Thanks Chris, love these fast updates! I think I still prefer being able to individually control the encode and decode amounts in ToTape7. Either way, great explanation of everything and cant wait to play around with this
@@hingeslevers lol yeah, i do turn down the flutter. All i do is use the top 3 knobs, turn down flutter, and leave all the other knobs alone. Adds a lot of crunch!
Awesome. As far as cassette or low ips tape, I would truly love a 70s 3/4 inch tape emulation. I had a machine just for mix down, but of course these break down quickly due to their age.
You are such a hero, I was literally just using tape 6 then so will have to give this a go, your stuff is always first class and has literally changed the way i mix so i cannot thank enough for your work man, truly amazing stuff your emulations are the best ive ever seen, much love from englandddd!!
Great stuff. I recently used your last version of totape to finish a cue, to create a noise floor along with a field recording of a thunder storm to play on top of. It seemed appropriate as I am using it as a filter Cant wait to mess with totape8
Tried on different songs , to get a tape more subtle and it’s amazing… just a tiny bit of flutter move gently the super highs works like a tape image sound! The head bump adjust it’s wonder to a drum bus (60 cs), vocal track (like 133 cs) is wonder! it blew my IK and every other tape sim… and it’s light plugin!
I'm shooting out three variants and will pick the most effective one. But it's only because this is ToTape8. Subscribe to the channel 'cos I'm not going to do that stuff for just any plugin: ToTape8 is a good introduction to what I can do, and relatively easy to use, so it is appropriate for getting more TH-cam traffic. Other stuff, meh, that's for people who are already interested and following, so if you depend on me to always hype the plugins you will MISS OUT :D
Chris, Respect, love, and thanks for all that you do. Your talk about updating meter at the end prompted me to offer this: With Meter 0.1.4, I analyzed a clipped-to-death 2005 rock song ripped from my own CD copy, came up BE Turned the track down -0.1dB and the exact same song read BD Meter was applied to the master track and I played the song through completely on both readings. I'm no programmer and can't pretend to fathom the algorithm, but if there's any chance that hard clipping issues a penalty to the excitement score, please reconsider. Adding headroom apparently takes the exact same waveform up an excitement level. I think Meter is valid and incredibly interesting, but in my journey to make sense of it all, I accidentally threw a wrench into the works. Thanks for your time, I hope Meter can help my own productions, but I'm already self-deprecating and I feel that telling people to turn my music down is a bad look 😆 Quickly on-topic, ToTape8 sounds awesome and I can only hope to wield it to its full potential. Thanks again
That's because WHERE the energy sits in Meter, matters. I'm working on another version which goes into a lot more detail, but yes, it does that because it's not an 'excitement' score so much as it is 'effective sound loudness and density' and I've had to make it measure a lot more than that to figure this stuff out. There's a lot more coming, I'm currently measuring hundreds and hundreds of tracks (hits and nonhits) to see how it's doing. Most likely next week, new Meter with 'effect on listener, variation in peak energy, and loudness intensity' instead of only loudness intensity. And yeah if you clip it cuts down on intensity because you are restricting variation in peak energy. Pulling it back from hardclip brings the peak energy a little more to bear: hardclip is flagged in red because you're probably also producing converter clipping, and this is why limiters typically are set to less than literal 0 dBFS. :)
ToTape8 has many features that were missing in ToTape7, and I really appreciate its simpler style. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the effect in the mid to high frequencies; I prefer the more subtle but noticeable effect of ToTape7. Chris, I really appreciate your work, and I don’t want to be a bother, but it would be fantastic if the next version of ToTape could combine the tape sound of version 7 with the controls and extra effects from version 8. They might be similar, but that mid-high effect makes it tricky to use on the mix bus, as things can get out of control quickly when you layer multiple instruments.
Hey Chris, I know this is a long shot but I'm going to try. Did you ever use an SP303? There is a really interesting compression algorithm going on in the vinyl sim mode on that unit. I'm curious if you know about it & if you could replicate that specific compression in some way. Just an idea, im sure a lot of people would love to have a version of that in their daw since it's so iconic. PS cant wait to try ToTape8. You're a legend

Same. Im hoping there is a way to install ToTape7 independently from Airwindows Consolidated. Both are great, but sometimes that extra grit is perfect.
You have both. That's the way I roll. Set Consolidate to show 'all' and you'll see you have TT7 still in Consolidated if that's the way you like to use the plugins :)
How frequently does the consolidated airwindows plugin get updated so this gets added? I want to keep it in one collection and not add too many new plugins
It should get rebuilt each week. The daily build for the VCV Rack plugin also gets rebuilt, but the official version updates more slowly and will eventually catch up :)
Is it possible to make it gritty, grainy and crunchy again for the Lofi and Hiphop crowd? Is it possible to install ToTape7 side by side with Airwindows Consolidated? Thank you for this amazing project. The wiki is also a treasure trove.
It is always possible to install ALL variations and if you set Consolidated to show 'all' you'll see all the variations in Consolidated (it has ALL of them, and all the descriptions. Baconpaul from the Surge XT project is a wizard)
@@airwindows I had no idea, that changes everything. Thank you for all that you do. And indeed that is wizardry embodied lol, it’s almost too much power for one musician to have.
@before.23 Yeah that’s funny, I’ve been using ToTape 7 the same exact way. I put it on all the tracks, but I bring out the warmth and bass on the drums, and use it more dry on the snares and hats. Then I use it on the master as well. Im just installed 8 last night so I haven’t had a chance to play with the new sound yet. So far 7 has been amazing for making my own loops to sample and making them feel like real lofi samples from someone else, especially when you use it on synths. I feel like ToTape in general is a secret sauce for lofi and hiphop. Hopefully it stays that way lol. It’s too good.
I know you already got a reply, but what did you even mean by your question? ToTape7 is included in Consolidated, I didn’t realise it was possible to miss. Not trying to be mean, just nonplussed.

More accurately: I save the hype for the ones that really matter. HYPE and then I'll admit happily when I make other plugins that were just something fun to do :) you'll notice I didn't hype Dubly3 much, because this is where it really matters…
