    In the early 90's i was working at a hairdressers in Manchester , i had the pleasure of spending a few hours with this lady & her rescue dog , whom she had called Selotape , as he needed so much putting back together ! I was a young lady , and i have never forgot that day, washing her hair & chatting with Brenda.She was such fun , she lit up my day :) That dog adored her , what a special memory :)

    Brenda is like all our ma's, aunties and big Irish sisters. They take no nonsense and they'll have your back if you deserve it. Honest as the day is long. Really enjoyed listening to her.

    I would love to read Brenda’s poetry. To me, she is genuine, earthy, real, and authentic - so many equal superlatives. I’m looking forward to the day when I’m on my own in my little cottage.

    Wow! What a rollercoaster? To be so comfortable in your own sadness and to see the sparkle of her stories making her happy again, beautiful interview could watch hours of this! I’m actually jealous of Brenda being able to be so honest in her sadness. Right now I’m having a terrible time with my mental health and everything. I’m just so lost in my sadness that I can’t function properly yet everyone is just carrying on as though there’s nothing wrong. I told my husband last night I don’t like anyone or anything just now, that I don’t want to be here anymore. He cracked a “joke” and then left the room! I honestly think sadness, proper lonely sadness is out upon you and not coming from something missing in you. I just wish I had someone to tell that would actually do something to help me. It is what it is 😢

    • @TadhghR
      @TadhghR หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      The Irish way of saying that sadness is upon you, not I am sad, seems to resonate in a better way. It implies that something or someone has brought sadness into your life, not that you're a sad person, implying its not a permanent state, and there is a resolve available. Sometimes it's a bit harder to find and implement it however. All the power to you at this time, and for the future.

    • @jamesthecat
      @jamesthecat หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm sorry, that must have been awful, but good on you for complaining! I see it as a horribly numb, disconnected state. I hope Brenda's stories helped you remember how you were, and how you will be again, in time, when you start to get your feeling back. Take care. 💚

    • @CionnFE
      @CionnFE หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It looks to me that you are well able to be honest about your sadness….you just have been here. And also, you are able to tell someone else, as you have done here to me and every reader. I wish you strength and hope, and that you will find belief in yourself and your ability to truly heal, with support from others. I believe you can ❤❤❤

    "sadness is almost necessary to have as an emotion, because how else do you empathise...' I thought that was profound and says alot about Brenda's love of people. 😍

  • @harlemdeni

    Holy shyt this was heavy. As a sort of a recluse myself and also periods of my life battling depression with antidepressants, I love staying at home, and only go outside to get smth from the store and to train BJJ. But I can't say it's the best situation if you want to find love and have children. These states of emotions are total opposites, and ngl - being in my middle 30s, there can be scary days filled with 'how I'm going to carry myself through life if I don't have a partner and children' thoughts. Life is fkd up. 😂

    I saw Brenda Fricker in a play at The Gate. She was sensational. 1998? I studied with Uta Hagen for years in the 90's and had talked about the hardest thing to do as an actor was to exit the stage in a manner that people didnt know if you are leaving the stage (or something like that.) she said it is so rare she had only seen it a few times. I saw Brenda Fricker do it . When I saw this video pop up I saw it as it was yesterday
