deal!
76bliesch Glad to be of help. Was thinking I should have picked up more than one too... Thanks for watching!
76bliesch how's the 308 shooting??
Update on this, I shot 1/2 moa at 200 yards with handloads for the .308. I couldn't believe it! 1 inch center to center at 200 yards 4 shot group. These things can't be beat for the price. The 223 shot .14 inches center to center at 50 yards. Crazy!!! that is less than a quarter inch center to center!!!!!! I am going to walk my way out to 100 then 200 and further and see what these things will do. Most accurate rifles out of the box I have ever owned. Maybe next year if they have a sale again for $320 I will pick up a 22-250 or 204 ruger.
What does the “fv “ mean?
Full varmint. Heavy barrel
Thanks for the video! I recently picked up the exact same model and absolutely love shooting it. It would be interesting to see a follow up video and maybe hear your thoughts about reloading for it. There isn't a ton of information about this specific model on TH-cam, and would be great to learn more about it.
Matt Murch Thanks for watching! I definitely plan more videos on this gun. Just added too much to my plate at one time. About 4 weeks away from getting glass on it and then I'll get it to the range and report back.
I am waiting for one ordered in .223 in Buffalo NY. Can't really pass up this kind of deal.
Nightshift12482 Agreed, can't pass up something like this. I didn't see another heavy barreled varmint gun for even close to this price. At least not with as good of trigger. Let me know how you like it when it comes in and thanks for watching!
what is the twist
Mine is still waiting on backorder. Supposed to be three more weeks. :/
NameWithheld Sorry you have to wait. If it's any consolation Im still saving to get a scope so I can get an optic on mine and get it to e range. Hoping by end of March...
My .308 has finally shipped! Should be any day now.
My .308 showed it as shipping Thursday. Hopefully it'll be here Monday or Tuesday!
Took more than six weeks, but for $320, I'm not complaining.
Chris Steele Awesome! Let know how you like it.
NameWithheld Good to hear you will be getting yours soon! Let me know how it shoots.
I just bought the 204 Ruger for 290$ at Cabela’s cAnt wait to shoot it ..with the heavy barrel it should drive tacks
I’m sure it will be a tack driver. I want to get something in .204 Ruger this year as well. Thanks for watching!
Recobs Target Shop for the win (it's on the calendar). I love that place!
Yep, it’s an awesome place! I tend to take it for granted that I can drive 25 minutes and find a huge selection of powder, bullets, primers, and reloading equipment.
Use plastisine to give you a height reference, then drop barreled action on it and tighten screws. When you take the action off to pour leaded jb weld .pour to an 1/8 or slightly less. There is a dude from New Zealand that posted glassbedding vids.. That's how I learned. Good luck and keep your powder dry
Just got one in 6.5 creedmore..cost 369.00 $100.00 rebate total cost 269.00 at cabellas
That’s an amazing deal! Let me know how it shoots for you. I’m into the 6.5 Creedmoor now as well, but with one of Savage’s pricier options.
You know if you want to set the firingpin you just have to lift the bolt up and then down again
i wonder if cabela's will have these for sale again or if there will be another rebate
Sale is on again on march 4th 2019
Anybody know if you can replace the internal magazine for a removal mag?
With a Boyds stock you can add bottom metal for aics patern mags for an extra 20 bucks.
and mine was on sale they said it was nra weekend 100 bucks off all fire arms
clint bingaman It is a great deal at that price. Enjoy the he new gun and thanks for watching!
Cheap stock mod if funds are low! Read here! So my bud bought a savage fp 308 with a nicely contoured flat based front stock. When breaking it in it kicked the crap out of his small frame. He asked if there was something I could do.. He also asked me to glass bed her.. So when I stripped her I noticed how it was hollow and honey combed throughout the fore end. Took a dremmel to the center walls of honey comb connecting each comb with a 3/16 s bit then roughed whole stock to be glassbedded. Added 3 lbs of #6 birdshot and mixed with jb weld and poured in to just under an eighth of an inch. I let cure for 2 weeks. Then I scuffed that coat and did final glass bed with jb weld. Bam!! 1/2 moa and tamed that mule. Try Georgia arms if you don't reload. It was hard to load as good as the grouped for almost a year of reloading. Not a professional and take my tactics and methods as you will. Also some nice accu trigger mods on here that I did on a few of my savages to bring em down down a little 😜 check out tiborasaurus rex for shooting fundamentals..worked for me
bryon metz Great stock mod idea! I am a big fan of T-Rex.. Thanks for watching!
Hello, what did you use for a scope Base? I just bought one and need a base. Thanks
I used Talley rings. They combine rings and base in one, so you don’t need a separate base.
219 after mail in rebate at Cabelas
Nice Rifle, nice video....Just ordered the same rifle in also 22-250 for the same { me lucky ) price!! See other video that claims it is a 1:9 twist? But Cabelas site says it is a 1:12 twist...
Not sure what I am gonna get now....but be Ok for general 40-60 gr stuff if it is a 1:12....
What twist is yours?? Thanks
james peters Its advertised as 1:12, so I'm going to say that what it is. It's not stamped on the barrel and I haven't tried checking it by running a rod through it.
doing a rifle review, don’t review bolt release or trigger...
I got mine for $219 with rebate including taxes
Brian Jorgenson That's an awesome deal! Thanks for watching!
just picked one up in .308 Win for $304 plus @100 rebate- 304 after all said and done
Can you measure the muzzle diameter (barrel thickness) if you have a set of calipers?
