  • Death Wobble is the rapid oscillation of steering and suspension parts on a solid font axle such as a Jeep or heavy duty pickup truck. In this video we will aim to explain some of the lesser understood components of death wobble and hopefully give you the foot to fix your death wobble for good!

100% spot on with rotors triggering death wobble. My 85 d150 has decent shimmy from warped rotors and a worn center link. Ill be rebuilding the whole front end soon though so no big deal.

I had the same problem with my wrangler I thought it was something worse but it only happened when i hit the brakes and it scared the hell out of me cause a couple of times it was really bad and almost lost control of the jeep I dealt with it for almost 2 years by pumping the brakes and finally last fall I replaced the rotors and pads and everything is fine

Thank you man for helping with my mental problems, according to professionals in my area!!! They say that the dead-wobbel has nothing to do with brakes, and that by anticipating a possible dead-wobbel, if I turn the steering wheel slightly I can avoid the dead-wobbel!

In words you can unravel the hidden mysteries of the dead-wobbel. I have already subscribed to your channel, your knowledge deserves to be shared. I deeply believe that it took a long time to arrive at all this wisdom. The WJ community is very grateful for your efforts, I want you to know that! Thank you very much!!!

After replacing EVERYTHING on the front end of my WJ I still had a bad case of death wobble. It finally turned out to be a worn out pitman arm of all things. It was loose on the steering box splines. Something that doesn't ordinarily happen.

Epic video bro!! I’ve got an ‘84 Chevy K20. My “wobble” is DEFINITELY when I apply the brakes. But instead of “side to side” action, mine is up & down. BAD 😳😳 It’s like my truck is trying to hop to the friggin moon & back. I’m really hoping that installing new rotors helps this. That would so fantastic.

I don't know if I ever told you I work for Chrysler in Auburn hills one of janitors had death wobble. On his 2003 grand Cherokee and it ended up being a lose pitman arm. Crazy because it fell right off the steering box. We figured someone put a wrong arm on it at one time or another. Oh well any play in that steering will do that. Just thought I would share current events. Have a good one guys. Ps. Doctor death wobble is Kens car care center near Owosso Michigan. Take care

Death wobble is a typical characteristic of a solid front axle. I owned a 1964 International Harvester long-bed pickup truck, 4wd with manual locking hubs. It had death wobble, triggered by a road bump, stopped by a heavy punch on the brakes and steering wheel jerk to one side or other. Also, if mud was allowed to build on the large split-ring wheels, then death wobble. That pickup had no track bar in its design, as I recall. This was my daily driver in some of my high school years, 1969-1971.

I had a 2wd 04 WJ with a simple 2 inch level kit on it. I threw on some wrangler tires that were 33" with my 1.5" wheel spacers and got immediate death wobble. I replaced just about everything and still had it, then took off just the front wheel spacers and it was good as new. To this day I don't understand exactly why it happened like that, but I guess the axle wasn't tough enough or what. But the wheel spacers did it for me haha

I can hit a particular bump in the road coming home and get DW. Last winter when the temps dropped considerably ie. 5*F the DW went away. After the weather warmed up, the DW came back. This tells me the new Crown bushings I put in may be bad. I was thinking about replacing them with poly bushings. Thoughts?

Do other 4x4 vehicles have death wobble? If not, why is jeep so screwed up? After spending $2000 to fix and then wobbling into oncoming traffic makes me not to drive Jeeps any more. My wife won’t even ride in my 2021 JL.

Any vehicle with a solid front axle can get death wobble. Super Duty Ford trucks get it, all older vehicles, etc.. Jeeps are one of the few vehicles still producing factory vehicles with SFA's, so you really only hear about it on Jeeps anymore

    • @larryfogle3697

Death wobble is just the vibration matches the natural resonant frequency so amplitude becomes maximized.
I say people need to be conservative, minimize tire size, width and weight.
A really tight steering would resist the rotation.
Steering stabilizers are the best solution, dampen the vibration in the direction needed!
