Amigos, I did the opposite (I grew up in Mexico and now live in the USA) I love your enthusiasm and willingness to embrace the Mexican culture. For better taste, I highly recommend drinking the YAKULTS super cold and remember to shake them fiercely before you open them. We got into the conversation of the candies we remembered growing up and we tried to think of all of them! That year at Christmas, I was so surprised and couldn’t stop laughing when I found my husband had found almost every single one of those candies and filled my stocking!! 😂 Some of those candies were...ChickoStix, candy necklaces, Wax lips, Bazooka bubble gum, Jolly Ranchers, Sugar Daddies and more than I can remember at the moment. So technically it is not a snack, it is more of a healthy food supplement. The new governamental food labels sometimes can be "misleading" like in this case about sugar contents, by the time you ingest the product, the lactobacilli have already eaten and processed almost all the sugar. Another example of misleading labeling would be the label of canned olives that states "sodium excess", but Who drinks the brine???

When I went to playa del carmen I bought a bag of mexican candy to bring back to my coworkers. Turned out that it was made with goats milk. Which is really no big deal, but not something used in Canada ( where I'm from) Most of my coworkers chickened out and didn't want them. I ended up taking most of them home lol Some of my favorite candies growing up were chiclet gum, fizz candy ,grape bubble yum, fun stix, and hickory sticks
I don't know about Texas but Mexican candy is eaten by kids in San diego where my husband was born and raised, Pelon Pelo Rico is his favorite, we live in VA and he used to order a box of them on line but now we have a few Latino markets around us and he has been able to find them there, the problem with that is he also buys other candies and snacks along with them, now with me I used to love the penny candies like Mary Jane.

Canelitas are great. Mantecadas ( Manteca = Lard ) But I believe they used vegetable shortening but the word could mean in English buttered but in spanish butter is mantequilla. Therefore Mantecadas. A lot of the snacks don't taste the same as before because the lowering quality of the ingredients to get better profits. You got to go to the state of Colima and get some of their artisanal candy made of coconut and tamarinds.

The sweet bread and chips don't count as a candies. Candies are the dried fruits. Jamoncillos, cerritos, of coconuts obleas mazapanes the chocolates etc. And the any candies with chili are not exactly candies. Are golosinas. But the mix of bread, chips and candies you can say. Chuchulucos. Try to eat jamoncillos, rollos de dulce de membrillo, glorias, obleas and dried fruit like a figs , lemon , pineapples etc. Are very Delicious.

Ask a Mexican what candies are best, anything from Bimbo co. goes with milk, specially mantecadas, try submarinos, try mazapán, pelón rico, But there are also the real mexican Candy hand made from people selling them from a basket ,: cocadas, Palanquetas, alegrías, cachetadas, borrachitos, camotes, etc. maybe at the mercado you'll find real mexican candy. Indy dedos used to be delicious during my childhood, but a lot of ingredients of most candy have changed to cheaper alternatives. Now dedos just taste like sour sugar.

Yakult Is not a candy nor a snack. Is just a beverage that you take ir you want to imprpvw your gut health (because of its good bacteria content) but it has added sugar to make it more palatable. AND about the products from Bimbo AND tía rosa, although they are made ti resemble pan dulce I don't think we neccesarily consider them proper pan dulce, they are just a industrialized cakey/bready-ish snack more in the category, but not really a proper substitut for pan dulce. They are good on its own without being compared to actual pan dulce.
Growing up I remember Las abejitas, canelitas, bimbunuelos, cheetos, but now when I go to Mexico I usually buy bigotes... Are delicious with cajeta and chocolate fillings

Its from Korea but based on the yoghurt of the Balkans and other mountainous regions such as I think Mongolia? Something like that..

AND about the products from Bimbo AND tía rosa, although they are made ti resemble pan dulce I don't think we neccesarily consider them proper pan dulce, they are just a industrialized cakey/bready-ish snack more in the category, but not really a proper substitut for pan dulce. They are good on its own without being compared to actual pan dulce.

Chicos no compren pan en el oxxo, la gente por lo general va a esa tienda a comprar cerveza y botanas para fiestas asi que el pan por lo general se les hace viejo y aunque siempre esta mas bueno el de la panaderia, el pan que estan probando sabe mejor cuando esta nuevo.
