I'm determined to finish the trilogy and finally read Jade War and Jade Legacy this summer. You now have me both so excited and incredibly scared!
This has convinced me to try Jade War, as I felt much like you after Jade City and wasn't sure if I wanted to continue, but the second book sounds more interesting and I haven't read a book in a while that got me emotional and I'm craving that rn - so fingers crossed!

I was super curious what you would think of the series. I read jade city in June and had to take a break before picking up jade war because it really tired me. Not sure if I'll continue but you're swinging my vote a little.
I heard Elliot Brooks on her channel read a comment about jade city that said roughly that it's a book where nothing happens to a bunch of people I don't care about 😅 and I sort of agree with that. But this vlog made me reconsider, because I am curious where all this leads to and where the characters end up. The series length is definitely intimidating too. I read much slower, it took me 10 days to complete Jade City so it is a commitment.

I've got that mushroom scratch post but it's not sturdy enough. I had to put loads of weights on the base to stop it getting pulled on top of* the cats as they pull their claws out. Honestly, it's a bit dodgy, be careful anyone thinking of using it.

I want to read this series, but like you said in the Jade City review portion early on, the sex scenes have kept me away from it because it's so uncomfortable in my opinion. Which sucks, because everything else about this series is right up my alley of interests. I guess I'll live vicariously through other readers experience then.

Bah, I dislike Hilo and the end of Jade War/beginning of Jade Legacy made me outright hate him. Because, while he cares and loves his family it’s on his terms, and that’s not real love, that’s narcissistic love. And it wasn’t until the end of Jade Legacy to remotely change my mind.
Hilo is a great example of a moral grey character.

For me it was an okay trilogy overall. I’m surprised by the average rating for the third book. The international politics didn’t keep my attention very well. I see what you mean that it doesn’t really need to be a fantasy book. It could be diamond mining/trading and not much would be affected.
*Vague spoilers for trilogy*: Hilo is probably one of my most hated characters of all time 😅 I think he’s such a piece of shit for what he does to Niko’s parents and how he treats Wen.
