I'm new to this, but I just found 2 Greek coins in a basket I bought at a yardsale. They look very different from any coins I've seen before. I'm here to find out exactly what I've got. Thank you for this video. It's very educational.
You've got good material here no doubt about it; but please slow down your reading. You will convey your knowledge far more effectively if you slow down and use a little more expression. I subscribed the other day by the way.
So I was looking at the description of an ancient Greek coin on an auction website, and where it has both the diameter and weight of the coin listed, it also had " 1h " adjacent to the size and weight measurements. What does the " 1h " refer to?
Never mind, I found someone who knew what it meant. It refers to the orientation of the reverse side of the coin, in relation to the obverse. For example "12h" means both sides have the top of the portrait straight up (in relation to each other). Whereas if it says ^6h" it means the top of the portraits on each side of the coin, are oriented 180 degrees different to each other (i.e. just as it is on most U.S. coins.)
do you know much about foil or tin foil coins. I came across one that was stuck between 2 uncleaned roman coins. Its silver not sure how much alloy but the coin is very thin, any ideas
Hey love your videos man. This info you share is worth gold. Btw I’ve had a hard time identifying a few coins and I’d like to send you a pic maybe you can help me or guide me? Let me know thanks!
Pumpkintown Primitives there are many struck by the Ptolemaic empire that have the PHAROAH on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse. There are also a bunch of Baktrian coins struck by Euthydemos I and Eukratides I and II that have no gods it deities. Even though they don’t depict the gods, there are still representations. 99.9% of Greek coins in some way or another represent the olympians. There is no avoiding it, it was just a way of life back then.
@@coindoctor5035 thank you! I would love to get an original Greek Coin Someday as I have an original Hebrew one. As a Christian I dont want to own a coin that depicts a pagan diety so this is helpful. I will be on the lookout! You are well versed in this material and I congratulate you on such a great video and Channel! Subscribed!
@@pumpkintown Hey, I'm a very hardcore Christian as well. But I own coins of emperor Nero and evil pagan kings anyway. I think it's more about the history than the ideals, but that's my opinion. You do you man, I respect that you want to keep your faith strong.
@@coindoctor5035 I am glad to hear that you are a Christian! Praise the Lord! And I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work my friend! If you ever have any Greek Coins that you think of that you would want to part with that dont have deities on them I would love see what you would want for them. I have learned a lot from your videos already. Thanks! David
You really should consider re-recording the VO of your video. And slow down. You read far too quickly, without pauses or emphasis, and without sufficient enunciation. I couldn’t understand most of what you were saying, and I am highly motivated to learn what you have to teach. You clearly know a lot that’s worth knowing and teaching to others. Just a suggestion. I think you’ll find more subscribers and likes if you try recording it again, keeping in mind what I’ve indicated. Thanks for the information, and the imagery!
I love ancient Greece. So getting a chance To FINALLY understand how all their money works is life-saving information. Really appreciate it!
True. If I didn't have this information, my kidnappers would have put me in their trebuchet.

on the wildwinds website when you're looking up a coin, what's the column on the left where it says something like "Newell 246"?
