I've gone all the way backwards twice in the manual chair without the anti-tip due to steep ramps and uneven pavements. Do not recommend. Didn't hit my head but by trying to avoid hitting my head I pulled all sorts of muscles. I think anti tips are a good thing to keep on unless you have excellent balance to stop chair going backwards if someone tedious leans on it.
I use a powerchair and people use my chair for balance on the bus. It feels very odd.

I've been lucky that I've managed to rectify any tipping when I don't have my anti tip on before tipping back. It's terrifying! I'm so sorry you've ended up injured as a result. I'd love to permanently take the anti-tip off, because it does add weight to the chair, but the safety feature outweighs the little extra weight at the moment. It's so weird when people 'use' our equipment without permission. You wouldn't lean on another person without asking first! Xx

Thanks for sharing about this Tania! I hope that this video can help others to ask first before helping others.

Thank you so much for watching! I really hope it helps people understand that although their intentions are good (and we know that), ultimately they can do more harm than good if they don't ask first. Xx

I've also had people push in front of me even though they know I'm there. Think they assume I can't be buying anything as disabled people don't go shopping.

Oh yes, I've had this a lot. It's infuriating! So, so rude. Xx

I don't get why they don't ask first...like you'd not carry someone struggling up a set of stairs. If someone asks I'd be quite happy to be pushed up a ramp if for some reason was in the manual chair as i can't do i myself lol

That's such a good analogy! Yes, I'm totally the same, I always really appreciate the help when offered. Pushing a wheelchair is so much hard work! Xx

I was once in hospital visiting a friend. The nurse was being very rude and dismissive to her but she was also leaning on the back of my powerchair. I lost my politeness and drove forward a few feet... She apologised after stumbling. I'm not going to lie it did feel good! I've also had people use my headrest as a newspaper stand on the tube. With powerchairs it can be quite dangerous people trying to push them so I would quickly let go of the joystick and ask the person not to do it, because with powerchairs if someone pushed hard enough it will suddenly increase the speed. It when you need when going up a short ramp in to a taxi. I didn't experience people queue jumping much but my chair took up a lot of space. I have had people try and push past though and ask me to move. Wheelchairs don't just move sideways! As I had to be tilted and reclined I do think people felt I was taking up too much space. On the tube you could probably squeeze 4+ people in to the space of me tilted and reclined at rush hour. It's difficult enough not to feel self conscious about that without people being funny about it. I would have to until my chair a bit to turn around and get out but was scared to do that because people would immediately take up the space I'd just made free which is a problem when you can only stay upright for roughly less than a minute. This will be more of difficult when I'm well enough to be back in a chair as I will likely have a bigger wheelchair thay tilts and reclines even more! Not sure how people will take to someone driving around essentially lying down.

Good for you! Sometimes it takes people being physically shown that their behaviour is inappropriate. I'm glad the nurses apologised. I'm shocked that people would even try to push a power chair - what are they trying to achieve!? You don't need the help to move, you've got a motor! Ugh, some people really are inappropriate. I can't imagine how difficult getting the tube must've been for you. I know your chair takes up more room, but you have just as much right to be there as anyone else! Xx

People hang things off my handles or even put their purse in my lap. Don’t. Just don’t.
