  • We are with the bad boy of shooting, Ben Husthwaite who looks at how to take a looping bird. Ben breaks down the shot, the posture you need and how to take the shot. Ben also goes into the mentality he has before and between a stand and how it will help a shooter's composure once the gun is in the shoulder.

What an extraordinarily gifted communicator Ben is. I have learned so much from his brilliant videos.

THE BEST COACHING I HAVE EVER WATCHED, HE CALCULATES TO THE SMALLEST DETAIL AND EXPLAINS IT SO WELL TO THE STUDENT. 👍

I've seen many professional coaches and Ben seems to explain the mechanics of shooting extremely well with the most complete explanations of the procedures and why. Outstanding.

Really fine work. Ben explains the subject very clearly, demonstrates well using his students, and the spacing of demonstrations followed immediately by the Shotkam video of the shot to reinforce the lesson is brilliant. I really appreciate these videos, they are playing an important role in my development as a Sporting Clays shooter in the US. Combining the videos with some in-person instruction, solo practice, and then practice shooting with friends is steadily bringing my game along. Well done, Ben!

Greeting from across the pond. Shooting Loopers, Curling or Chandelles, you shoot them like a crosser (at least that is what I was taught). So left to right (don't loop - straight line) shoot it at the 3 o'clock position (or a bit above it like a crosser). Same idea going right to left (but this time you are shooting them at the 9 o'clock position (or a bit above it)...Always keeping in mind the speed of the bird. Remember some clay birds loop more than others depending on the presentation. Like in this example with Ben it is a shorter loop since it looks like looping rabbit.

I'm actually not a big fan of Ben's antics in general, but this was an excellent video. To the point, no 'magic', no 'I'll change your style' etc etc, just precise, concise information. thanks!

Great video. Much appreciated. What about a video on the long range chandelle? You know the one, it goes way way up high while drifting to the left or right. I've shot them at 40, 50, even 60 yards in FITASC. Everyone says they're easier to break at the top, but your timing has to be perfect as the target is in the process of changing direction. I see most of them broken on the way down.

To get more people involved on a truly BIG scale the NSCA needs to develop a handicap system like golf. That way I can have a competitive game against anyone of differing skill levels and give or receive birds -get a net score and have a fair competition. Until them it will remain a esoteric niche sport.

Excellent coaching. It looks like she went up for the bird she missed and tried to come down on it.

My instructor told me to try shooting the pair the other way round. I loaded up. I turned round and everyone dropped to the floor and they took the gun off me.

In a video on his channel he talks about not cutting across the line on a looper due to the reliance on your timing being bang on, if it isn't, you can miss.....so i am not sure what to do. Thoughts?

@@benhusthwaite9884 Ah right, cheers. Seems I was confused when posting the comment. I think I was referring to the quartering away chandelle video on here where you say don't go straight across the top. Your videos as a fairly new shooter (7 months now) have been a huge help, so cheers for that too.

Brain does the thinking, outside the cage. Technique and gut take over, inside the cage.

When you shooting a bird it doesn't fly like a clay.

But where is the straight line? If you use this method you only have one place to hit it, more like target shooting for me.

Do those Glasses actually help? Do they just pick up the clay, or can you also wear them for Pigeons? ( Dove, Quail and Duck in my case USA!)

    • @troytempestuk99

I'd Personally recommend them (However they are quiet steep!) They give contrast between what your shooting and the sky, especially colourful clays and light coloured birds
