What a cool idea! I started to cook through the USA alphabetically and what each state was known for, but I fizzled out. You've reignited the foodie flame!
I am doing that with the Spanish provinces ❤ it’s really challenging to find the quality ingredients sometimes, but soo worth it 😊
That sounds really fun actually! Get back into it! Which state was your favorite so far?
Instead of lobster rolls for Maine there are some less typical options despite it always being the one on lists. Wild Maine blueberries are world famous. The birthplace of many of the most beloved donuts. I just feel like the lobster roll has been over done and obsessed over.
I love you two - Jessi, you do such a great job with finding out the history of food before you highlight it. I also love how you show graphics. Thank you for all of the fun "escape and educational" videos. Keep em coming.
Thank you so much! We’re really glad you enjoyed it. I love history and interesting facts so this video was fun to put together!
Back in the 80s when Jelly Bellies came out, they were really revolutionary. Before that you only got the kind of jelly beans that came in Easter eggs. The fact that Jelly Bellies had all these different flavors and you can mix and match them like peanut butter and jelly, made them really novel.
Oooo mix and match? Didn’t even think about that!
Didn't like Jelly Belly. But, I like the old fashioned large jelly beans.
@@lindacruz7378 I like the old fashioned ones too. I like to nibble the crunchy sugary part of the outside before eating the jelly part of the inside.
Chicken Fried Steak has to be made correctly. You don't just take a piece of steak, bread it and fry it. You have to take a piece of thin steak, I use Round Steak, pound it until it's thin and tender, then dip the pieces in flour/milk/flour, then fry it. Then you make gravy with the leftover drippings and serve with mashed potatoes. It's amazing!
Yes. It’s comfort food at its finest. You can’t confuse steak with CFS. You can’t order one and expect the other.
100!
Actually it's better if it's not thin. It dries out too quickly. But it does have to be tenderized. You can beat it with a meat mallet or ask the butcher to tenderize it for you. Thin looks pretty but us usually dry as a shoe.
I'm confused that a Southern girl doesn't even know what country fried steak is. I dunno wth that was in the video
@@jayneliberty3429 Like I said, I always use round steak, and it turns out perfect every time. When I said thin, I just meant thinner than what they had.
I have always added butter, salt, and a little pepper to my corn cobs. It brings out the sweetness of the corn.
Try roasting it with mayo and Cheyanne pepper if you like spice, Sprinkle with care.
Ohhh; Mexican street corn (elote`)! So delicious! Starts with grilled, slightly charred, corn on the cob. Then, season with mayo, a hot
chili powder, and queso Fresca (a dry, crumbly, salty cheese). Or, just remove it from the cob and add the above seasonings. So good!
@@angelarasmussen1800 I'm a basic white bitch, and my spice level is very low. 😅
@@kaymcmahonclay7127 do they make it in a mild spice level? 😆
The biggest shock was Jessi enjoying the Cheeseburger Pizza. Be careful of the ever vigilant Alessio and his tingling Italian senses! 🤣
I've made chicken fricassee and it is wonderful!!! Some of these I wish I could have made home made for you! So fun to see all these! Thanks guys!
Pickled herring is common in Scandinavian countries; as part of a “Smorgasbord” buffet, having it with hearty rye bread, cold meats, smoked salmon with dill, various cheeses, pickled cucumbers, boiled onions, beet salad, and potatoes - it can be delicious because it adds a saltiness, tartness and smooth texture.
yes, I love pickled herring:) and I am Mexican, come on - give it another try
Ok maybe we need to try it in combination with things rather than by itself haha
@@ThePasinis If you can find a good Scandinavian restaurant that serves a nice Smorgasbord, or a good Jewish deli, it might be a fun experience!
I always ate it on top of a cracker! So yummy 😊
@@madelinegoshgarian640 yes, the contrast of flavor and texture was important.
Well when you grow up eating certain food, you will love it throughout your life. You aren’t very likely to change your mind about it even if you get richer and become able to eat more expensive food.
So true! Food is very nostalgic and comforting. Brings you back to your roots!
Pot roast- chuck roast, carrots and whole onions( peeled of course). Slow cooker. I pack of beefy onion Lipton soup, follow directions on pack. Make sure to season the meat. The beef will be super tender and so will the veggies. Serve with mashed potatoes if you want to. I add a half cup of red cooking wine to the soup mix before adding, is sooo good.
John Adams "His highness"?! LOL 😂. Like a king.
Well he was born a British subject…
No. A King you adress as "Majesty" not "Highness". This is the adress for Dukes.
@@Visitkarte Well there is a presidential candidate who WANTS to be king/ dictator.
I think the full title was “His Highness, the President of the United States of America and the Protector of their Liberties” 😅

Leather britches “green beans and bacon” are a specific type of way to preserve green beans. They’re picked whole, strung on thread, then slowly dried.
When cooked, they have to be reconstituted with water, and usually cooked with bacon because of the grease.
My experience puts chicken as a closer sub for squirrel. We usually had squirrel gravy over biscuits.
Ham and corn bread was likely soupier cooked ham, use the corn bread to wipe the plate.
I agree with all of that. Although I never cared for squirrel, my Dad loved it.
I'm thinking squirrel stew is like Brunswick stew.
You guys are great!! New England boiled dinner if you aren’t Irish is a smoked shoulder (pork/ham), carrots, potatos, onions and turnip. A blast from my Maine past!
Oh! I always thought it was made with corned beef; not pork!?
@@kaymcmahonclay7127it's adjustable based on what you have really. Each family developed preferred versions as refrigeration came along and choice meats were more easily available.
being from Massachusetts, if you ever come up this way you must try a bowl up here because that bowl of clam chowda looked sad lol
and lobster bisqu
This is fun! As an American, I still know SO little of our US history, so I’m currently reading a biography of every president in order. I started this year and just finished John Quincy Adams. This video dovetails nicely with what I’m reading 😀
What a fun video! I have to say that pasta with butter and cheese has always been one of my go-to meals. From childhood until now, well into adult hood, I still love simple buttered pasta with Parmigiana Reggiano cheese. I like it with almost any pasta, but I like it best I think with Spaghetti Rigati. It's simple and comforting and always good no matter how you're feeling or what the weather is outside. ❤
Pickled herring is eaten in northern Europe on rye bread with raw onion😅
You are right! For that reason I am glad to be half Bavarian and half Italian.😅😅
And eaten like that, it's delicious. Rough-cut orange marmalade on rye bread is good too.
@@stephensmith2601 With the orange marmelade on rye bread I am with you.
You should do a series of Italian, UK and french prime ministers. This was a really cool idea
we was thinking about it! We try to see if people enjoy this video because it was a lot work! grazie mille per il commento
George: "Look at that delicious hoe cake!"
Martha: "What did you just said?"
George: "Er... in that bakery... my favourite food, yes!"
Martha: 🤨
George: 😅
New englander here, you have to boil everything together, so the salty meat flavors the veggies and potatoes. You put loads of butter on it and serve it with a side of mustard (with whole mustard seeds) and horseradish sauce. Try it again, you'll love it.
To make chili better you need to add sour cream cheddar cheese and some fresh dice onion with a little bit of jalapenos
this is my favorite video of yours so far. Such a fun idea!
Yay! Thank you!
Imagine if one of the presidents favourite foods was Olive Garden's Chicken and Shrimp carbonara...
😅
Alessio helped me how to choose pasta, how to cook basic sauce and pasta and how to put basil, olive oil and even how to grate cheese on top (make it a powder). I wish you made more cooking videos! :) Maybe also Southern food recipies from Jessi!
That looked like canned beef stew… which I can understand why it is pass, well at least the first time you tried it. Why not make real beef stew? So good and not even in the same category as canned stew. It makes me shudder. Canned stew is like giving Alessio spaghettios as a representation of Italian spaghetti lol.
Chicken and white gravy is made by making a roux with the chicken grease left over from frying it and then turned into a cream gravy and it’s amazing and even better than pepper or country gravy. It would be so cool to see Alessio learn to make American classics.
Ditto to clam chowder and pot roast, has to be home made, I doubt these presidents were eating pre packaged stuff until we got to jelly belly’s lol. Interesting video though.
Pickle herring on pumpernickel bread sliced raw onions and mayonnaise. It’s an awesome sandwich.
I prefer pickled herring with hot boiled (peeled) potatoes.
@@GilbertDigby and it can be in a wine sauce, or in a cream sauce, or with mustard flavoring, or with dill. The onions in the sauce also can be pickled and add to the flavor. And the darker the bread, the heartier the flavor. 🙂
How did you pass the beef stew when you pretended it was squirrel but loved it when it was just beef stew lol
I came to say the same thing, she literally said it being beef didn't save it, and then smashed the beef stew later. XD
I think because she had to pretend it was really squirrel because that's what the President loved. She knew she wouldn't have eaten squirrel in reality.
I think from the look of it, it was two different recipes. I could be wrong though.
Wow what a big job you did!
Greetings from Hungary!
In Hungary the beef stew called as goulash soup..thats the realy..
Alessios taste is very southern european...but europe is more than as italian and french kitchen.
Thanks for the channel!
Yes, that's what bothered me, too! (Viennese here ...)
The different "stew"-dishes needed to be cooked like goulash (or "ragout" in Italian): many hours! So the meat cannot be hard, but is soft and tender. And all the flavours mix together. Comfort food!
Franklin Roosevelt was the first physically disabled person to be President of the United States. How can you forget that important fact!
Poopin' Joe was our first MENTALLY disabled President.
Leather britches in my area means.. dried beans (dehydrated) then cooked. It totally changes the taste of the beans.
You should rinse the jar of kraut and strain it then eat it. Some people also put a pinch of sugar and or caraway seeds in it
Squirrel is very good. My preferred way too fix it is with dumplings and gravy.
I grew up on wild meat. I would try squirrel.
@@Ccamero123 i think a lot of people just see a cute little squirrel and can’t get past that, same with rabbits. Wild meat is fantastic!!
@@PamelaWelsh-w8z I’ve eaten wild rabbits too. If my Dad didn’t hunt we wouldn’t have eaten.
Try your apple pie with cinnamon ice cream!! Total SMASH!
What a great idea 💡!!! This was a lot of fun to watch. I also loved the additional details you gave on each president. Molto grazie! ❤😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love pickled herring! You should try the versions that come in mustard sauce or tomato sauce.
Another fun filled episode.
The fried pork skin is known in the UK as pork scratchings and my wife tells me that they contain good stuff, like omega 3 etc, I Love them.
How about doing a Vlog on Pecorino and the different types and flavours thereof.
E vai Thomas Jefferson 🇮🇹! Bella questa puntata ed interessante: grazie mille! Un abbraccio ragazzi e Misa 😘
This was great!! Wonderful idea! ❤
Absolutely hysterical! Alessio likes Cheeseburger pizza! WE GOT HIM PEOPLE!
Loved it!!!! You guys put a lot of work into your videos and it shows.
That was fun! Thank you!
Come on guys ... pickled heering is a stable in Denmark, served on rye bread with raw onion rings 😀
@@CarstenBreidahl right! It is not a “main dish” that is fine eaten by itself, like a roast or stew, but is more like a side dish, best with other items.
@@Dej24601 Well ... yes it can be a main dish, 'sildebord!
@@CarstenBreidahl true!
New England boiled dinner is made from smokes pork hocks potatoes carrots onions and cabbage. Cooked together in one pot like a stew. What you made was corned beef without cabbage.
Squirrel is good eatin.
I love pickled herring but only probably twice a year. With a white bun, a bit onion and a pickle.
Since i was a child.. parmesan and butter has been my favorite way to eat noodles. Im forty now and still love it.
LOVE FOR THE WELL DONE STEAK!!
My grandparents had German ancestry and added a bit of brown sugar to sauerkraut to eliminate the bitterness. We still do this when we cook kraut and pork.
You all need the real clam chowder homemade, not from a can. There is a BIG difference! Alessio would love it!
Is that beef stew from a can??? I mean, that stuff is nasty. Homemade beef stew with a healthy splash of red wine and fresh herbs is incredible. Okay, moving further along, some of these foods are horrible looking. Are they frozen? I mean, clam chowder is excellent but not from a can or a container, it has to be homemade. The chicken fried steak didn't even look like chicken fried steak. There again, outstanding when prepared properly. Sorry, but I've been a professional cook, I can't help myself 😄
I completely agree and came to say the same. These were terrible representations of what would be good food if not from a can.
Pickled herring was somewhat of a staple in my family, and I love it. And clam chowder is super yummm...both New England and Manhattan. And chicken fried steak is so delish. I could possibly even get behind squirrel stew? Maybe?? But cottage cheese and ketchup...the texture and flavor? 🤢
Pot roast should really melt in your mouth, too. Give me all the black jelly beans! Pork rinds are such a great snack! I'm a pass of fast food...in general. And Dubbya can keep his cheeseburger pizza. Leave pizza alone! I can't eat ice cream...but my partner can't keep it in the freezer cuz it would disappear.
I see you wearing blue! I hope it's a nod in the right direction. Please vote blue!!!!! 💙
I've never heard of Hoppin' John, probably because I'm from Canada, but I do enjoy a vegetarian dish with beans. Yours looked so good! I'm going to try making it without the ham. I really enjoyed this video. I learned a lot! Thank you!
Thank you for all of the effort that went into making this video!
Leather britches were dried green beans that were rehydrated then cooked for a few hrs with ham ( like dried beans that were soaked then cooked); nothing like fresh green beans with bacon
So I didn’t know sweet potato casserole was a thing and now I really want to try it 🤣❤️
Teddy Roosevelt’s Fried chicken with white gravy is what we know as Maryland fried chicken! A very good good choice.
for cremey scambled add a bit of milk when whisking(it prvent from drying /burning), and grated chees so good
You can also use a smoked shoulder for the New England boiled dinner. I don't think I knew anyone who used corned beef.
The Bushes also loved Tex Mex food as Laura Bush told in an interview.
Sweet potatoes cassarole needs brown sugar, crushed pecans, and melted marshmallow on top!
Having had boiled dinner as a child growing up in Rhode Island, had no idea it went back that far.
New England Clam chowder. Pure comfort seafood. 😋
Aww, kitty.
pasta with butter and garlic powder best snack Luv, pastina with egg cooked in (like egg drop msxed a bit of starch pasta water) and grated cheese delish
Well done steak is an old Americana dish, but as a steak eater, medium rare is as well as I go
Firstly, herring is an acquired taste . Popular in Norway , pickling is a way to preserve the fish for long-term use. The brand makes a big difference, too.
Hi. This is a very interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
This should be pretty good. I know another channel was doing this piecemeal, but I give you props for doing 1 through 46 in fell swoop.
I actually did not know Jefferson visited Italy and liked macaroni and cheese lol that is hilarious.
Chili would be my favorite, but not Obama's. Who will be next, you ask? KFC OF COURSE!!!!!!!!
The way my family has always made rice pudding is different. We'd make egg custard but with rice added to the mixture, so it was hot when first prepared. But I didn't mind it cold out of the refrigerator.
Virginia baked ham is more popular than you think. I've seen some even in some supermarkets in Latin America.
I love pot roast with carrots and potatoes.
Mac and Cheese and Chicken Pot Pie....and of course Apple Pie. I also love pork rinds. I only eat well done steak, if I eat it, which is not often.
Carter's Whitehouse actually made Grit-flavored Cheese. They dump so much cheese into the bowl it's unreal.
Rice Pudding has variations. An Egg Custard Rice pudding has more flavor and you can eat straight from the oven or chilled.
Love pickled herring and also in cream sauce. I was raised on it, I guess it’s an acquired taste. 😀
I had read about this before, so I was just waiting for Nixon to come up, and you didn't disappoint. I don't fathom what that combination was. It's too bad you don't love lamb, Jessi. Lamb French Dip sandwiches with carmelized onions and peppers with au jus are amazing.
You two are a hoot!!! 👍🏼
green beans with bacon is also one of the favourite things my daughter eats.
If that clam chowder came out of a can, I’m not sure it’s any good.
Zachary Taylor should be born in Brazil where we have the best calas, or as we say...bolinho de arroz. I love them ❤😂
I googled hard and the stew you could have tried in place of squirrel is rabbit stew. Apparently squirrel is less lean. Pickled herring is a holiday appetizer around where I live but it better be in the wine sauce if I'm going to eat it. It's that brine that is so delicious.
6:50 Beef and Squirrel would not be equivalent. Rabbit maybe
You can use the rest of your sauerkraut to make the sauerkraut cake.
I came to see Alessio eating squirrel. I want my money back 🤨
10:20 BTW Sauerkraut is Alsatian not german.
How is the squirrel (beef) soup compare with the beef stew? I saw you passed on the soup but smashed the stew. The weirdest one is the cottage cheese with ketchup.
This was so much fun to watch and By The Way, I LOVE pickled herring 😋😋 and clam chowder😋😋 Love all of your videos❤❤❤
I love pickled herring. But I grew up on it being half Swedish and we call it sill
The pickled herring... I think you would have faired better with a tin of pickled herring. My dad loved the pickled herring and kippered snacks. That is a Nordic dish; he grew up in the upper mid west with a heavy Nordic populations.
Ciao Alessio e Jessi, mi è piaciuto tanto il vostro video. Io e mia moglie seguiamo il vostro canale con affetto visto che Io sono Americano e lei riminese, abbiamo molto in comune. Sopratutto abbiamo apprezzato molto i vostri viaggi in Friuli. Saluti da Tampa.
Grits are loved all over the east too
Agreed on the massachusetts part I'm from the inner part of mass and actual new England clam chowder made here is so freaking good. That one looked bad 😅😅
Was watching Jolly and they did food at Dollywood. You should do a video too from there. Would love to see Allesio’s reaction.
Cool video, guys, very creative and great effort trying to find all the foods.👍 By the way, take a short drive to Owensboro, Kentucky and you are in mutton heaven. The town and region is famous for its barbecued mutton from the early Catholic settlers there. To die for, you're too close not to try.
Ma native here. The boiled dinner is made with ham, not corned beef. Although there is a variation of boiled dinner that’s eaten on St. Patrick’s day ( but not always )
Oh get him some fresh whole belly fried clams the right way... please!
Love my Mac & cheese just butter and cheese. YUM 😊
10:30 Sauerkraut is great with grilled sausage
Clams are not fish, they are a type of mussel. And john f kennedy is from Massachusetts and they love clam chowder. Pork rinds is really just fried pork skin. KFC original fried chicken isnt really crispy, its more of a softer fried chicken that isnt actually fried, its pressure cooked in pressure cookers.
I didn’t know that! Seems like false advertising. 😅 I have heard that Chick-fil-A is pressure cooked.
