You can pretty much do everything the Core can with FSJoin, and programming is a lot more simpler. And you can see the lightbar and outputs flash when you press preview instead of having to be on the output screen or lightbar screen. FS also sells a cable for the rear tail light harness that enables blackout and flashing of the lights without having to use OBD. And for some reason, the FS Argent and Valor seem to get brighter the further away from the vehicle you are. Whelen is bright. But FS always seems brighter. And more light heads in the bar to individually program. FS are also so much better, so much that Whelen copied them with the Alt wail and alt yelp and the Unitrol Ultra Hi-Lo. Before those were FS only tones. I love Whelen stuff. But always felt they needed a blackout strip above the light heads on the domes to keep sun from hitting the large reflectors, sun washes it out a lot. With the FS stuff, the LEDs are on top and shine down into the reflector, and the PC Board effectively blocks the sun more making a shadow in the light reflector so the light doesn’t have to compete with the sun until it hits the lens itself.
To be honest Whelen siren tones sound extremely bland and it’s overused a lot. When CHP replaced their siren with the Whelen Core it felt like it doesn’t sound like CHP anymore. But Whelen does have some impressive lighting patterns
@@CallMeAhSirHKP I wouldn't say the Whelen standard tones are overused, they've proven successful and I can regularly notice that in countries all over the world. Although I understand the point that the current standard Whelen sirens are not as fancy and unique as some Federal Signal tones. The CHP sirens were custom made by Whelen and I hope that they have their comeback one day. I wish Whelen would bring back some of their old sirens and also work on some more unique and cool sounding tones. Good thing they add siren tones to Command/ Core from time to time. I think they've reached 70 international and even country specific tones by now.
@@Rummeltobi The "custom whelen CHP tones" are/were just bootlegs of the Scientific Experimental No.7 tones. I also have major disrespect for Whelen from their bootlegging of Unitrol tones in recent years to create their "Whelen Alternate" tones.
When it comes to lighting here, Whelen takes the cake. The Tracers are so much more visible and practical for side lighting, the outer edges give you better visibility and a wider stance. Whelen tag lights are placed better vs the FS just look weird being non parallel. FS siren tones are definitely better though. When it comes to the front lights, they are equally great.
Probably two of the best in the business, both are fantastic. Always been a Whelen guy, but Federal Signal is damn impressive, would be happy with either setup.
Whelen is much brighter. The perfect moment to compare that in this video would be 3:19 vs 3:51 - the Whelen setup stresses the camera sensor much more than the FedSig lights. The entire image is tinted in red/blue/white with the Whelen setup and the lights appear larger
Federal Signal makes superior sirens to anyone else in the industry. From Smart Siren tones, to Q siren to Unitrol tones. They also offer many different styles of lightbars and are the only ones in the industry that make true LED rotating lightbars. Whelen has a simplified selection of lights and unique lighting control and flash patterns like Wecan system, dynamic mode and ability to have multiple vehicles synchronize their flash patterns on scenes.
I personally prefer the Whelen vehicle, but it may come down to a personal preference in programming in flash patterns. I just think the slide-3 on the FS build is just way too chaotic, and I've always been a fan of Whelen's action flash pattern. Also, shouldn't the pre-emp strobe be much higher up on the vehicle, so that the receiver can detect it over top of other vehicles in front of you?
Both are amazing Vehicles, But I would Drive the Federal Signal Vehicle. Things I would change will be Use FS Valor Lightbar, Use Westin Push Bar with the PIT bars, and Wing Wraps, and also add a passenger side spotlight.
How do the push bumpers compare/differ across the public safety market? Is there a best brand? Any one to stay away from due to a particular issue. Asking specifically for the new Tahoe. Thanks.
I just don't understand why people play music while they're talking in some of us have a piece of crap phones that you can barely hear as it is just saying
Where in Cali is it going? And I think every vehicle should have steady burn. The eye catches that, along with a slow/medium speed headlight flasher more than anything! Also the Cali one shouldn’t have the phaser/priority tone activated on the sweep. Only wail and yelp are authorized siren tones in Cali. Hi-lo can be used when it’s for like an evacuation or something but per Cali Vehicle Code only wail and yelp and even the air horn isn’t supposed to interrupt the tones since they don’t classify that as a siren either. Cali is lame. No fun tones. Nothing like the Ultra Hi-Lo Unitrol sound though. Every unit I have been issued I changed the lighting on, and out steady burn red and blue on. I was in Nevada lol. But originally from Cali and back here now. In two I would change everything so I would only have steady burn red and blue and one flashing red and blue to the front only on position 2. Nevada required a flashing red, but I didn’t want everything flashing at night when stopped. Also had position one and two have minimal lighting to the rear.
The lighting packages are getting out of control. They are blinding and obnoxious so that speak. I am great full that pursuit mode gets shut off now when they are at the scene or have someone pulled over.
I definitely prefer Whelen. Been programming Whelen Command & Core for years and I just love that system and everything you can do with it.

If you do the howler siren do you have to have a standard siren speaker or does the howler do both tones?

@@elianaramirez4051 it’s the truth. Some of Whelen tones are terrible, especially the alternative Wail

I gotta say, I was very impressed with the FS build. The ion stick looks so much better then the Whelen outer edges IMO. Great video as always!
Whelen cool
in my day all there was, was a little red light than spun around
Interesting.. Federal seemed brighter and I liked it more... quite the surprise !

great video! Please do more of these rather than the shorts.
Great job you guys i would not have changed a thing at all because of corse that would not role that way at all
What mount did you use to mount the federal signal lights on the rocker? Or did you mount them higher up?
Toss up. Both are really good
I still think the lights should have the ability to sync up with whatever is playing on the in vehicle stereo
Any way to sync both the pathfinder with the core v2v?
What program do you use to program the flash pattern and steady burn?
Whelen's got some cool emergency lighting, but for sirens (and lighting, in general), I'll always side with Federal Signal.
it light my rom up lol
