That Chevrolet add took me back a number of years. Our neighbors were most likely the age I am right now, boy they were so much older than me though, They had 1958 2 door that was flesh color, I called it pink! That was over 50 years they bought a new car in the mid 70's?. I don't have a clue what it was. . But boy I can see that 58 with that big V on the hood and Continental kit and the big crome bumpers, and fender skirts, and dual exhaust. Thanks for sharing your videos!
Amen!!! I owned an Auto Parts store for several years and had books to look up all the parts from tractors to any vehicle. Never had wrong parts and was always informed on Cam sizes, valve sizes, journal sizes, etc. Things you just don't get in a computer. Like clearances, lol it just came on!!
There is no replacement for displacement. Nothing sounds like a large engine. My favorite is the 396 but now the 702 is a bucket list engine, I just have to build a home for it! Thanks for your video!
I absolutely agree about the shop manuals, they have tons of info and my favorite part, the illustrations! Love to see the flames come out the exhaust of that V-12. It'll be interesting to see what kind of exhaust system you decide on for the build. And those 58 Chevy's are pretty cool!

I didn't have this one, but I had both the "MOTOR" Diesel Repair Manual & the "MOTOR" Truck Service & Repair Manual. Worked on a lot of old GMC duese & a 1/2's. Parker Ranch grabbed a bunch from the Marines. I never had the opportumity to see 1 of those 702 V12's. But I got to do a lotta old repair's with my old "MOTOR" Repair Manual's.
Wayland....i just love your videos... That 702 GMC....sure brings back memories.... We use to rebuild them at work....and the V6 GMCs also....alot of those 2 engines were interchangeable....pistons..Rods...Cylinder heads....Wondering what your going to put it in...now that you have the bellhousing and clutch all sorted out...? We had them in the AUTOCAR wreckers... The nose of that Cab stuck Way out infront of the front axle....Its a great Motor for a low and long Rat Rod....but that front end needs to be pretty Robust to support that weight....But ive seen a few of your videos...You have a good mind for engineering....i know youll get it Right....👍keep the videos coming...😁🇺🇸
I had a late 60s GMC with the 351 V6, 4 speed w granny gear, and a 4x4 conversion. That thing would pull a house. I can only imagine having twice that torque.......
The books we need back are catalog's. I've learned alot from reading catalog's. Company's don't want to provide them anymore. I find it easier to find the information in them than searching page after page of the internet. Keep Rocking it out!!!
That ad for the 58' Chevy reminded me of our old station wagon we had. Sadly, that was one tired puppy. It was a, check the gas and fill the oil, type engine. That old six had a LOT of miles on it. You could fog skeeters with that thing if you stomped on it.
I have a small collection of of old technical manuals for cars, trucks that was on the road before I was born. I even have books on Sherman tank erection manuals of Cessna, BOEING B 17 and 747. And engine manuals on the wright cyclone 1820 R and Wright cyclone 3350. I enjoy going through them, and appreciate the design of them. Some of those old books have hand written notes on trouble shooting. I received many of them through family.
I found the Ford shop manual for my tractor and printed it double sided. Took about 2 reams of paper to print it. Always handy to have the service manuals handy.

While we may grow and our habits get more complex and expensive, deep inside I haven't moved too far from saying "booden booden" or " bee fut". I even have my grandkids saying that too.
This is instrastine never seen an engine like this one. Learning something new and you have the book to never seen an engine that has 2 disturber caps. I'll have to show my brother this video he's more of a mechanic than I am.

had some really large shop manuals for old trucks from the 60s, sheep got into the shop,and ate every page out of every book on the shelves.cant replace truck repair manuals that are that old and older ,had all specs for trucks going back to the 20 s ,one book was 6 inches thick and heavy.all that information lost to history. its got to be published somewhere else also.i buy every shop manual i come across, even for foriegn cars .never know when it might come in handy .my father and grandfather were both mechanics,my mothers father was an engineer for ford and borg Warner his grandfather worked for Rolls Royce,in the early days .
Your vid makes me feel like I should never have sold my 1960 DH478, 478 cu” v6. 7.8L Someone dropped that sucker with an Allison at540 trans into a 1973 Ford F-250 2wd pickup truck. That was my first truck and now the local parts yard has it, I could probably go buy it back some day but I bet the chrome is gutted at the very least.

I worked on a Chinese made tractor a couple years ago that the engine adapter/bellhousing held the rear main seal. Bad part was, it DIDN'T have dowel pins, and the bolt holes were a rattle fit. So, the bolts would vibrate, the bellhousing would shift, just a few thousandths of an inch, and eat the rear main every time...
We'll make a gm big block v6 v12 pro outta you yet there Ken! lol! I got's a few of them things ya call books stashed away to......knowledge I got from reading the originals. That v12 sure is sweet!

Talking about it running off one back. When I worked in the gas patch here in Arkansas. Some of the small natural gas compressors were made from V8 Ford engines they ran off one side and pumped natural gas off the other. Distributor cap had a place for 4 plug wires going to it. I never trusted em.
its not really a problem but people like to worry about things for me. hahaha.. it has two timing marks on the balancer. there ya go! easy peasy :) thanks for watching..AND fore being a subscriber for SUCH a long time!! you're an Old timer mannnnnnnn haha preciatecha!!

@@1963impala2drWaylonWire Yeah, I seen that video, had me puckered just a little! 😊 The ones we run set on the ground and had a clutch then the right angle gear box in the column, then a LONG driveshaft up to the prop. If someone was to engage the clutch a little too quickly, the gearbox had to be replaced! Those big 12s had so much torque they could swing a pretty good size prop at 1800 rpm! That was my first car, 200 dollars in 1970. Insurance was 120 dollars a year, gas was 27 cents a gallon. Big back seat in those cars.......

Bill Bunten yes,i would be distrustful also, international scouts used to have a 4 cyl with an 8 cyl. distributor, every other one was blocked off .
plugs wires were on every other point one the distributor cap,ive never been to fond of the idea.
Smith made air compressors like that. Ran bitchin and put out tons of air
Would be really neat to have a 702 with twin 6-71's on it, just low boost more for fun than performance of course :)

ive missed a lot of good stuff because I thought I had the camera running and didnt! haha.. yeah.. we used to time everything by ear.. take it up a hill.. if it pings..back it off a little. haha.. and you're right.. it WAS fun! ahh.. the good ol daze!

As my old High Scrool buddy Hoot Byers would say "That thing's got rhubarb mufflers... rev it up and it says rhubarb, rhubarb." Only in this case it's a lack of muffler rhubarb including the poisonous gasses. :-)
raw rhubarb might be more poisonous than the gasses! haha

Hey Ken, didn't get a chance to see on yours there but those big 12s we run on the wind machines years ago had two batteries to crank them over.
Are you just using one ?

just one battery on mine but I expect in order to turn the whole mechanism.. engine, shaft and prop on a wind machine might take a TON of cranking amps.. or did you fire the engine and then engage the prop?? our wind machines here in the orchards have the prop connected directly to the engine! check out this adventure.... th-cam.com/video/6wn-hA37SRs/w-d-xo.html

Yeah, I seen that video, had me puckered just a little! 😊
The ones we run set on the ground and had a clutch then the right angle gear box in the column, then a LONG driveshaft up to the prop.
If someone was to engage the clutch a little too quickly, the gearbox had to be replaced! Those big 12s had so much torque they could swing a pretty good size prop at 1800 rpm!
