Your studio build, acoustic treatment experiment saga, mix breakdowns, and stuff on your channel is excellent man!! Oh and wasn't there a vid with an engineer who recorded Stevie Wonder in one of your previous spaces, or am I tripping out? Seriously cool stuff anyway, you have a great vibe and energy, I try not to TH-cam too much, but often find myself back on your channel. I recommend everyone check out Eric Valentine's videos describing the process of him and the team working on this. They worked crazy hard to get the right amount of saturation, right compression curves, etc to get this thing sounding as close as possible to the real deal. Crazy stuff! Thankful for Mr. Valentine listening to the people and lowering the price so more people can get it!
Honestly. Audio engineering started for me with reading about Revolver and Geoff Emerick and so much praise for the Fairchild. I got the uad since native straight away. Felt it should be more than it is. Did a little research but only concluded that none is really offering more. This is exactly what I need. Especially the vocal Eric displayed was tremendous. Also, I spent the whole summer thinking the world needs a new greatest and really close CS80 emulation. Softube released that just when the summer ended. Plugins are cool shit that actually change stuff that you actually actively think creates friction in your audio journey. Now, keep your priorities straight according to your straight. I was born a tone snob and always rank song writing above all else. That actually collerates with being just the Blackmore, Clapton, Page, Gilmour, May, Young Brothers type of monumental music making I and many others love the most.

I have to admit, this plugin does a great job of capturing the analog vibe, especially with the THD control and subtle harmonics when it's not even compressing. It’s impressive how they’ve managed to simulate the warmth without sacrificing detail. It’s not a full replacement for the real hardware, but for the price, it definitely brings value to the table. Curious to see how it holds up in more detailed comparisons with other emulations.

@@jordan17bliss At modest levels and compression, the two act and sound pretty close! In my opinion, closer than the average hardware vs software comparison. I think it's $99 at the moment. It does sound good to me, better than the UAD one. Apart from the compression, while is nice and subtle, it colours the sound in a very nice way, add a tiny bit of top-end sparkle and air. While having a lot of low-end. The sound comes a little forward, but the frequency spectrum seems to extend and open up a bit wider too. The UAD sounds a bit pinched by comparison, though does do the compression and sounds clean and clear.

I can definitely hear the saturation. They may well be using neural modelling which can model saturation stages (& valve response) incredibly well, but only in the last few years.
The first thing you wanna try is just increasing the input volume first. Do not engage the threshold until you hear a nice warm tube distortion start to come in and then back it off slightly or not.... This works great on drum busses as well. After you have experienced preamps, let the compressor engage only slightly.

Thanks for this review. I love a Fairchild emulation on my buses, the UAD being my goto one. But this one I will definitely have a close look at. I never worked with any Fairchild hardware so whether this is an accurate simulation of the hardware doesn't mean much to me. I can't compare it anyway. For me, what it does and how it sounds is key. And what I hear in your review is very very promising. Both the compression itself and the character it adds without any compression sound very smooth and pleasant. I think I hear things I don't get from the UAD plugin, a very subtle smooth kind of harmonics / saturation. Not sure how that translates when applying it to individual instruments or even smoothing a vocal, but certainly some things to experiment with. very cool stuff
Will you be doing the video series about the best compressors, eqs, etc... like you mentioned in a past video? Could you also review the Kalifornia Dynamic "Quad-Circuit Harmonics Processor" ?
I cannot do any videos but I can summary the answer for your question into one single point: The best compressor/eq is the one you are the most familiar in using to get what you want. That is literally the single most important thing in any of these. No matter how much the hardware or plugin costs and in how many list hits they are used, those will never be good for you if you struggle using them.
Do I need a new Fairchild compressor? No, but the GBTracker is in daily use and the 99$ is my little contribution to Eric and his team for the dedication to deliver quality content and products for the community.
I've compared it to UAD native version. When I listen to the uad and unfairchild plugins I hear warmer low end and the instrument stays up-front (which I suppose makes it sound more modern like you said) with the unfairchild.
the original price before it was dropped was 100% reasonable due to its closest competition being the Acustica Midnight and that’s priced at well over 200 euros..
this is source dependent, imo. I have the MDE both versions and they get consistent and irreplaceable use in my workflow; however, I feel for softer materia,l this one wins. different strokes...
Mixland... they impressed me quite a lot with their VacAttack. A compressor that couldn't be simpler, but it made my mixes, well, better? I was rather surprised that it didn't get more attention from the community because I had the impression that also that thing sounded really analog.
This KIIVE at Heart (or brain). They've got a few very good comps (better than anything else for what they are), this is on par with Midnight and Ultramarine from AA. Stellar.
It has a SC HP filter now, and they dropped the price by 100 bucks. Imo, this is the best sounding Fairchild style plugin on the market now. Lets see if my honeymoon phase wears off, but i'm loving it so far Btw that is basically the perfect music to test this compressor on, wow
Yes you crazy ; ) and yes, it sounds very good and 'analogue'. I think one of the reasons why it sounds to good is the same reason why your system got a stroke as soon as you upped the oversampling. I guess this plugin uses a lot of processing power, something most plugin developers want to avoid.
4 interest free installments (costing 200/4 = 50 each) or 17,something/mo until its payed, which prolly ends up in 12, so a full year of payments, including interest fee, which would be 15 bucks, so roughly 8% if it was 12 payments.
Using 1 of the 100 highclass highres well-reviewed saturation plugins together with a stock compressor like Logics Platinum (no coloring). Isn't that what a Fairchild does - or do I miss any point here? :)

What does „the low end falls apart“ actually mean?
@@aaronglass890 The Uta plugin and unfairchild hardware are modeled on the 670 as are the uad plug-ins. Am I missing something?
@@guitboxgeek the unfair child is their own take on that unit. It is intentionally different. Think “inspired by” instead of cloned or replicated
this plugin sound amazing, also AA Midnight is a great emulation
Great video , can make a review audified 1a equalizer ?
the original price before it was dropped was 100% reasonable due to its closest competition being the Acustica Midnight and that’s priced at well over 200 euros..
High pass filter at 100Hz would be absolutely amazing.
I tried this against Acustica Midnight and DDMF MagicDeathEye Stereo and the MagicDeathEye actually won for me.
All great plugins though. :)
this is source dependent, imo. I have the MDE both versions and they get consistent and irreplaceable use in my workflow; however, I feel for softer materia,l this one wins. different strokes...
Acustica ultramarine is fairchild emulation, not midnight
@@EpilepsyGod from the unofficial master list:

Eclipse - 670M II - UnderTone Audio UnFairchild 670MII
@@pico5631 just use ultramarine, seriously
I was waiting someone compares this to MDE, which is irreplaceable for me
Wow, absolutely beautiful. A comparison with the UAD version would be interesting.
Mixland... they impressed me quite a lot with their VacAttack.
Stellar.
Payments rock even when you have the cash to cover it a bunch of times over...I don't have to think about shit that way
Was reduced to $99 2 days ago, refunds for people who paid full price is being processed
How would you rate that vs uad fairchild?
I plugin has been updated. Oversampling issue fixed. Added high pass filter and side chain
Man, I’d LOVE to see that plugin make it to the market! Hoping that goes well 🙂
Fingers crossed, I'm very, very critical...
@@Whiteseastudio You, nooooo never! 😂
What's that spectrum analyzer at 10:43?
Thats the DDMF Plugindoctor
Your wish has been granted, side-chain filter has been added with update and also some other neat features 😁
i have the UAD VERSION..GOT IT FOR ABOUT 40 USD ON A SALE AND SOUNDS GREAT!! :)
The plugin did try to unsandstorm but failed into bitcrusher darude jamsession
It has a SC HP filter now, and they dropped the price by 100 bucks.
Imo, this is the best sounding Fairchild style plugin on the market now. Lets see if my honeymoon phase wears off, but i'm loving it so far
Btw that is basically the perfect music to test this compressor on, wow
I like the plugin, it has a good sound. And since they have gone down with the price, it is also a reason for people to maybe get the plugin.
Influflencing, my new favourite word.
something happens when you just turn it on. I'm a minimalist so I like that part. I will never get into all the other knobs. too much for my dome.
"It basically changes your compression curve." Actual lol.
