Hey Paul! Wondering if you knew what effect the shape of the reflector has on the transverse to longitudinal wave? Does the shear to L-wave mode conversion only happen on a corner trap/notch, or do you also see that interaction on a SDH for instance? Im trying to get some insight on calibrating for a refracted L-Wave inspection in stainless. Appreciate all you do!

Oh definitely! When sound strikes a hole, the impingement angle is always changing. But the relative surface area of that target is going to be much smaller so it will be harder to see.

@hollowayndtengineeringinc.5201 thanks for the response! I've been hearing a lot of back and forth about stainless/coarse grained welds lately in my neck of the woods, so I'm trying to play around with the tools I'm allowed to have for now. Its definitely an interesting inspection, but I'm still skeptical about the impact that the grain boundaries supposedly have on shear waves. Refracted L-Waves and a mockup weld seem like overkill for a scenario where transfer correction should suffice. But, I'm always happy to be wrong if it means I get so learn something new so 🤷

Thanks for your helpful videos . I think u have good experience in the phased array devices which one is the best choice as capabilities and user friendly. Thanks again

All major instruments from Olympus, Eddyfi/M2M, Sonatest and Zetec are excellent choices. My personal preference may not be the same as yours. I have not used all types equally so my opinion should not be considered a thorough evaluation. However, the one that fits me the best is the Sonatest Veo+ or Veo3. Thanks for watching!
