    If you'd like to see Obsidian Projects support a new view other than the four mentioned, reach out to the developer of that view (for example, Kanban), as they will need to make some changes to make their plugin compatible with Projects.
    THEMES USED: Minimal (dark) and Minimal (light).
    PLUGINS mentioned: Projects, Kanban, Fantasy Calendar, Database Folder.

      Hi Nicole. I am new to this, and I am able to follow aong till 08:52, but then you change the values directly from the columns, and that's not happening in my version. I have to double click the field and edit it like normal text. Is that something up with the plugin, or is it just me?

    This is a great start to a must-have plug-in. It's not quite there for me yet because I have those other plugins working just fine, and I want some functionality like more drag and drop, but I think very very quickly it will be a truly amazing plugin. Hopefully other plugin developers will all get on board making project management easier for everyone.

    I have devoured your Obsidian content, which has changed my daily life, so thank you so much for making this a passion project.
    I don't want to come off as someone who can't wait to correct mispronunciations. Lord knows I mispronounce words all the time, and I'm always super grateful when people take the time to let me know the right way to say it. Maybe someone already helped you out; I don't know; I didn't read any of the comments.
    Kanban is pronounced like the word "on," so it rhymes with Bonbon.
    Again, thank you for all your super helpful content! I appreciate you and all your hard work!

    • @Lucaserik
      @Lucaserik 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's always interesting to hear the original pronunciation of a word but it's not really needed when you are speaking. I am Swedish myself, and if I were to pronounce IKEA i would pronounce it "i·kee·ah", but when I'm speaking English I would pronounce it in the English way, "eye·key·ah". Just like how Mexicans say Mexico as "meh·he·koh" instead of the American mek·suh·kow. This is just much easier way as it doesn't distrupt the flow of your speech. And even when it doesn't, it can come off as a bit pretentious if you insist to do proper pronounciation on many things, like saying "bar·the·lona" or "pari".

    Loving your videos. Very informative. I haven't checked out this Plugin yet but I watched your video with the creator. • @DannyHatcherTech
    @DannyHatcherTech ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not sure what you mean by "unlike plugins like database folder this project view is across all projects".
    If you have your database file in the root folder it will look at every file. You could use a dataview query to pick tags, or just use a filter to show only projects or any other attribute added to a file.
    I like the projects plugin but the functionality is lacking at the moment. It will be exciting to see how this evolves!

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I meant just that-- the project screen that I was showing displays all projects everywhere, selectable from the dropdown menu from the same screen. In Projects, there is no "database file" that is tied to a folder. By contrast, Database Folder creates a file per folder that saves settings for that folder alone. It's a difference in implementation.
      I think what you perceive as a lack of functionality is precisely the strength of Projects. Projects is more of a framework for linking views together-- it's not meant to supply the views by itself. The views that exist were added primarily to showcase the possibilities of this approach, not to be end products in themselves, so critiquing their functionality is moot.

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nicolevdh ah so where dbfolder are files you can query, star and refine like other files, the projects are stored somewhere in the plugin. I assume you can quick access those projects in some way?
      The lack of dragging and dropping in the views in my mind is functionality, other examples like column type (relation, rollup, formula, date time etc) also in my mind are functionality. To me, without those features, the views are more visual than functional.
      I am not sure how useful a visual is without functionality so could you elaborate how my critique is moot?

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as I mentioned in the video, you can access the different projects in the projects screen and switch between them there.
      The issue is that the whole point of the plugin is not the views at all. You refer to Projects as a visual, when that's not what it is. It was created to be a layer that *facilitates* the creation of views. It's like an API endpoint, not the application. The views are an afterthought. Judging it based on the views is like judging a new programming language before anyone's had a chance to use it to build things. Projects is a framework, so it should be judged as a framework.
      This is why Marcus said in the livestream that this was his way to avoid creating views himself. This is also why plugins like Database Folder will work WITH Projects, not be a competitor. Projects needs plugins like DB Folder, Kanban, etc., to be useful-- that's what it was built to do.

    • @DannyHatcherTech
      @DannyHatcherTech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicolevdh Yeah that is what I thought. The DBFolder integration is what I am using. The projects table view, as you state, is an afterthought.
      I think my interpretation was thrown off by your narrative around using 'projects' for the content calendar. My mind went to look at projects as a plugin, which as you say is true but it is more of a framework.
      How we explain that to people I am not sure. My interest is what other plugins will embrace this, we will see 👀

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do already use Projects for my content calendar. I prefer to be able to use the same data for different views than to use three disparate plugins. Even as a bare framework it's already useful for me, but I also expect it to improve as other developers integrate with it.
      Different strokes for different folks!

    Great video Nicole!
    I have a question about project organisation. If you'd have various types of public content (TH-cam videos, podcasts, articles, etc) and also various types of private and clients content (family/friends photos to develop, audio/video/photo work for clients) how would you organize them?
    Would it be project per type of content (videos project, podcasts project, articles project) or just a single project? Would you separate personal/work/public content stuff into separate projects? Again, per content type or just something like "public stuff", "personal stuff", "clients content"?
    I will so much appreciate the answer on this topic from you because I've stuck with this for a plenty of time.

    Great video, like always. I want to ask you 2 things Nicole:
    Metadata that is not in the YAML does not work for me (especially I am going to talk about the table, which is what matters the most to me and would be used the most). That is, they appear in the table as text metadata, whatever their content, but it does not return any value in said table
    Is there a way at least in the YAML to put a value, like "status", with the content of one or more tags, like "#ToDo, #Completed, etc." And that the Projects table shows you not only what is written but also in label format? (To be able to see all the notes with said label and, by the way, make them appear beautiful, because with css you can put the name of a specific label of the color you want)

    Trying this out on a fairly fresh install of obsidian and seeing some discrepancies from what is in the video. Wondering if I don't have something installed to support this that may not be mentioned. For example Templater does not have the option for "Enable Folder Templates". Currently I only have Projects and Templater installed on this instance. Do I need something else that would extend Templater config options, or did Templater change in the day or so since this upload? I am also having issue with Projects Kanban view picking up the status field to map to, but it is late, and that may be on me.

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I just confirmed on a fresh vault myself, and I can still see those options. Are you sure you're looking at TemplateR, the community plugin, not TemplateS, the core plugin? It's really easy to confuse the two!
      Re: the Board view in Projects, did you select the status parameter from the dropdown menu, so it knows which parameter it should use?

    • @Digital_Kyle
      @Digital_Kyle ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicolevdh Weird. Yeah, I am definitely in the Templater options under the Community Plugins Section. In your video the options go from Template Hotkeys to Folder Templates. In my version it goes from Template Hotkeys to Startup Templates. I don't have Folder Templates as a section to enable at all. To confirm, I am running Templater by SilentVoid v.1.16.0 with Obsidian v.1.0.3 on OSX v12.5.
      I was able to figure out why the additional values were not showing up in the kanban drop down. I forgot to add the "---" open and close section around the header code. I figured that was a sloppy mistake from watching this at 5am. At least I got that solved.
      If you have any tips for setting the Priority drop down values, that would be helpful. I tried to add another variable for "priority:" like this: "priority: " but that just added them to the status drop down, so I am likely not understanding how to hood it in correctly.
      Either way, awesome content. You are definitely helping me think through additional use cases for this app. Keep up the great work!

    I like the concept of the Obsidian Projects plug-in but I'm sure even you should admit it having some big drawbacks. Only the other week you were talking about non-compartmentalizing files by avoiding the folders route (unless really necessary) and suddenly, we find ourselves running projects in specific folders...suddenly making it really necessary - but in this case, only to use the plug-in. "Verward!!!!"

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, it definitely has some drawbacks. I can name those for pretty much every plugin, and community plugins are made by people for free. :) It would be a tall order to find a free plugin that doesn't have drawbacks.
      However, folders are not one of them. They are not at all necessary for Projects, which is why I like the approach better than that of Database Folder. Projects CAN use folders, but it can also use pretty much any Dataview query, so it can bring together files from any folder. I actually demonstrate this in my livestream with Marcus. Here's the timestamp for it: pulse.ly/sp9eca0sam
