Why have these Homeless never been Housed? Does Metro Nashville place Refugees & Migrants @ the top of the Housing List? Metro Nashville has not been following the State of TN Homeless Law.
No. It’s a much harder problem than that. Like the fella in the video said, many consider this their home. They refuse help. There are many options available for them. Please prove me wrong with facts. Then we can address those.
@@CreachterZ It is not their home. They should have never been allowed to live their long enough to adapt & think their home. Tent City has been in Nashville for decades & Metro should have housed & cleared decades ago-
Three years not paying rent and you haven’t saved enough money to buy a place or put a down payment for rent ? It’s ridiculous. Society is not responsible for your care and feeding .
If you don’t want to be out there, you shouldn’t be. There are plenty of community programs to help with this. If I’m wrong, please let us know. Now there are some that would prefer no help but then complain about it. These are folks with underlying issues that they may not recognize themselves. There is help for them, also, but they need to accept it. Sometimes living rough is just easier on the mind.
You are, most low income housing is dangerous, if and when it's available, some people just can't live that way. I'm still homeless from the 2021 flood, I didn't get the " flood money" that poured in. It's not easy, I had to leave TN
@@CreachterZ there isn't plenty of help, unless you wanna be packed into ghetto complexes and live that hell and that is only if you survive the years on waiting lists . Please enlighten us all on where are all of these "plenty of community programs"????????? As I live in the city of Atlanta and sadly there haven't been "plenty" of programs....Ever!! And now there are No program's AT ALL for homeless vet's, the disabled or homeless mothers and kids.....that is unless you are an immagrant, that is the demographic that is being helped. And FYI, don't talk about them going to shelters unless you have ever been to one!!! Shelters are nothing but a place to score dope and for single women to get beat, raped, and trafficed!! It's clear you are just commenting to comment and have no idea whatsoever of what you speak on, as if you did you would see how huge of a lie those four words alone in your comment was.
We are all 4 sudden expenses away from not affording our homes. Nashville needs to seriously invest in low income housing, capping rent prices, providing temporary and permanent housing. The sweeps must end.
Low income housing is not going to happen under the current building codes and with the current real estate market - there's just way too many people moving to Nashville from California (and other blue states) wanting a small mansion on a postage stamp lot. Capping rent prices has been proven elsewhere to make rentable housing harder to find, so it actually works against your stated goal. There's a church a few blocks east of the 'old tent city' camp that has filled the space around their church with 'tiny homes' for the less fortunate to live in. Nashville city government purchased a number of pod homes (portable versions of 'tiny homes') and has had them sitting in storage since they were purchased, while they sort out what to do about the pod homes not being compliant with building codes. Seems pretty obvious that government is NOT the answer to the problem but is actually part of the cause of the problem.
@@CaetlinH_3 More information on the pod homes that the city purchased: The city purchased 108 pod homes, using $1.2 million in federal grant funds to pay for them. They have been sitting in storage since at least 2021, and when a reporter asked the mayor about them a few days ago, his reply was that they were trying to sort out the issue of the pods not being up to building codes. Building codes keeps popping up as an obstruction in discussions of this sort, but few seem interested in making any changes to building codes, other than zoning changes that would allow building expensive housing at a higher density.
It will be funny as hell seeing all these housed people shit themselves if they ever end up in this situation. Only god can judge and hopefully housed people pray everyday that this never happens to them 🙏
I fear for this very thing all the time. Can happen to anyone. Obviously, we’re all different people and one thing can cause a persons life to spiral…whether it be an injury or a sickness. Most Americans can’t afford a medical emergency.
@@kevinbernatek7875 That is very true. It’s crazy that a lot of people think they’re immune or everyone else is to this kind of situation ever happening.
By the way someone should tell flubber, that being homeless is a choice, those two would rather live like that than to live in housing. They expanded their camp until it spread underneath the I-24 bridge. The state has scheduled construction work on the bridge, so the state had a choice of forcing them off of state property or letting them stay and be crushed by falling debris from the construction work. Somewhere along the way, the Nashville codes office seems to have taken notice of what was going on and determined that the original section of the camp on city property now has permanent structures that are not up to code, so they have to be demolished. If the people in the camp had kept using tents and not built permanent structures on government property, they wouldn't be having this problem.
They built their shacks under the bridge, and the state has scheduled construction work on the bridge. Should they be told to move out of an area where they have illegally built their shacks, or should they stay and have a large chunk of concrete fall on them? Why do you care so little about the safety of the homeless?
@@paulsjeeps7528 there is no systems in place to adequately house them otherwise. They have had to take their shelter into their own hands. Where else can they go?
@@CaetlinH_3 Nashville government bought portable pod homes to provide temporary shelter for the homeless. People need a work ethic and support themselves. Why should people pay more taxes to support someone not willing to help themselves?
