It's so I can write in C and apply that melody/chord to any track by shifting it up or down. It's called "transposing", pointless here as I'm just playing a single note, but it's habit when I produce
@@deoananas4745 I have never heard or seen other than Dash doing that. You learn most of the scales anyways while doing music. Only sure way to not learn anything is to stick with C and use transpose. Also it's really hard to colloborate when others are WTF are these notes? Also when you copy-paste midi to another track you need to re-do the transposation every time. Here is a tip: Use midi transpose effect in your track so you can still play in C but the actual notes in the DAW will be the correct ones. or even better: Get a midicontroller that has transpose function.
@@digidope there are more ways of transposing in cubase. I don't want to name artists but there are plenty who are doing it not just for midi notes but for samples, for tempo, for whole synthesis using all kinds of approaches including frequency shifters, pitch shifters, you name it, not just default transpose.
@@deoananas4745 yeh, but this was just about one being too lazy to actually learn any other scale than C minor. Also: Why even bother with C minor when A minor would be just the white keyes :D
Dear Dash, please make more of these videos on mid bass design in techno, deep progressive house etc. It is not well documented and really adds a unique character to tracks
Awesome Dash! I would love to see tutorials of you selecting kicks and making basses for these tuff sounding housey grooves! It can be difficult to know when to have a long kick tail and short bass or vice versa
awesome as always! i have to say in the past i commented something negative to you.. i was wrong man. pure knowledge here, and sharing it just makes you better. thank you 🙏
Awesome video mate. Second the request for more techno mid bass stuff, some of the synths almost sound like they talk like formant filters but it's not and I can't figure them out
Cheers, this is timely and useful. 6 tracks into a new album now and I'm planning for the 7th and 8th to be more uptempo so this could be something I'll include.
It is actually quite easy to do just about the same thing in Phase Plant. You just need to play with the sync of an Analog oscillator. This would allow one not to only use sine wave osc but also saws and squares.
Cool video. Unfortunately, I'm not in front of Bitwig right now, but as I was watching it, I thought how cool it would might sound when taking an instrument layer rack, put vital in, duplicate it, and separate the oscillators. So, one with the sine waveform, the other with the harmonic wave, and then to process the harmonic one with filters plus :-)
Hey Dash, are there bitwig Tutorials on your Patron as well? Started now doing things in bitwig, but it‘s a bit like struggeling drunk thru a darkroom…
Cool video mate! you could use an envelope to raise osc2's level instead of a macro, also you can get the growl sound on any filter swept sound using a multiband distortion plugin, Trash2 is good 4 it :)
True but macros makes it easy to fine-tune after you have the template, also trash2 is long discontinued right? I try not work with too much discontinued software because it could be tomorrow it doesn't work anymore, so Rift is my current replacement. It's lacking some features but does others much much better
I agree, Rift is sick! I'm an old guy that's why I'm hoarding Trash2, thanks for your great work on the channel BTW, i recently bought Vital and found your "50 Tips & Tricks For Vital" it's an awesome video, it was everything i needed to know
Explain to viewers the "tune to the key by transpose" as pretty much nobody does that.

i do it and lot of guys i know do it

Dude when you threw RIFT on there and tweaked the FX section a bit my jaw dropped. Great stuff as always Dash ❤

ok good call, there's a bit of a trick there, I'll make a video for sure!

This is also a guide to making dirty wobble bass if one is a bit experimental.
You the man Dash, big love and thanks from Cornwall.
Much appreciated
Very cool. Assigning Ring Modulation from OCS2 to OSC1 in your example also gives that gnarly sound... a different flavor.
YYYYOOOO, Ive been searching for this lately!❤ very good.
Excellent sound design for cinematic and trailer style music too. Great method.
Dope tutorial - we love a good growl

pedagogic and creative video. great to finish a long day digging the music while you create. when you put on rift!
ohmann, exacly this one ! I tried it several methods already but you do it so well thought out! Thank you!!! (staple sound in Dark Prog)
Wonderful! I didn't even realize but now that you mention it I hear that in Dark prog!

Indeed, and on top of that for even more interesting timbre, you can pitch bend the top layer harmonic very slightly
The Space Laces techno growl... I forget who did it, I think it was XLNT but they nailed it in a tutorial not long ago.
It's not a particularly new technique, it's been a thing since like 2010 tbf
Cheers Dash, that was really informative. Will try that after work 😂
Have fun!
Thanks for your videos. I learned a lot from you.
Nice one Dash :)
08:30 - massive! 🤩
Thx for that, love you showing how to do it in Bitwig
Wow! Simple and effective
Thanks a lot
At this point cant we all just agree that Hypnotic Techno is Prog Psy from the 00s? 😂
Did you release a Techno EP Dash? If not you definitely should 🙂
Not yet, yea I might in the future, I like more melodic stuff though

No exclusive videos on patreon, but there's a masterclass on my store and patreons get a nice discount on that

i'm not sure if it was a fever dream, but what happened to the live of you making the ambient jungle track?
the link is in my discord
Hey Dash, how would you approach making this sound on Phaseplant? Would you go with FM, LFO, or use the same method? Cheers, your videos are dope!
Same way, but with the Analog Sine you have a harmonic control directly on the osc
Do you have a tutorial on how to male a acid sound like used here? Lead or arp or whatever youd call it
Bro really spoiling us with this one! Frothing
BIG UP !
cant find a similar wavetable to that harmonic sine in serum i feel like a noob
