Why All 5G is Not Created Equal

  • The number of names for 5G is confusing: 5G, 5G Ultra Capacity, 5G Ultra-Wideband, 5G Plus, 5G Nationwide, and more. Why so many 5G names? Why so many 5G icons? What's the difference between all these 5Gs? Well, in this Decodr episode, let me show you by discussing low-band 5G, mid-band/sub-6 5G, and high-band/mmWave 5G.
    Thanks to Qualcomm for sponsoring this video. Check out the data from the study Ookla did here for more info: unlockr.co/QualcommOokla5G

    Do carriers like cricket or other small cell carriers use MmWave 5G? I’ve only ever had regular 5G on my phone as shown, but I don’t live in a city so I never got to access 5G+ since cricket uses AT&T’s cell towers.

I got 1.2 gigs down being near one of the nodes. They are small cylinder shaped that go on top of telephone poles or sometimes they have their own poles. Some have 3 small boxes under the node for 5G+ (I have AT&T eleite plan).

    I have a question i hope you’ll see this as your video has explained this to me. My brother and i have have iPhone 13s and are on the same plan however we activated them at different times and i believe he received a new sim. His phone receives the 5g UW icon and i have never once seen that on mine. Would a new sim solve this issue? Thanks!!

    • @REAL-UNKNOWN-SHINOBI
      @REAL-UNKNOWN-SHINOBI ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what frequency the device is connecting to the tower with. Since his device is connecting to the towel with UW he could be connecting with 3.5 gigahertz while you may be connecting with the lower megahertz.

    • @REAL-UNKNOWN-SHINOBI
      @REAL-UNKNOWN-SHINOBI ปีที่แล้ว

      And no a new SIM card would not fix this. Only forcing your device to use that particular frequency would, but sadly Apple locks down the iPhone so much that you simply cannot force the frequencies like you can with an Android device.

    • @TheUnlockr
      @TheUnlockr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s their modems that do it so just like the iPhones that use Qualcomm modems but their own SoC I’d imagine that’s what will happen with the Pixel line or they’ll just use Sub-6 and no mmWave. Unless Samsung made mmWave work in the US finally (but that would be an announcement during that event so at the moment still no one but Qualcomm supports it here)

They also set up and deployed it well to boot! It's also coming to all phones, last month, so it's primed to take off.
