    Dude, you're literally the only person on youtube that has shown a full teardown/put together of the cylinder head/valves etc - THANK YOU! I'm on a never ending quest for combustion on my old honda 90 and finally noticed that my valves don't seat worth crap. For sure going to try to lap them down, awesome!

    Very good work and excellent video. We have two 68 CT90's I'm going to tear down and repaint (finishing up our 65 Yamaha's now). Love how the Vapor Blasting turned out. Might need to get a quote on doing my two engines (rebuild and all). They run fine, shift fine, but smoke a bit. That would allow me to focus on painting and refinishing.

    I watched this several times and the one thing I wanted to see, apparently was skipped in the video. I never saw the Timing chain tensioner spring and piston installed. My CT-90 skipped a tooth on the timing chain as a result of removing the bike by myself from the back of my Toyota truck. Apparently when the front wheel bounced on the ground, it was enough to cause a whipping action which caused the timing chain to skip one tooth. The spring to me, seems very weak, not much stronger than a ball point pen spring. Can you confirm only one spring is used or are there two? I have a 1971 CT-90 with the high/low transmission.

    Approximately, what would a Honda shop charge to do a rebuild like that, including replacement of worn transmission parts and labor?

    • @TynkaTyme
      @TynkaTyme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure, I’ve seen guys advertise full rebuilds for $1300. I do them for customers with vapor blasting service to make it look brand new for significantly less than that.

    • @TynkaTyme
      @TynkaTyme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Tom! I put it in after the head is on and torqued down, that way you aren’t fighting against the tensioner trying to get your camshaft installed

    Great videos on this CT90 engine teardown and rebuild. There's no way that all these cases, and covers are just vapor blasted though. Looks to me like there was some repainting. involved.

    • @TynkaTyme
      @TynkaTyme  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should do some research on vapor blasting. The only thing that got painted on this engine was the cylinder painted black. Everything is raw aluminum that was vapor blasted.

    • @MrTapes
      @MrTapes ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m up to speed on vapor blasting, thanks.
      I’m not sure I follow what you’re saying though. You took them down to the raw aluminum? The cases had pretty severe oxidization, and paint loss. So you used the vapor blaster to remove the paint, and left them unpainted? They’ll oxidize.
      I strip cases like that, sand down the oxidization, then repaint, and coat with 2k.

    • @TynkaTyme
      @TynkaTyme  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrTapes the use of an aviation grade corrosion inhibitor prevents oxidation.
      This video is 2 years old. That engine was never ran, and is still sitting on my shelf - corrosion and oxidation free.

    Hey buddy, I gotta 1966 Honda S90. What’s a good type and weight oil to use? I saw some other guy on TH-cam saying to use the Shell Rotella 15w40. Isn’t that oil a little heavy?

    • @TynkaTyme
      @TynkaTyme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never worked on an s90 but I’m sure it’s the same engine, or very similar. The CT90 says SAE20 below 60 degrees or SAE30 above 60 degrees. Can’t go wrong with what’s stamped right on the side of the engine. Lol

    • @brettabraham4949
      @brettabraham4949 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TynkaTyme yeah it’s basically the same motor as the CT90 if not identical. The side is stamped SAE30. So what’s that mean? 10w30, 5w30, automotive oil?

    • @TynkaTyme
      @TynkaTyme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brettabraham4949 no you’re looking for straight SAE30 oil. Keep in mind you’d need one compatible with a wet clutch. They make specific oils for motorcycles so would recommend going that route.

    *Fortunately for me at 67, I won't live long enough to ever need to 're-build a Honda engine' and if my '08 'Metropolitan' ever requires
    it...I'll have a 'Mighty Fifty' delivered in a crate!*
    ( *I doubt I will ever need one...the engine I have is as 'smooth as glass' and runs exactly as it should* )
    *I checked the valves last year, and found nothing needing adjustment and only the faintest of 'carbon-soot' was visible*
    ( *Engine has 12,000+ miles on it* )
    _______
    *I notice all the 'engine failures' I see on 'YT' involve engines exposed to water, or teens that simply destroyed them with constant abuse because they care NOTHING of taking care of any 'finely-crafted' anything*
    _______
    *i used to watch 'Rolling Wrench'...but then he began peddling 'Chinese speed parts' that are meaningless and will almost certainly 'over-strain' an engine to the point of excessive wear thru 'over-revving' and 'bastardized exhausts' that 'make you think it's faster because everyone selling that sh!t says so!'*
    _______
    *My scoot does have some 'performance mods' done, but engine/power-train/exhaust are 'factory' and w/the addition of a 'shorty windscreen' that gave me a 1.4 mph boost that is permanent and does no harm to anything except bugs!*
    ( *I weigh 230lbs and it seems to mean nothing to the Honda at all* ) *A 42-mph at top-end*
    _______
    *It was nice to watch your '2-part' video of "How It's Done" because it shows 'what to do' and 'what not to do' as well*
