    In this video we build the brand new Spitfire model from Eduard in 1/48 scale, this model comes from the dual combo profipack boxing of the Spitfire story, a brand new release for 2020. The kit features fine recessed rivets and panel lines with raised rivets around the cockpit section of the fuselage.
    This video is part 2 of a 2 part video build series, I have created a playlist for this build series so be sure to save it!

    It is nice to see that we are not alone when having problems with kits and things going wrong. Too often you end up thinking it is my fault, I have done something wrong when the instructions aren't that clear or there is a mistake. Though a straightforward build there were still plenty of things I learnt from it. Thank you.

    Don't change your presentation style, perfect as is! Nice to see someone have issues as well during the build. BTW Micro Set first than Micro Sol to get the decals to draw down tightly.

      A french guy found, by chance, how to manage this decal's extra film. Once the decal is well set and after a full day, simply apply a masking tape in a corner and the film comes almost alone ! I tried this and it works like a charm.

    Thanks for your video; very informative as I have been working on the XT W version of the Mk1a. Being my first Eduard kit ever, I was amazed by the level of details and moreover, how well even the smallest parts fitted together. Decals went on with me without any problems nor removal of coating: 5 layers of micro sol and set did the job.

    Hi, thank you for a very nice video. If I can be picky :) I believe these strips on the fuel tanks are not armor plating, quite the opposite. They are the structural straps that hold the tank onto the fuselage structure (that tank held almost 500lbs of gas!). On the subsequent versions of the Spitfire one does not see these strips since the later tanks did have armor plating, making the structural strips invisible. Now I am sure some real experts would perhaps disagree? Haha. Happy model building and thanks again for the video.

  • @jjp_nl
    @jjp_nl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A nice kit indeed it seems (with a few Eduard later MK Spits under the belt I feel I know what I can expect) Suffers from some quirky Eduard ' why make it clever and easy if we can make it difficult' engineering in the familiar areas. I didn't mind the Weekend Edition decals either, worked great on every Eduard kit I've built sofar. Not to mention the Cartograph decals that were included from time to time. I most certainly will look for after market in the decal department after hearing about these new style decals.

  • @mattperson7293

    I wonder if one of those stronger decal setting solutions would help? I'll probably get a masking set for all the big markings I suppose.
    One thing to note, I believe the front leading edge panel rivets on all Spits were actually puttied on the real aircraft, so rivets would be virtually invisible.. no need for the re-riveting with Rosie. I could be wrong about that but I've read it in a few places.
    Thanks for the video Jason, lovely job, blazing a trail!

      All Spitfire model manufacturers put panel lines and rivets on the wing leading edge. However it was puttied and painted smooth with primer. There's a period video on repairing the paintwork somewhere on the net where it's shown. I'll see if I can find it, and I'll put a link if I do.

      @@mattperson7293 Hi Matt, here's the link on painting Spitfires. The part about the leading edge of the wings starts at 18:34 or 03:20 of the video time. I think the version in the video is a MK II, but the streamlining of the wings started with the prototype. I like your videos, which are informative and get to the point quickly. I'm a fairly new modeler, so I'm not looking forward to the decals at all. I've also seen other videos where they're proving to be problematical. I may even buy some aftermarket replacements. www.awm.gov.au/collection/F02334/

  • @Mors_Inimicis

    These new decals sound like they are causing problems, and they won’t solve silvering so it’s difficult to see what their benefit is🤔
    Great 2nd part of the build, I’m curious to start on mine so I can make my mind up .
    I have recently been painting my own insignia on an early Tamiya Spitfire and have ordered a Topnotch insignia mask set to use so I can hopefully dodge the Eduard decals on at least the main insignia.
    Great build by the way 👍🏻

    Poor decal performance should never force one into a corner, but perhaps the lifting of decal colors could be incorporated into the overall weathering scheme. Also, I use Walther's decal setting solution, which in my experience, is the most aggressive and nearly turns decals into liquid. If not used with extreme care, it can completely ruin a decal. While I've not used this type of decal, I'd bet that the Walther's could have settled those Eduard decals as desired.
    Anyway, very nice build in spite of the difficulties.

    You are one of those who got me back into modeling and it is not appropriate for me giving you "tips" but putting decals on any other surface than high gloss coat is asking for trouble.Also noticed how your decal solution did not want to stay there.

    • @ChampionScaleModelling
      @ChampionScaleModelling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad to have helped you find the hobby! Your tips are very appropriate, regarding the gloss coat etc, the point of the video was to ‘test’ these decals under the same conditions I’d approach any other. The reason they lifted is because they didn’t adhere, which is the same issue that creates silvering so for these decals you may very well be right that the answer lies with a very high gloss coat, more practice is needed with these! Thanks for the advice 👍
