Der Stuka is the regular body slide. Bomb Bay is the dropbox slide. There were two Bomb Bay attractions (Orlando and Las Vegas). Originally the capsules were motorized...you boarded then the capsule moved forward over the slide before the door opened.
There are several other firsts other than Der Stuka at this park. The Black Hole, which replaced Corkscrew, was one of the first themed enclosed waterslides. The reason I say "one of the first" is that Wet 'n Wild opened the same ride at two of their other water parks at the same time on the same day. Der Stuka was the first of its kind speed/body slide. Bomb Bay, on the same tower, was the worlds first drop slide. It should be noted when Bomb Bay first opened, riders boarded standing up and then the capsule was moved over the slide to be dropped. The park also had the nations second or third oldest wave pool.
Ranger I hope they don't scrap black hole or if they sell it, the new owner doesn't scrap the effects or theming cause it's pretty good for a water slide...
correction wet n wild was founded in 1977 by SeaWorld creator George Millay and is considered America's first water park. Millay never worked for Disney.
Such a shame this park had to close, it had such innovative slides, and although I only went once, I had a blast (pun intended)! I'm extremely pumped up for Volcano Bay though!
Just to clear up the confusion in the comments, this will not be home to a new Nintendo park. A Nintendo theme land will replace the current kids zone at the studios.
If there is more land next to the plot the could buy they would be able to add another theme park. which would be cool or they could just build hotels.
Coaster Labs No. Universal is using it for their new watermark. Whenever I drive by it to go to work, they're already starting construction. They're using this park for the extra space for the park.
This is not correct. Volcano bay is on a completely different plot of land that is part of the main Universal Resort, and is already well under construction. Wet n Wild is a separate property located just down the street from the resort. It is likely that this area will become another park or attraction down the line, but is in no way related to Volcano bay. At this time it has not been announced what it will become, but my money is on a new park of some sort.
Dang it looks dead.... poor park was in the wrong location just can't compete with other things in Orlando... put it near Houston or Columbus or Pittsburgh and I'm sure it would do amazing
The numbers were actually quite good for this park year after year. I think Universal just has dollar bills in their eyes right now and seeing a road to even more money. Also this was on a weekday in September just minutes after rope drop.
i wish i could revisit this place.. this was my child hood
Same with me😢

So are many of these slides being sold off and relocated or are they getting scrapped?
I would imagine they'll sell off everything they can. There's some good stuff!

That is correct. I was relying on my memory which fails me at times.
sonya bray George Millay is also one of the cofounders of SeaWorld. There's a really good book about George called "The Wave Maker".

The drop box slide was called "The Bomb Bay". Der Stuka was the regular drop slide next to it.
im gonna miss this park :( but im somewhat excited to see what comes next
I going to miss this water park and correct me if i am wrong was this the first water park in orlando.
Gosh, thanks for this video. Didn't know it was going away. I once considered it one of my FAV water parks in FL. Kinda sad about this.
I'm sad that i'll never get to visit it myself

Nintendo replacing the current kids areas at Universal Studios Florida is a likely scenario, but it is not confirmed at this time.
Which ride is your favorite
How did the water park going out of business after 39 years

why u get rid of greatwater park neeheh
Wondering if this could be used for universal's Nintendo park?
Just That Guy no, Nintendo will replace kids zone at the studios
What will they replace it with? Probably something to do with Nintendo...

Scatt so they're essentially scrapping the plot?
Yes.

It's actually in a pretty prime location in Orlando. This is clearly the off-season, so it was bound be dead. In the summer it was crowded as hell.
The crowds were always thick when I went in the summer.
Universal will do someday. Volcano bay is gay.
the park sucked anyway
