The husband in this movie upset me more than the actual villain
IKR! I've loved this movie since I was a teenager but he irk's me to no end. Like I know he think's she's a kid but he wasn't even willing to consider a behavioral issue. And even if you look past that if you were this concerned about your wife's behavior . . . He was so resentful and quick to demonize her. Also like this child who, if you believe the history, is horrifically traumatized but she is 100% flawless? That's harmful to the kid. I really tried to meet him halfway. Refusing to believe the nun was strike 1, ignoring changes in kids behavior was strike 2. Completely overlooking the fire . . . Strike 3.

I actually lowkey kinda rooted for Esther throughout this whole film just because I was so entranced with how the actress was absolutely killing the conniving child role. Like Isabella Fuhrman was 12 yrs old at the time when she filmed this and she ate her role and left no crumbs.

If there's one thing Chuuzus is going to do it's be so genuinely empathetic towards women that it makes me tear up out of nowhere 😩🥲
With kids in the foster care system etc often they would want to lock the bathroom door and stuff because they have experienced sexual abuse in the past. (obviously not the case in this film but just saying). Anyway, so glad i found your channel i don't think i have genuinely laughed at a TH-camr's videos like this in ages, this was my favorite horror film when i was younger as well so love to see someone reacting to it.
Even without sexual abuse, a child needs some type of privacy. She appeared old enough to not need assistance in the bathroom and if you are afraid she’ll get hurt then you can knock and have a key in case of emergencies. Especially a child who is new to the family, she doesn’t have that bond of “well my family bathed me / I was bathed with my siblings” so why wouldn’t she locked the door. Idk, it seemed very logical for her to lock the door and the fact that this lady thought she could tell her that she shouldn’t when she’s in a house with two guys she barely knows (cuz even without sexual abuse, it would still very awkward and embarrassing if ye brother or dad accidentally walked in)
I think the writers said that Esther was sexually abused in the past by her father, which is how she developed her obsession with "winning over dad" in families. Nice observation on your part.

Orphan is one of the greatest psychological horror movies of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes. The tone and element was scary, creepy, spooky, eerie, dark, gritty, urban, and gothic which works perfectly for the movie. That twist still gives me chills and goosebumps. 😰😱 Isabelle Fuhrman did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Esther Coleman as she put tons of emotion and depth into her role. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎💯👍
First time I watched this I was like twelve and halfway I looked to my mom and went “what if the girl had that thing where she’s actually a grown woman” and then right when the dude said it I was like “BAM”

This movie was def bad publicity for adoption lol 😅. The actress that plays Esther btw has grown into a great actress. I recently saw her in a very interesting movie named The Novice. It was pretty intense.
Have you ever watched this movie on dvd? There’s an adoption commercial on it with the rest of the previews. lol they make it a point to say that the orphan is based on fictional characters not real children. Then go on to tell you how there are so many “real” kids out there waiting to be adopted.

@@astronomicallyfine yes, i was 4 when i first watched the movie. my mom used to by horror dvd's and she watches them with me. i always had vivid memories of the movie so i rewatched it again when i was about 11. i even still have some bits of memories of the other horror movies i watched as a kid, but just can't seem to remember the title. unless i stumble on it again.

This movie is based on real case that hapenned in 2007 in Czech Republic, where 30 year old woman Barbora pretended to be 13 years old Anna from Norway and she was adopted and tricked her new "mom" and "aunt" to abuse and torture two of their biological sons ( they were about 6-8 years old). Barbora run away to Denmark and then to Norway, where she pretended to be 13 years old Adam. She was brought back to Czech Republic but was sentenced in prison only for 5 years and was released in 2012.
Fact: the man who tells the mother that Ester is 33 years old woman is great czech actor Karel Roden

I went into this knowing a critic on the back of the DVD case spoke of a "jaw dropping twist", although I honestly felt what's revealed hurts the movie overall. An adult killing people is still horrible, of course. Yet it's less disturbing compared to a kid killing people. Why The Good Son really stuck with more.
But a dwarf intercepting a family with killer motives is just as chilling..its def what separates it from the good son

I just feel The Good Son felt more sinister from the sociopath actually being a kid via logic in the film itself and hurting his own family as well. I'd go into more context, yet that would involve spoiler territory which a random viewer here won't appreciate. The controversy I read surrounding Culkin being cast isn't something I take lightly, either. Peter Sarsgaard's character also irritated me beyond belief. He's known for portraying aggravating or even aggressive people, but in Orphan I felt he was entirely intolerable.
