Last time I was at Banbury station.... was in the early 1980's when Banbury North, Banbury South & Aynho Jn signal boxes were in operation, complete with semaphore signalling.... I distinctly remember working numerous times as a youthful driver's assistant on the 18:27 freight from Eastleigh Marshalling Yard, which usually consisted mainly of old vacuum braked 4-wheel wagons, restricted to 35mph due to their 9ft or 10ft wheelbase going to Birmingham for scrap (keeping a sharp look out for hot boxes en-route).... hauled by an obligatory class 47... After having been relieved at Banbury... we waited hours for our back working....A Longport to Fawley empty air-braked train of 100t gas tankers, also hauled by a class 47.... restricted to 60mph back to Eastleigh.... that was a day's (or should I say night's) work... I can also remember on one particular trip two US fighter aircraft from a nearby airbase carrying out a simulated attack on the train... which frightened the sh1t out of me & the driver... I retired as a driver after 40 years service... in 2018...P.S. Banbury station doesn't look much different now to what it looked like in the 1980's.... an old 08 shunter rejoicing in the name "Cherwell" used to live semi-permanently in the bay platform... which looks like it has been turned over to pasture....
Great video! I love the Chiltern Line. It's one of my favourite routes. Beautiful line, stations and the 168s, 165s and 68s are all fantastic. Awesome. :)
Great video mate. Great to see 68010 'Oxford flyer' and of course is your stalker and she sound powerful and very scary when she depart, a Freightliner 70 which is clagging nicely (don't you mean Southampton M.C.T.) and the Colas Rail 66 (I think is your first time filming a Colas 66). great to join chazthomotrains again, he's a good guy I can't explain 👍. Can you trains at Water Orton on the XCR pls
great video J as always , loved the 68 and yes it sounded great + some awesome clag , also gladys and susan trying to drowned you comentry out with silly announcements , lots of sunshine well just the perfect video well done J . KEEP SAFE MATE Syd :)
What do you think about the British railways thing takeing over the name of the private operators.? And whatever happened to Anne being the recored voice annousments lol
I am really not keen on the station itself though. Both Oxford and Banbury station needs some renovation I think. P.S: For some reason, I love Celia and Phil to be much better than Anne... Love it!
@@georgedowns4034 Did you know that at one time Banbury had two stations side by side. The small one was closed down before I was born but part of the line was use as a feeder to Banbury livestock market. As a kid I use to walk this old line out to King Sutton.
Wow, gotta love Banbury. Amazing variety of freight, prototype class 168/0 and the best of the class 68. On your opinion, would you say that for freight, The Chiltern Mainline is just as popular for freight as Great Eastern Mainline?

Honestly I don't know why Chiltern haven't really invested in any new trains besides the what 3 68-82 sets they have, the 168s, as seen in this video, look old, worn and well on their way to going out of service, idk maybe if/when Transpennine eventually finish upgrading their fleet and getting rid of the 185s Chiltern should jump on the chance to get those and run them as 6 car sets

My 1st job was at Banbury's station when I was 16, I am 73 this year and the station had not changed apart from the car park.
@@jimcarpenter5775 Woah. That is kinda crazy but I do think Oxford will get renovated soon due to East-West Rail but dunno when exactly...

CrossCountry has free reign on Britain’s Rail Network, as the trains use any line going to and from Aberdeen, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.
What happened to you filming at Eastleigh and Southampton Central
I've noticed the man that did platform 3 has stopped odd
