A few other backpacks take the split in the middle design that creates two 15-17 litre compartments - Tortuga SetOut Divide (26-34 litres, $125). With a mesh full cover divider you might not need packing cubes. The downside for me was neither side comfortably took the camera/tech cube as it needed 12 cm depth. The Tortuga Setout (35litre, $125 July 2021) has one large compartment with the "lid" having mesh zipped pockets. So you can fit some bulky shoes or boots and a larger camera cube. If your packing includes a suit, collared shirts, ties etc I think you need 40 litres even if then you cinch it down a bit afterwards. The internal flight I took in India had a 7kg limit. They didn't weigh my carry on back pack and.at 10 litres it isn't large but was heavier than the backpack with my clothes including a blazer for a wedding. Pakt and Nomadic have excellent organisation but need you to pack their way. Minimal and GoRuck just provide an open space to throw packing cubes in. There are heavier bags but they are also larger capacity. Peak Design 2050g, Pakt backpack 2045g, Digital Nomad 1850g, Black Ember V4 Modular 1800g. Tortuga Setout Divide 1735g, Tortuga Setout 1545g.
Great review, I have this bag and it’s my second favorite. GR2, Pakt, Nomatic travel pack is how I have them ranked IMO. The thing that annoys me about the pakt is the depth on the laptop side is shallower than the mesh. Noticeably. On the mesh side that internal pocket at the top drives me insane, I’m a pouch guy and don’t need one fixed inside. I found myself using it for receipts or folded up docs. With this bag you need to pack according to the bag, not your normal set up. For example the PD packing cube only fits on the mesh side, not the laptop side. So I switch that cube out for a thinner one when using this pack. Once I switched all my pouches to the Nite Ize runoffs and packing cube the above issue is solved. Outside of my Goruck GR2 34l this Pakt backpack comes in second easily. Anyone have the able carry max and love it?
I really liked this review thank you! I came across Pakt via another youtuber who is a minimalist, and I am seriously considering buying this backpack! I love the khaki colour and I think the clamshell opening is really unique & useful (versus reaching all the way down into the bottom of a standard backpack to get to your stuff) and I love the addition of the multifunctional fanny pack...they are so expensive though and shipping to the UK is $50, but I appreciate this video and will probably invest in it 👍🙏🙂
Great review thanks. One word on the weight. I've received a black one a week ago. It's 1.48 kgs if you strip out the weight belt, sternum strap and accessories straps. With the full ensemble its 1.87 kgs. That's a weight reduction. Not sure if this is because it is black or it is new stock
This is a very nice bag. I feel like some people are down playing how amazing it is becauase they want to keep it exclusive for reselling it in the futute. Back packs are the next sneaker resell market. I think i might buy two of these
Interesting theory… but wouldn’t the bag need to be in limited supply for the resale value to go up? Cuz that’s not the case, anyone can buy this bag online
Great review. You are doing a great job with this channel. A comment on the pakt backpack review, I believe the zippers are not YKK (which was a disappointment). They announced them as YKK and ended up changing them (chase reeves mentioned it at one of his videos)
The space is great. But, the complaint I have is the pockets aren’t really able to be utilized when fully packed out. I like the sling a lot as a feature. TSA pocket stays empty for me so I use it to get through the line and move on faster. Love the bag. My favorite that I own. But I really wish it were waterproof.
This was actually one hell of a review. I saw the time and thought "Yea, na bruh." But actually checked out the whole thing lol. Real talk, you did an awesome job and gave great detail on this backpack! The TSA part I found a little funny and I agree with the parts on the back. Wishing you could just slide them off. Despite that and the reattachment of the sling, I think this backpack could be pretty badass. Thanks for the review. 🙏 Also good energy man.
Hello there, thank you for the review. I appreciate your manner of direction when It comes to your review process. This video convinced me to give this bag a try, while I don't travel, I've been in the market for a good backpack with a decent level of interior organization, that's not too big or over-engineered to be used casually on a college campus or as a daily travel pack, but regardless has the durability and space to be used on 1 to 2-day trips. For my purposes, I think this backpack should serve me well🤔
Honestly, I'm still on the fence with this one... I like the design a lot. I like the Olive Color. The split clamshell opening is useful, but a 30 L pack at $295 seems really, really expensive. That's more expensive than Aer's and I think a good one bag travel backpack should probably be in the 35-40L range. My EDC pack is a North Face Surge. It's 31L and barely fits all my EDC gear.
Good points! I have lived off a 30 liter backpack for weeks at a time, but it depends what I bring. If I need my laptop and all my work gear - no way in hell
Its funny how opinions can change once one begins to travel a bit more. So, to edit my older comment-yes, I can find suitable bags for less expensive, but not without sacrifice. This bag is feature rich, and quality. Worth its price. My only complaint against it would be its weight.

Not much of a traveler but I'd like to be. My question is would this count as a personal bag being free or a carry on that you'll be charged for. If your paying for carry on why not get a little rolling suitcase instead. Do you have a recommendation for a bag that's big enough to carry 3 days of clothes while also travel as a personal (free) bag?
Thanks for the comment Daniel! The personal bag question is tough to answer cuz it 100% depends on the airline - they all have different policies. Backpacks are great because they give you more agility. Walking through cobbled streets in Europe? Getting on the back of a grab scooter in Vietnam? Need to walk from hostel to hostel in Peru? Truth be told, suitcases are great, but backpacks are seen as a better choice for younger/backpacking type travel. If I were to go on a weekend trip to a resort in the Maldives, I totally could see a suitcase being a better option. Also, this bag should fir your needs (depending on the airline)

@@Nomads.Nation Thanks for that. May I ask you how you confirmed this? Nowhere on their website or specs do they specify YKK zips. From what my correspondence suggests in the past few weeks with PAKT, they haven't upgraded to YKK on the newer packs either. I love their design and crew but they seem quite adamant that YKK is not what one HAS to go with since there are other brands which make zippers that are as good (not sure I agree).
The TSA Pocket is overrated, specially because it’s hard to access. The straps are a little too hard, and the sling is useful, but I use a day sling 2, so… no need for it. The waist straps makes the briefcase mode a little cumbersome. Aside from that, everything else in the bag is AMAZING. 3 trips with it and I love it more and more every time. P.S. The waterproof pocket is a game changer.
@@Nomads.Nation the luggage pass through should’ve been centered, being as heavy as it is and fully packed it can tilt to one side on a small roller. Tilting to the same side trip after trip it can start to rip.
Have this bag, and hereʻs what sucks about it: 1) back loop designed to slide down a roll-away / suitcase handle while sitting sideways is almost impossible to get over any of my case handles. If it was one-two inches wider, it would be perfect. 2) The outer compression straps on each side are idiotically removable and they easily fall out of the loops that they clip to. Great example of over-engineering a feature to the point of killing it, as you will lose these due to the excess "dangle" noted in this video. Other parts of the bag are great, but sorry, for >$300 in cost and intended purpose for air travel, the bag has these two fatal flaws that kill it for me. Also, the key loop is also terrible and my keys constantly fall out (again, would a simple locking hoop be so wrong here?!).
The little mesh pockets may be for a portable battery bank to charge your electronics on the go…especially since they’re situated towards the top. What do you think?
Thanks dude! I honestly haven't tested it out much since the review, but I can tell you it's a beast that will last the test of time. I think that I would take the Aer Capsule over this, but I also don't know why but I have some strange obsession with the Capsule lol
Great video! Channel is becoming my go to TH-cam time suck! How does this compare to the peak design travel bag? I have used the peak design travel bag and love it!
Thank you so much! I would say they are similar in the fact that they are both feature HEAVY, and incredibly well made, but obviously the biggest different will be the capacity. Pakt is better for weekend/one bag trips, PD is better for longer trips or if you are a heavier packer. Hope that helps!

def heavy but I know many travlers who adore this bag. Maurice Moves is a great example - veteran traveler and TH-camr and it's his go-to bag
I would buy this bag if it was $150 to $170....
As it is there are too many good alternatives from about 150-170
What are some good alternatives at that price point?
@@Nomads.Nation I mentioned that you could find ebags, Osprey, REI, kelty and many others
@@TheKelly1951 Great recs! But it's imprtant to rmbr that bags at this price point won't be as durable/well designed as the Pakt bag (and other bags in its price range).
Can tell it will create a very sweaty back with a lack of ventilation. And the weight is heavy.
Thanks for your comment! I personally don’t think the weight is too big a deal, but the lack of ventilation on the back is a problem
I don't agree with lack of space, I can travel indefinitely with 30L AND I carry 2 laptops
me too, but this one feels a bit tight for a 30L. But totally agree, I've done 20L for a few weeks and it was awesome
@Aaron Radcliffe (Nomads Nation) Crossing fingers. I just ordered this Pakt travel pack in green, I used to just use DB 30L for multi-month stuff, hopefully this is better
(Db formerly douchebags)
@@WeiFinder I haven’t tested any DB products, but my hunch is that you’ll like this more. Let us know what you think of it after testing for a few weeks!
Pretty sure these dont come with YKK zippers.
Ah shit... you might be right..
Wow, took just a little too long to make up my mind and the green one is now sold out…
Keep an eye out - should hopefully be back in stock soon!
I do hope that wasn't pee at 1:52. Couldn't tell.
Pee… water… same same
Good backpack but it cant beat the Aer travel 3. This backpack loses a lot of points for me in terms of build quality, usability and design. Its also more expensive than Aer. For me Aer is the gold standard.
I too would take the ATP3 over this
👍🏾
❤️
For me, one big con is the poor access to the front pockets.
Great point - 100% agreed
Im 5'5 on a good day and shoes but 5'1" every morning.
we live similar lives lol
Ok now this or the Aer TP2? Lol
DAMN! That's a hard one.... I guess if I had to choose I would shockingly go with this! ATP2 is amazing, but I was really blown away by this Pakt product :)
@@Nomads.Nation thanks for always replying!
@@kjcl90 Haha I try! As the channel grows it's getting more challenging, but I'll keep it up as long as I can :)
I have one. Was excited. Not functional for my travel. Great idea though. No use to me
Yea that makes sense, it’s def not for everyone
Kilos, guys, kilos :D
The rest of the world can't "measure in apples" (just joking with respect, if sb is offended, pls, forgive me)
Ha I'll try! As an American measuring things in lbs is just in my blood.
