I like Pulp Fiction but it was eerily similar to Mystery Train in terms of the framing of the story and the visual presentation. It is better than Forrest Gump though.
This episode really speaks to Gene and Rogers' growth as TV presenters over the years. Imagine if they would have tried this format in season one. It would have been a disaster.
Goodness Pulp Fiction was robbed by Forrest Gump at the Oscars that year. Interesting fact, the Oscars was on the same day as Tarantino's bday. At least the movie won one award.
Consider this: Most movies that are great and don't get awarded usually are the better films. However, I sincerely don't know if Pulp Fiction is better than Shawshank Redemption, but both movies are better than Forrest Gump (which is no slouch at all).
Yes! I love these episodes. I'm not crazy about any of the acting nominees in this one though but it's still entertaining. BTW are S&E qualified to critique music? Hmmm...
I hate Pulp Fiction, really really really dislike Quentin Tarantino. jmho. Quiz Show was the best of the five nominees for me for Best Picture. There were much better movies but they weren't nominated.
I love how much these two love movies!
I love how much you love that they love movies.
I absolutely loved Quiz Show.
Ed Wood is a must c for all movie fans
They were soooo correct on Pulp Fiction
These guys are legends.
That band really playing the hell out of those two cues.
22:42 ALL of the songs from Lion King are absolute classics. Disney could not do wrong in the early to mid 90s and that proved it in scores.
Alan Menken alone ensured the success of Disney music starting in '89.
Disney had been doing it right since the goshdarned '30s and hasn't hardly slipped until very recently.
Shawshank is an incredible movie
Gene was right about Pulp Fiction. It changed movies.
I’m expert level baby
Classic Ebert jabs here: 21:34 and 29:42
1994 is my favorite year in all Cinema! So many classics
The ‘90s as a whole was an incredible decade for Hollywood and independent film. ‘94 was great as was ‘99.
Mel brooks should've played king george
Pulp Fiction was better than Forrest Gump, Siskel and Ebert nailed it.

I wish I go back and let Ebert know that if you say Hakuna Matata in 2022, everyone knows what you mean.
This was a hell of a year for movies.

Susan Sarandon was superb in The Client.

Both of them hated Leon which I really loved - I think Natalie Portman deserved a nomination

How can one be qualified to discuss whether they like or don’t like some songs?
I was disappointed Travolta & Jackson didn’t win that year.

Pulp Fiction is GARBAGE. Forrest Gump is the best picture, and thankfully it did win Best Picture.
